Champions review Rating 3.4/5 Value- 4 $50 for 18 holes on a Friday morning/afternoon. Experience- 3 Pace was slow for a Friday morning/afternoon. We had a group go around us and the 3some that was playing in front of us because they were playing so slow. Condition-3 grounds under repair on two holes. Some of the tee boxes were in need of some work. Greens were well maintained but not perfect. Some bunkers had small rocks in them. Facilities/Amenities-4 Practice range, chipping/ putting green Newer clubhouse with an outdoor patio And a small bar, minimal food and snacks. Older carts Challenge of course-3 Overall Play-Tough course There were 2 holes that I felt were unnecessarily difficult with the design. A par 3 that set upon a hill with a valley below and trees surrounding it. A 4 that could've easily been a par 5. Majority of the holes were doglegs so you really don't need to play driver off tee. Challenge came from hazards mainly all the trees. In depth review This course is one six public courses in Columbus. As someone from Northeast Ohio, Summit county specifically, I've realized just how spoiled we are with quality public courses. However, I will say, Champions gives some of the best courses in our area a run for their money. This course offers some significantly challenging holes while complementing the difficulty with some truly stunning views. While this course didn't have much water there were a fair amount of trees and sand bunkers. Most of the courses played on downhill slopes. There were also several doglegs that presented opportunities to go off the tee with clubs other than driver. On course play alone I would recommend champions but they also come equipped with a newly renovated clubhouse, patio, driving range, and chipping and putting green. The clubhouse staff were cordial but not overlay friendly. Thea starter gave great tips and explanations for the cart path rules. Recommendations to the course staff: The only issue I had with the course was that they had 2 holes with grounds under repair that took up about 30 yards of the fairway. But they did provide signs that let you know how far to get to that area and how far to clear. My issue was that they just hosted the USGA Junior tournament and that had to be an issue for those players.Also, I don't think that any course should be charging the full amount while there's major repairs going on. If I don't get the full experience then there should be some sort of discount. That's just my humble opinion. This is more common practice at courses in northeast Ohio. Overall: I would go back to see the course fully repaired and hope there isn't a ton wind. read more

Took over 5 hours to play the round. The course doesn't enforce slow play at all. Truly unbelievable how bad this was. Will never be back.

THE RANGER IS RUDE ASF AND COURSE WAY OVERBOOKED. AND THE RANGE AND PUTTING GREENS ARE CLOSED WITH NO NOTICE POSTED ONLINE.Course is beautiful. But the ranger was a complete ***hole. We paid and were driving to the first hole, gave him our names and everything. Then, he presses EACH one of us to "show a receipt." None of us even got receipts from the person in the shop. He literally tried making us show our bank statement where the money was paid. Like how do you think we got the golf carts? Just extremely rude. Course is also WAYY Overbooked. They book tee times 6 mins apart so you are always gonna be waiting on people and there will always be people right behind you. One person behind me even yelled "just throw one down" when I tried looking for my ball in the rough, knowing we were gonna have to wait on the next hole anyways. I have been a member of three private golf courses in Columbus. make no mistake, this layout and design is the equal of some of finest golf courses in central Ohio. however, it is in a bad neighborhood, and is a municipal golf course which means it doesn't have the money to keep in tip top shape like a private course. Dog legs, elevation changes, false fronts, some small greens....really good test and fun to play. read more

The course itself is okay. The greens are in rough condition. Paid $50 for the tee time which isn't too bad but rental clubs are $45 and those are in terrible condition. Like others have mentioned, the course is way overbooked. There was a group of 5 in front of us and 4 of them were walkers, so once they teed off one one of the holes we just decided to skip that hole and they ended up calling the Marshall on us who came and chewed us out for not asking permission and keeping order of play. The course it's self is great, called before hand and set a tee time and a club rental showed up and they had given the set out already so I was stuck with some thrown together clubs and a child's putter, I wasn't asked to pay for the rental but the time and money spent on the Uber is a bit disappointing especially when your not able to rent nice equipment, either way still a great course just be clear if you rent that they hold them for you read more

