I stopped into Chaparral while on a brief trip to Lockhart, and what I didn't expect was a huge 5K and 10K to be happening at the same time I was in town. A ton of the runners and spectators needed a little coffee fix after the race, so Chaparral had a huge rush while I was in town. This created a long line and a long back order of drinks. Instead of complaining about how long it took and OH MY GOSH HOW DARE THEY MAKE ME WAIT, I have to give them credit. Though the 3 people working were slammed, they were churning out orders quickly and efficiently, fighting off the rush one drink at a time. It took about 20ish minutes to get my coffee, but after getting my hot lavender latte with oat milk, it was worth the wait. It was a very quality cup, and it was just what I needed to start my day. The shop is super narrow, but super cute and stylish. The roadrunner LED on the wall really added to the shop's character. Next time I'm in Lockhart, I'll go out of my way to get back to Chaparral. My friend wanted to come visit this cantina this past weekend, so on Saturday we came out here for some drinks. It was a nice evening in Lockhart so we went for a stroll before coming here. As we were walking in, we appreciated the artwork on the exterior of the place. Nice vibe inside also, very southwest. You're supposed to order at the bar, there are no servers taking orders from your table but the owner was walking by and she took our order anyway. We ordered a couple of drinks, some dips, mini tacos, and quesadilla. I really liked my first drink, which was the tamarind margarita. The avo crema and queso they had were really good too! We really love this little coffee shop. Their coffee quality is high whether it's a straight up drip or a fancy espresso drink. We pop into Lockhart from Austin from time to time, and we never skip a visit here. The staff is busy, but friendly. Such a cute little spot!! In Lockhart! I was looking for a bite to eat on the way back from camping. I stopped in on a Sunday at 3pm. I was welcomed kindly by the gentleman behind the counter. I asked if he had anything he could fix for a vegan. He promptly said yes. I had a black bean and rice bowl with mushrooms. Wow, so flavorful, fresh and delicious! I just picked up a sandwich. It was $8 for a regular size slice of bread egg sandwich. "Side of fruit" was one piece of cantaloupe. I get that these places are notorious for being over priced, but I feel like this is still a bit much. The last place in the same building went out of business for being so overpriced, I don't see this establishment having a different result. This place has become not very consistent with the food and coffee. The food they have started cutting corners to save money, it gets bad to the point all the ingredients that used to be locally sourced are now store bought, the quantity of what they serve seems to be less and less most days I go here while still charging the same amount. Fair warning they do not have prices listed on the menu anymore like they used too. I stopped by at CC on our way to south padre, I liked it so much so had to stop by while coming back, it was Sunday late afternoon, so there weren't much people, so was able to order as soon I stepped in, ordered drip, but it was barely warm, so I let the girl behind the counter know about it, he took my cup and realized it was barely warm, so she made a fresh pot, and it was so so good, I think I liked there drip even more than the cappuccino, such a lovely place with friendly service and positive vibes with solid coffee options, what more you can ask for:)) read more

Dropped by to pick up coffee (and use the bathroom) while taking a walk around downtown Lockhart. It's right on the square across from the beautiful courthouse. They have a reasonable amount of indoor and outdoor seating, given the small footprint they have. It's also on the more hipster/modern side of things when it comes to coffee shops - nice to have that option in a relatively rural town! Chaparral is an amazing little coffee shop situated just in front of the (very cute and dollhouse-like) Caldwell County Courthouse in Lockhart, the so-called BBQ capital of Texas. It stands among the best coffee shops I've ever had the pleasure to visit, serving perfect espresso drinks, hot and cold, and the best Iced Mexican Mocha Latte I've ever tasted in my life. In fact, I'd go as far as admitting that Chaparral is, in my opinion, THE best coffee shop in the larger Austin metropolitan area, dethroning all other coffee shops in a 60 miles radius thanks to its consistency, impeccable service, delectable locally sourced pastries, and delicious blends. On Monday evenings, the coffee shops transforms into a sort of bar, serving alcoholic drinks and featuring local DJs and their music. I highly recommend you stop by Chaparral if you ever happen to be driving by Lockhart. You won't regret it and you'll also get to enjoy the view of the nearby town square as a bonus. read more

We stopped here on Saturday morning for some coffees. It's a cute little spot on the main square, but we'd recommend getting drinks only instead of food (which was unequivocally terrible). The cold brews are good and bless their hearts for using crushed ice. Our daughter got a hot chocolate and a coffee cake, which tasted like saw shavings it was so completely dried out and unappetizing. The real fright was the kolache though: a deflated bun with HALF a sliced and bizarrely chewy sausage in it. It was the absolute worst one that we have ever had. Just: Yikes. I've gone before to order inside the store and as stated in my previous review, staff seemed more interested in socializing than making my order in a timely manner. The favor driver I ordered from also experienced the same slowness. However today I ordered like I usually do and found a hair in my egg. This is why you need hair nets and beard nets.
