Honestly not the best but not the worst experience. Food was not that great, for a bakery there's very little baked good options. There was hardly anyone in there eating, & there seemed to only be 2 staff members on the floor plus whoever was in the kitchen. Small menu, but they did have some sides you could swap. The inside feels like you're eating inside of an antique store or an old school building, if you like that vibe. We probably won't be returning, there wasnt really anything that wowed us here. They had soo many good looking pies, cookies, and cakes to choose from. I could have honestly purchased like 10 different items. However the settled on 3. Apple Pie: Nice crust and the filling had the right amount of sweetness. It was not overpowering sugar taste and let the apples show through. Chocolate Cream pie: the whipped topping was very good. The chocolate filling was good not great. The crust was a little tough. In general it was a good slice of pie, but I have had better. Lemon Bar: nice slice of lemon bar with the right amount of sweetness to sour. if you like lemon deserts I would give it a try. Work had me down in the area and decided to try the Red Barn Bakery for lunch. They do have more than just baked good. Went with the fried chicken tender plate and it did not disappoint. Clearly freshly hand breaded and fried just right it was a great lunch. Came with fries, Texas toast, and good serving of gravy for all of it. Service was great, very attentive but not over the top. Will 100% be back and would recommend if you're in the area and looking to support a local option rather than driving to San Marcos for fast food. read more

Don't look for a red barn because it ain't red but honey chile they make some good bread! Pie to be more exact. OMG loved the peach pie, the crust was classic South with them taletell signs of loving fingers pressed on the golden baked crust. So many nicknacks and tschotkes to look at, come into this space to be transported to a gentler time, before all the silly woke nonsense and cancel culture. VERY POOR service, just okay food We have driven past this restaurant many times and finally went in to try it. Started out okay and the waitress took our drink order and brought us water with no ice. I asked for a straw and she said okay and walked away and immediately sat on her phone at the register right where we could see and never got me the straw. The other waiter had to come over and ask if we were okay and he immediately went and got a straw plus an extra cup of ice without even being asked for the ice. The food took a very long time and by the time it got there they had gotten my order wrong but we had waited so long that it wasn't worth waiting again for the correct order. The staff were slow and had no hustle or purpose with what they did. The female waitresses seemed to not care less about being there and would rather sit on their phone than check on their customers. The male waiter was helpful and definitely picked up on their slack. Another thing -- the staff was mopping while serving food and people were eating. In terms of food safety and cleanliness this should not be okay. The staff should mop before opening or after closing to be courteous to their customers and maybe a bit more attentive to them. We will not be coming back. We were very disappointed. read more

This place was so good for breakfast! A small barn style restaurant with open seating. We stopped in since it was close to our Airbnb and it was nice to see a bit overwhelming menu. I got the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs and my husband got the traditional breakfast and it was filling and had great flavor. Their coffee was EXCELLENT and the service was fantastic as they checked in regularly on us. We left with a few slices of pie and it was amazing. A definite treat in martindale. read more

I got the king ranch chicken and it was so delicious and flavorful with the right amount of spice, the beans were cooked to perfection and the cornbread was moist and delicious with the perfect hint of sweetness. My husband got the CFS and the batter was perfectly seasoned, mashed potatoes and green beans were delicious and well seasoned. We were traveling through Martindale to visit friends and decided to stop. The barn itself is cute.. beautiful wood floors, cute seating area for coffee of a baked good. The menu was pretty straightforward- I tried the chicken salad. The bread was burnt yet greasy. The chicken salad had dried cranberries which was a nice surprise. What wasn't a nice surprise was the bite with the huge glob of unmixed mayo. The owner was flip and suggested that I try to understand that mistakes happen. He offered a piece of pie to make up for it but I declined not only because of the mayo incident but because the muffin and cookie case was full of fruit flies. When I mentioned the experience to our friends, they said they'd wished we'd have asked them where to eat in town. They said they'd both gotten quite ill after eating there and hadn't been back. I learned a thing- ask a local where not to eat when visiting a new place. I wish I'd asked before eating at the Red Barn. Would give a zero if that were an option. read more

