My boyfriend and I are beginning golfers, and this definitely was not a friendly welcome into the sport. This was our first time golfing here. First, they didn't tell us that we were put with two other people. Second, we were wanting to play back 9 -- the other courses we've been to let's us choose -- and we got yelled at for starting on 10 rather than 1. Fair, but then we got yelled at again for not teeing off on hole 1 at the right time. Obviously that's because we teed off on hold 10 at the correct time. The staff was not very friendly or helpful. Just spent time yelling at us. Communication is poor and staff was not great. I do not recommend, especially if you're new to the sport. There are other courses who are more welcoming and will help with any questions you may have and will redirect you without totally ruining your experience there. read more

Lets start with the fact that while Ive been golfing for 14 years, Ive never golfed in a league, and usually make it out no less than 4-5 times a year. Im not Tiger Woods, and will not rate a course as if I was. I suggest checking it out for yourself. The cost Raymond is fair, and the the quality is just par at best. Nothing to get excited about in terms of its greens, fairways, and scenery as they are just average. They have sand traps, par 3's, 4's, 5's, doglegs slight elevation, and some trees. The carts run fine, the people that work there are friendly enough. I recently was rained out on an 18, we made it to hole 10 before the wind/rain kicked in. They issued us a raincheck for a weekday nine just as they should have. While I normally enjoy a standard clubhouse food setting, they do have Schmidts Branded food on site (for non locals, thats an actual restaurant in German Village here in Columbus, so check it out). They $5-$7 hot dogs, brats, and knockwurst, but they are quality, so bring a few extra dollars. They sell beer, but no liquor. Id prefer to give it 3.5 stars, but 3 is fair and 4 is too much. read more

I really like this course, for a public course especially. But it boggles my mind when I go there to play 9 holes and the rude older lady tells me I have to pay for 18 holes because thats what Wilson road GC is for (9 holes). Seriously, the city isnt that dense or in the black that when there are only 8 cars in the parking lot and I want to spend money on 9 holes you'll turn me away...?!!! Luckily RMGC isn't the only course in town so not only do you lose out here you also lose out at WR GC because I choose to play 9 at Thornapple or anywhere but here. BLOWS ME AWAY!!! read more

Raymond is one of the main public courses in Columbus, and it is not a exactly a well kept secret. There are all sorts of golfers out there. More than once I have been stuck behind the guy trying to teach his girlfriend how to golf. I have also had two old dudes roll up behind me looking and hitting like they should be on the Sr.PGA tour. Old man BALLERS NO ONE knows how to repair a ball mark here (frankly I'm surprised that many golfers here hit the ball well enough to leave a mark on the green), but this is true of almost any C-bus public course. It is not that long, not that great, not that bad either though. If given the option play the front 9, which starts out a little boring but gets better after the first three holes. OH... leagues. If you are like me and like to save a buck by playing during the week be sure to call first. The league players here are terribly slow and will ruin your round if you get stuck behind them. Make sure to call first or do early afternoon, if possible. read more

They really need to fire the old lady who keeps getting this course terrible reviews. She is unnecessarily rude over the phone (and in person) and just doesn't really know anything about the golden rule, "treat others the way you want to be treated". A great example is I just called and asked to book a tee time to which she responded "good for you" Just feel there should be a base level of respect with customers, you don't need to treat them like kings, but you should treat others with respect. Can't believe I actually have to type this out. That lady has been very rude on multiple occasions and it appears you can't go there without being blessed by her rude gravitational pull. Love this course but I think this will be my last trip there until something changes. read more

Raymond is one of my favorite courses to play. I'm no golf pro (I can shoot well-over 100 on 18 with great ease!) and I'm not a golf snob (I've been known to sneak a beer or two onto the course). That being said, Raymond Memorial is a pretty heavily trafficked course. Keeping this in mind, they keep the course in great shape. The retired fellas who work as the starters on crowded days are fantastic to chat with. This isn't a stuck-up country club, it's a place for every day people to play average (or worse) golf. I've been playing here about 10 years. I don't find the conditions as bad as many of the reviewers here so far. Much of what has been said can be said of any public course in Columbus. Golf is popular in Columbus and Tiger has made that worse so weekend rounds around here mean waiting, unless you know the good public urban courses. I actually can't believe how not helpful these people are I left some thing in the golf cart when I played and I've tried to call them back every day this week and every time I get to somebody and talk to them and they said they're the only person on the course and can't go check for me so I'm gonna have to drive an hour and go and check because nobody will step outside the clubhouse to go and check. I tried to nicely ask if they'd check and their excuse was that they fired everyone and do not have enough help. When I finally just said "can you please just take 5 min to go look?", the lady's response was "we will do our best, bye" and legitimately hung up on me. Not a big review guy, but wow. read more

