It has a daybed in the entryway, a pretty big living room with chairs, a couch, and a TV, a fully equipped kitchen with dinning table and chairs, a decent sized bedroom with a comfy bed, a very clean bathroom, and a cute porch. The best part is that it has access to a private beautiful and quiet beach in the back of the property. It was perfect for swimming, shelling, and a romantic walk on the beach. We went to the beach near the lighthouse initially but regretted that we didn't spend more time at the beach right behind our cottage. The cost was a bit more than average but totally worth every penny IMO. We had the best time in Sanibel island and can't wait to return for another romantic getaway!

We wanted a hotel close to where they (the other family) would be staying and needed a suite...2 rooms so we could all have our privacy. Most hotels are far away from where we needed/wanted to be. Plus, if you need or want a suite it normally cost a small fortune. Not to mention we didn't want to be in a touristy area since we weren't there for that reason. Well...Jackpot! This place is located (for the lack of a better term) in a neighborhood. It is quiet and away from the riff-raff. It was a great location to us. It is dated, or older rather, but please don't let that sway you. The rooms are super clean and have so much to offer. Not only did we get 2 rooms, but we got two TV's, a wonderful fully supplied kitchen and if you need anything else...just ask! We didn't use the kitchen area, but it's fully stocked with everything you need (dishes, flatware, pots, glasses, etc.) and for long-term stays this would be great! We were very happy that we could have the privacy of the bedroom while our son could visit with his friend in the living room. Perfect! There is a pool with more than ample seating and umbrellas. In addition, the hotel is on the water in back with an amazing dock and seating area on the water to just hang out and relax. There is a corn hole area and a BBQ available as well. If you go to their website to make a reservation there is a statement to call since you may qualify for a discount. That said, they do give a military discount, but they give several others...be sure to give them a call if you wish to book. If I had a con at all it would be that slats were missing in the living room blind and couldn't have full privacy, nor block out the light for the morning hours and the lights outside at night. But it's certainly doesn't warrant marking it down a star...just a note for you! Note: although you are in a neighborhood...nothing is too far. There is a Publix less than a mile away for instance along with restaurants and a few shops. In the opposite direction in just over a mile is a McDonald's and Perkins to name a few. It's quiet, it's quaint, it's away from the crowds, the prices are nice, it has everything you need and more...it's perfect! I highly recommend and would be more than happy to stay here again.

We also went swimming and had the pool to ourselves about 4 pm Saturday. Such a change from most places! Everyone we ran into was really nice too. There's even a large grassy place to take your pet, and they have poop bags hanging on the fence if needed. We would love to return!