My cousin and I stopped in here on our way out of Wimberly for breakfast and coffee & really enjoyed it. The menu is small for breakfast and they serve biscuits, eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, gravy, French toast. For lunch they have one meal a day (like Sundays is pot roast with mashed potatoes, etc.) However, the place seems new. The staff is unorganized and confused. The food, though absolutely seasoned delicious (like eating at my granny's house) was ice cold. They had lots of coffee options and the two we ordered (lates with flavor) were hot and yummy. Overall, I would absolutely visit this place again and again. Thought the food was cold and the staff was a bit slow I was completely satisfied and could tell they were dedicated to the business. They were all obviously working very hard and did not slow down. I feel like they are still working out some kinks. One thing I think might help them is if they dedicated specific tasks to certain employees (like one person to serve and bus, one person to manage cash register and coffee bar, etc) rather than everyone trying to handle everything. Staff was very kind but all seemed overwhelmed. There were lots of yummy looking pastries and if I didn't have a long drive I would have bought a few to bring home to my family. Happened upon this place by chance and it is our new favorite bakery/cafe! We got a slice of two different pies and cannolis to try, along with a lavender iced coffee. SO FREAKEN GOOD! Probably the best coconut cream pie and cannolis I've ever had. They also have regular full meals you can order which we will be back to try! On top of the amazing food, the owners are very nice and welcoming. There is also a gift/antique looking shop attached to the bakery that has some cute and interesting stuff. My wife and I really wanted to experience this place, especially when reading all the positive reviews. I was "checking it out" thinking I wanted to bring a group of friends there. So disappointed! We arrived mid-morning and sat ourselves for breakfast. There weren't many people there so the order taking was quick and easy. The food arrived quickly but.... I ordered eggs over easy and my wife ordered fried eggs medium to well done, explaining she didn't want the yolks runny. Mine came barely over easy, but OK for me. More like sunny-side up than over easy. My wife's came the same as mine, very runny. I called over a person I believe was the chef/cook and my wife explained how she wanted them. She brought back 2 more eggs that looked, at first, like they were well fried until my wife broke into one of the yolks. Still very runny, more like what over easy would look. My wife put them aside and didn't eat them. When the waitress arrived to take the plates she didn't even ask why my wife didn't eat the eggs (there were now 4 eggs on her plate). I went up to pay and told the waitress about the eggs and while she did apologize, there wasn't any effort to attempt a remedy. This isn't an inexpensive place to eat and I fully expect that most places would have comp'd her meal, or at least made some other offer. While the small staff (2 people was all we saw) was friendly and polite, my breakfast was nothing special and my wife's was even less so. Needless to say, I won't be bringing my group of friends. There are way too many places that offer more for less. read more

I have always said this is the best breakfast in San Marcos -Martindale. I could eat their biscuits and gravy 7days a week. I don't eat their lunch specials that often but the pot roast Is like mom used to make. I know the chicken fried chicken or steak is great also. Sides are always fresh and great. I ordered our entire holiday meal from Red Barn Bakery. It was absolutely DELICIOUS! I wish I had of taken pictures to post because it was definitely worth showing. We had everything including, turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans, salad, cobbler, pumpkin pie, mac and cheese, rolls, etc. My family was very impressed and they are picky eaters. There was so much food and it was incredibly fresh and tasty. The cost was reasonable and everyone had plenty of food to take home. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to get food for a gathering or just to eat lunch there. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful! The cobbler was AMAZING! Everyone kept talking about it and the rolls were wonderful. Everything tastes like grandma used to make and is incredibly down home comfort, which is perfect for the holidays. I really can't say enough good things about the meal because it created a stress free holiday and it was delicious. Also I normally do not really like dressing and this is the best I have ever had. I have also personally eaten at this restaurant on numerous occasions, which is why I picked it for our meal. It is somewhat of a hidden gem in Martindale, Texas.