I went to Raymond Memorial to enjoy a Sunday morning and afternoon with my friend, and it became something we regretted doing! Play was so slow that we were able to keep up with the cart in front of us.... While we were walking.... This also led to us being approached by someone on the course complaining about us slowing the course down, and when we explained the situation, he did not even acknowledge what I said! We also weren't informed while calling for a tee time that it was going to cost us $31 each to play 9 holes on foot, because they charged the same flat rate for 9 and 18 on weekends... Worse public course so far I have played in Columbus this far! 1st they didn't advise us they air raided the greens front and back! Horrible putting. 2nd the put the plugs from the air raided geese in the middle of the fairways! And 3rd they still charged $41.00.. very bad experience won't catch me golfing there again! I played this course the saturday morning after the fourth of July and there was no-one on the course. It was great. I'm assuming its usually pretty busy, but that was a great first impression for me. Also, for a public, city golf course, I thought the condition was amazing. For a city course I expected tee boxes to look like the rough and the greens to look like the fairways, but was pleasantly surprised. Some of the fairways were the best condition I've ever seen. I highly recommend this course. The older woman at the desk in the pro shop could use a new personality, but otherwise its a great course. Also, very high handicap friendly. This is a great course....BUT...beware of hole 15 where there is an obvious (known to the workers) hornets nest to the right of the green. I was attacked viciously by an in-ground nest of a very aggressive swarm of hornets. When we made our way to the club house, the worker said...'oh yeah...I was just out there'. Seriously..you can't stay there to warn your patrons about this potentially dangerous situation? No concern for me as I was clearly traumatized and affected by over 20 stings. After a few hours in the ER getting meds to reduce the swelling, I'm sure I'll be okay physically. Thankfully I am not allergic. All I can say is do your job, mark the course if you know of a potential risk to someone. read more

Do not expect a quick round. The (slow) pace of play is not an issue with the management here. We (single digit hcp'rs) were put behind two beginners who rarely took less than 10 shots per hole. 5+ hour round for an average course. Sand in bunkers so deep and soft every ball plugged deep and your feet sank as well. Greens in decent shape but not receptive to my good wedge play. This is not the US Open. Cheap touches all around. Spray painted and stenciled signs from long ago make this place look as cheap as the...well... Nothing was really cheap. $40 to play (obscene for the quality and lack of pace regulation). $6 bratwurst (paying for Schmidt's name). Nice clubhouse but apparently all of the profits going toward that. You know you are in for a treat when the pro shop mngr tells a patron on the phone not to expect a round under 5 hours. Ignore the problem = I will not return. No full range, irons only. Starter told us this is top five public courses in Ohio (perhaps in 1962). Not even top five public in Franklin County. Three gimmick 90-degree doglegs make this course lose any cred as a RTJ Sr design gem. Will not be back and I encourage the better golfer to avoid. read more

It's a great public course with reasonable prices, so it's hard to beat that. As someone who grew up in the south, this is the best combination of price and quality out of a muni course that I've seen. It's not perfect and the slow play there can be infuriating on days when it's packed, but I've never had a bad time there. read more

do not play here!!! after reading other reaviews on google sounds like its not the first time this has happened. my brothers car and 2 others broken into over the weekend. our car and the truck had windows busted in and my friends car got his lock picked. stole anything they could find. the course has security cameras but they "weren't working." it was middle of the day, course was packed, plenty of people around but no one saw/heard anything... read more

I live within walking distance of this course (as well as Wilson, the par 3 next door) so I usually play there. The layout is not too bad, but no water or hills, fairly flat. Quite a few mature trees but not like a forest or anything. Greens are fairly large and smooth but as the other reviewer said no one knows how to fix a ball mark (or bothers). 'Sand' traps suck, just dirt pits, either hardpan or mud after a rain. Forget playing on the weekend if you don't want a six hour round, no rangers and players seem to stand around and watch each other hit. Driving range is so small you can't hit past 150 yards without hitting into the course, no woods allowed there. And the managing 'pros' are arrogant and very rude, not nice people (think BMV workers), the head pro told me she only makes her money on the leagues so casual players are unimportant to her, too bad for you. So it's not a goat run but I've certainly played nicer and friendlier public courses. read more