Course was in fantastic shape and the greens were fast, but the ball would stick on approach. There were a couple of questionable tee boxes, but can easily be overlooked with the great condition of the fairways and greens. Overall it was a tight course and not very forgiving. It would be 5-Stars if the price wasn't the same as somewhere like Bent Tree, and we were told there was a cart girl driving around with drinks and snacks, but that was a lie. The clubhouse snack spot didn't even open until 10:30AM. read more

Very unfriendly staff. Through a mix-up, we accidentally paid for 4 players when we only had a group of three. When we tried to get refunded for the additional player, the gentlemen refused and told us that it was "against the rules". Not sure what rule involves making people pay extra when it was his fault, but it doesn't seem right. Besides that, the course can't sell beer, the greens are not well kept, and some of the tee boxes are literally just hitting out of the rough. Not sure what I expected from a municipal course but this was a bad experience. read more

I hadn't played Champions in a couple years, and was VERY impressed with it's condition. Kudos to the greens staff for the amazing transformation. It has always been a great layout, but now the conditions of the greens match the quality of the design. Highly recommend you check it out. read more

Champions stands out in the best possible ways among the golf courses owned by the city of Columbus. In this part of town, you may not expect a course packed with mature trees, steep hills and holes with interesting layouts, but that's what you get. A creek comes into play several times, and the ever-present trees will make you pay for any shot that's not arrow-straight. Some of the greens have ridiculous slopes. It's clear this was built as an elite private course. I'm a once-a-year golfer, so I'm probably not the best to judge the condition of the course, but it looked pristine to me. Champions also has a reputation for being one of the toughest courses in the city, and I can vouch for that. I always top 100 anyway, but I didn't even bother to tally up my score here after losing about seven balls in the woods. The only possible issue is that it's a little more costly to play here than you might expect at a city course. But once you see it, you'll understand why. read more

Lets be honest here we mostly choose these city tracks for there convent locations and relatively cheap green fees and not quality. But don't let the Champions Course fool you. The Champions is an absolute gem.!!! Designed by the great Robert Trent Jones Sr. The course is nestled tightly into towering hard woods and old white pines. Mr. Jones had his hand on designing such greats as Augusta National, Heseltine and Oakland Hills South course. And when I played this track I really could see that he had high expectations for the Champions. It has large dog legs, long score-able par 4's and very deceiving par 3's. By length this course is short if lengthened it could really make you work for every shot. Course conditions exceeded all my expectations, nicely level tee boxes, lush greens, and manicured greens. By far one of the best city golf courses I have ever played. read more

If you want to experience the "lowest" standards of customer service in any golf course, then you should talk to "William" at Champions Golf Course. Beware this extremely rude, nasty, and apathetic front desk person. We booked 4 tee times at Champions, however 20 people signed up (on our internal group message) to play. We called and talked to the head pro, who agreed to let all 20 of us play as the tee times are set fairly far apart. Due to a miscommunication, the pro-shop was not made aware of this - no fault of the pro-shop so far. When we, my son and I, showed up to pay, William, the guy at the pro-shop said that our tee times were fully booked and we could not pay or play. We went back to the rest of the group who were at the tee box, to find out what had happened. The starter called the pro-shop and was told to check all the receipts. The starter counted "18 receipts". So, 18 people had already paid William for 4 tee times. The starter agreed that since 18 had paid, the last 2 should also be allowed to pay and join the last group. We went back to the pro-shop to explain this to William. But this is what we got from him. "If you have a receipt, you play. Otherwise, I am not hearing anything from you, leave the club house". BTW, the last 2 guys out of 18 played as a two-some. Go Figure!! Is this what the golf courses are coming down to? Is this the treatment we should be prepared for because the staff had a miscommunication. The way we were treated at the hands of this person at Champions Golf Course was nothing more than street bums being thrown out. read more

