Now I don't know if it's very expensive to run the train back and forth along maybe a 1km span slowly for an hr or what. The kids got confused and I genuinely thought they'd forgotten someone and had to go back to the station until it continued past and went back and forth in an industrial area and past the same houses and condos numerous times. I really expected we'd go to another destination one way for 20-30 mins for a drop off somewhere magical and come back an hr or so later. Even if that wasn't the case, just go in one direction for 20 mins, then come back, make the trip worthwhile! The train itself is nice, interesting to see the Rocky mountaineer up close. Christmas decor was very minimal, a string of lights on each end and the pre packaged cookie came in the last 10 mins of the "journey". The cast of characters that came through was fun for the kids. No Santa on our train. And Christmas music made it festive. The museum that serves as the "North Pole" was decked out nicely for what it was and I appreciate the effort from what I can assume was mostly volunteer run and put together. It did remind me very much of what they would do at a place like the Roundhouse community center though... Had I known how it would be for the price we paid, I think we would have allocated that hefty sum to another set of activities around Vancouver. Even my 7 year old was saying 'look we're just back at the same station, we didn't go anywhere!'. I'm sure on a regular museum day it's a nice place. But seriously, for the amount of money we were charged, quite disappointed overall. Been there, done that. It was a decent experience for the children overall but there's so many other things that kind of $$ could be spent on. Know what you're buying and maybe you won't have the expectations we did.

As a Disney fan, the underground train ride through the mine had me feeling like I was about to…read morebreak into "Heigh-Ho" at any moment. The train ride was by far the coolest part of the experience. Going deep into the mountain and seeing the tunnels where people actually worked was honestly way more interesting than I expected. Photos really don't do it justice because a lot of what makes it so memorable is the atmosphere. It's dark, damp, a little eerie, and also incredibly fascinating. I also tried the gold panning which was surprisingly addictive. Unfortunately my luck was absolutely terrible. Every time I thought I had found something exciting it ended up being fool's gold. The museum itself is very well done and there are lots of interactive exhibits. The giant mill building is impressive. You can see it from the highway but standing inside it really puts into perspective how massive the operation once was. I wasn't expecting to spend as much time here as I did. Overall, if you're driving the Sea to Sky and debating whether to stop; do it.

The entire campus is so interesting. We bought our tickets for the tour and then stepped into the theater to watch a short film and then explored the museum, the shop and then it was time to head up the hill to start your tour. We have done other mine tours and this was by far the best. We grabbed our hard hats, met our tour guides Mike and Connor and found our seats in the mine car. We traveled into one of the mine tunnels about 6 minutes in until the end, while learning about the mine along the way. Once the mine train came to a stop, we stepped out into the tunnel and Mike proceeded to give history of the mine and then demonstrate different types of mining equipment over the years and how tools somewhat evolved. Then we walked from one tunnel to the next and learned about the dynamite that was set and how the Muckers cleaned out the debris from the tunnels with a demonstration of the equipment used. We then walked back down the hill to the huge processing building that stands tall over the valley, the sound and built into the mountain. We explored a bit, Mike and Connor answered questions and talked about the processing of the ore. Then it was time to sit and watch the show "Boom" that explained every step of the processing and it was fantastic. We highly recommend this experience if you ever find yourself on the Sea to Sky Highway. Just a tip, I didn't see an elevator to get passengers to the top to join the ride into the mine shaft, and after the mine portion of the tour, you walk down a gravel hill to get to the processing building. So if you are with someone who has challenges walking, climbing stairs and hills and walking downhill, I don't recommend the mine shaft portion of the tour. You can join in on the multi-sensory "Boom" show much easier.

I don't even know how to define it,.. it is a work of art in itself as it is covered in interesting projects including a big wall of plaster faces of people that live nearby. I guess I'd say it is an art gallery with a limited menu soup counter, but also serves as a community gathering space for live events. Much of it is carved out of wood and it always reminds me of a hall as described in Beowulf. It is worth coming here for a look at the building and art within (which is mostly photography of eagles and other wildlife). The food is extremely limited but very good. The menu includes "homemade soups and bread, filled croissants, veggies & dip, homemede Danish pastry, teas & espresso coffees, wine & beer." that is literally the extent of it. We had borscht and the salmon soup and loved both, the bread was tasty! I'd like to try to check out a live performance here at some point, I bet the room would sound great.

Some really beautiful items. Granted, it is not a fancy gallery, and a bit run-down. But the artwork is wonderful. The highlight for me were several carvings by Eddie Apodaca, a member of the Coast Salish Nation who comes from a family of carvers. He was trained by Jacob Lewis and Earl Lewis, and has clearly come into his own based on the intricacies and detail level of his work. The amazing thing about this gallery is the pricing - they have a very wide variety of custom pieces at prices that are well below what you would find in similar galleries in the Vancouver area that perhaps have fancier carpeting or background music playing instead of a TV blasting on some bad movie. I got an opportunity to try out pottery, ariel silks and various forms of breath work and acro yoga for the first time! Their workshops on health and nutrition, zero-waste cooking tips and animal rights activism were extremely well structured and put together. I was looking forward to the zero-waste, vegan and the wellness aspects of the festival and they didn't disappoint. I personally am not big on dancing, but the DJ selection they had on each of the nights were absolutely unbelievable! So good that even I found myself dancing till late! The volunteers and organizers were extremely friendly and made sure everything was well looked after. The tent sites and facilities were really clean and very taken care of for all three days I was there. There were many food options from burgers to grain bowls to breakfast and desserts which were reasonably priced (unlike some of the other events I've attended). The kombucha, cold coffee and beers were very refreshing as well. This was the first festival I participate in and it truly was an unforgettable experience! I had made last-minute plan to drive down from Seattle for this, and it was totally worth it! Really looking forward to attending this every opportunity I get!

We arrived on Sunday at noon to the site and there was no food, except an table selling samosas, a "Main Stage" that looked like a bunch of kids propped up some sticks and an old blanket and put a board under in and called it a day, and a small group of maybe a dozen people just sitting. I overheard some patrons sitting behind me said they were doing that. Came over, watched the play to support their friend who was performing, then last ferry back after catching up. While the exterior of the building didn't look grand or fancy, the interior was obviously renovated. No drinks except water allowed inside the auditorium. Small snacks from local bakery and drinks were available for purchase at the foyer. Pictures of long ago performing artists dotted the hallway. The washrooms were clean and updated. I loved the magnetic clasp for the doors. Only paper towels were allowed to be thrown into the bin as they did not have any garbage disposals handling. The play I watched was hilarious and was originally performed in New Westminster. Quite serendipitous as I used to live there and I could identify with the places and things mentioned in the play which was also set in New West. The only drawback was the seating arrangement. The rows of seats were exactly behind each other which meant the view was blocked if someone tall was sitting in front of you. It would be better if the rows of seats placed a bit off so the audience could view through the gap between each seat. I saw at the end of the aisle so I had to crane my neck to watch parts of the performance.