Golf course is ok. My opinion People answering the phone & some staff are a problem. Called Thursday', July 16 for a July 18 teetime & find out if new clubhouse is open (have checked every other week). Told $39 at 2:45 for our foursome & talked about how the new clubhouse was really nice. Arrived at 2:10. Headed to the new clubhouse & someone said need to go to the old facility. Went into the old pro shop told the new Clubhouse does not open until Mon. was charged $42 Then was told only refreshments available was warm water bottles. Chose a cart from the ones available. Scorecard had names on it & paid receipts. Obviously had not been cleaned. We cleaned our cart. Walked back into the Pro shop to go to the bathroom & get a towel wet. Three people standing together behind the counter area. Rude statement "there's a bucket of water out at the 1st tee.". Then asked if I could have a handicap flag. Response "Do you really need it?" * (I am still recovering from foot & ankle surgery & I have arthritis.) Yes I do. Was told carts are not to be driven on the fairway only the rough. Unbelievable to be told new clubhouse open, no ice or cold beverage when there is sweltering heat and overcharged. Later in the day found out the other two in our foursome were charged $10 more then we paid. Later a man working there said to me he was sorry & offered me a warm bottle of water. Won't be playing there again too many other courses that care and respect golfers. read more

This used to be one of my favorite golf courses but their weekend prices have gotten outrageous. Its a cool golf course but its usually in mediocre shape at best. The female pro who works there is one of the most unfriendly people I have ever encountered in customer service. If you are going to play a Columbus City course play Turnberry. It is always in much better shape, every staff member I have ever encountered is extremely friendly and accommodating and its much cheaper. read more

Definitely agree with the previous 2 reviewers. This place is the nicest municipal course in Columbus. While not situated in the nicest part of town, the course is quite beautiful and the views nice. i think you can see the easton town center off #15 if i'm not mistaken. The course is a bit narrower than what an average player would hope and mature trees are a plenty. Some of the greens are really tricky and sloped as well. I walked this course and enjoyed it very much as each tee box was just a short walk away from the previous green. Definitely walkable and nice (unlike some other courses, like Safari where you pretty much have to get a cart). Definitely will be back! read more

The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because it is a beautiful course. With that being said, apparently you can't golf with groups bigger than 4. We had 5 people, set a tee time for the exact same time, and checked out at the front desk at the exact same time. No one told us you can't golf in groups of 5 until after the first hole when some "volunteer" approached us and was completely rude and said we can't golf in groups of 5. The old woman really needs to work on her people skills a bit. Where I come from, you ask nicely. Not be a complete jerk to 5 people who just paid $27 to golf 9 holes. read more

Played this course twice while visiting my son in Columbus. The course itself is great, beautiful layout with elevation changes in better than average condition. If I lived in the area I would play here on a regular basis, except for the people... Staff was rude, uncaring at best. In the pro shop I ask if they could tell me a bit about the course since I had never been here before. I was told "putting green is over there, range is beyond it and #1 is behind me". Hardly inside information, and delivered without looking up from his counter...Fast forward to the turn. Stopped in the snack bar for a drink. Asked the guy watching World Cup for a Gatorade, his reply "there on the counter, leave the money by the register". Again could not look up and barely acknowledged my existence...Playing as a single, I asked a foursome if I could play through, their reply "we'll see". I was floored. When they let me through on the next hole, one guy commented "we don't give a shit about singles around here"...Go there for the course, its well worth it. But be wary of the people. read more

Go somewhere else. Airport, Raymond, anywhere really. First off the price was $50 which high for how poor the course was. The staff is led by an older woman who is simply rude to the customers. Honestly the worst representative I have ever seen at a golf course. The tee times were all stacked up, we had to wait for carts to be filled up, and the course was in terrible shape.