I thought it was rather strange that we needed to take out our own trash after our stay. Never had to do that before. Also, when I asked the front desk for two coffee packs, they were reluctant to give me a second pack. Told me they usually only start us with one. Kind of inconvenient. You mean you want me to walk all the way down here even when I already know I want two packs? It's coffee for crying out loud! Come on. That's petty. Other than those few annoyances, it was a cute place even though it was obviously older. Thankfully it didn't have a strong old scent (only in a few spots). The upkeep of the place is well handled. Oh, one more gripe! There's a bar at the pool. But it's inactive. Windward Passage Resort: Ardent Sunsets…read more Fifty-five years ago, as young educators, my wife and I selected Ft. Meyers beach as a holiday destination during the Christmas break. We enjoyed the Christmas holidays with our parents and relatives and drove south to Ft. Meyers Beach Holiday Inn for a week of sun, and the salty beaches and the Gulf of Mexico. I recall that we made this excursion in our new 1968 Camaro that did not have power steering, power anything, airbags, or a GPS system. And we endured/enjoyed the drive. What were we thinking? Holiday Inn and a road-trip to Florida? This was to be the last holiday taken in this fashion. We soon realized that our lifestyle provided plenty of holiday time, and we have the resources to fly to U.S. and world-wide destination. Holidays Inns are a vague and very distance memory. I tend to be a linear thinker concerning attendance at national conferences and in terms of planning holidays. We seem to have a queue of airline tickets and timeshare reservations. The vital holiday planning is for spring break. Within weeks of the last spring break, we are trading for next year's spring break, and we are finding airline tickets as soon as the airlines post the routes. There are too many reasons to purchase a two-bedroom condo, and our stable is filled with ten two-bedroom timeshares. However, we traded years ago into Windward Passage Resort (418 Estero Boulevard Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931 239-463-1194) on the quiet north section of Ft. Meyers Beach. Ft. Meyers Beach is not Sanibel and Captiva, but for a small fraction of the price, we purchased two weeks of one-bedroom units. There are very few two-bedroom units at this property, and very few two-bedroom units appear on the secondary market. I believe that location is vital; that timeshare ownership should be in geographic areas that one will re-visit; and that timeshare ownership is not an economic investment, but rather a lifestyle investment. Windward Passage Resort also turned out to be an economic investment. We sold the two properties at a profit. Windward Passage Resort is a resort that we greatly enjoyed for several years; all 52 weeks are flex ownership, and we always scheduled the very same unit for two consecutive weeks. Timeshare owners know the advantage of making these arrangements: no refrigerator transfer of food, no kitchen transfer, no bathroom transfers, and no clothing or luggage transfer. Windward Passage Resort has a great swimming pool on the south side; we always arranged to reserve our units on the north side with a beach view rather than a view of children playing about the pool. Some years, we found profit in renting the unit, and these ocean and beach front one-bedroom units traded into five star and two-bedroom units with a degree of ease. All 53 week are red weeks at Windward Passage Resort. My wife and I are avid tennis fans, and Windward Passage Resort, and the tennis courts are one story high on the roof of the parking lot. This is a unique and clever arrangement, and one which discourages ball retrieval. The photographs (while limited) on the Interval international Website do not provide justice to this gem of a property. Ft. Meyers is the archetypical Florida "snowbird city." The hordes come in November and depart in April. This means that often the bridge from Ft. Meyers to Ft. Meyers Beach is in gridlock. This is not the case in the summer months. We fly to the Ft. Meyers airport, pick up a Hertz number 1 automobile and drive the 18-22 miles to Windward Passage Resort in about 30 minutes. During the "snowbird months" allow at least an hour for the same trip. I posted this review on the Web several years ago: "Outstanding small resort located between city pier and city park. Although small rooms, the veranda provides an outstanding Gulf view. Summers are hot and humid, and good vacation times. Winters can generate fierce traffic problems. Hurricanes have done their worst to this property, and it has always bounced back. Ideal for small families. Great staff." The following post is representative as a summary of Many Web posts: "A unique, intimate Resort in a great beach location. Socials include Ice Cream Day, Pancake Day, Hot Dog, Burger Day & free coffee any day. A user-friendly quiet Resort with heated pool and complimentary beach chairs. Bring your own beach towels as they are not supplied and minimum toilet tissue or you can purchase additional rolls. Not far near the end of N. Ft. Myers Beach is the fabulous Pine Shell Resort for a tropical drink or meal and several quality island restaurants." The absolute best part of the day is at sunset. People flock to the beach in an almost religious manner to silently observe the ardent red ball of sun "descend into the ocean" or into a thin layer of clouds that provide a hue of red and pink for a 30-minute afterglow following sunset.

The pool only had about 5 tables, which were filled by 7 AM every morning. Take away some lounge chairs and put in tables. Not difficult to remedy. All of the activities were volunteer based?!?! What!? I have been to 30 different timeshares, and this was a first. I asked if they had a place where we could donate our leftover, unopened food to a food shelf, and they looked at us like we were insane. They said the staff takes them. The ocean was nice and warm, but very murky, which wasn't their fault of course. The fan in the main room did not work and lots of vent slats were missing from the AC registers. Fort Myers Beach is a wonderful place, but I think I would stay somewhere else. They have taken themselves for granted.

Edison Beach House advertises itself as a 4-star hotel, but our stay was nowhere close to that standard. While the beachfront location is excellent, the condition of our room was extremely disappointing and appeared to reflect years of deferred maintenance. Throughout the room we found: Ripped and torn blankets Holes in the walls, including beneath the air conditioning unit Chipped and damaged paint Multiple stains on the walls Stained furniture cushions Stained headboard Stains on the refrigerator Missing towel holders Broken light switches Beds that were unstable and in need of repair When we requested additional bath towels, we were initially told the hotel had no more towels available! Eventually, towels were brought to us, but they were bath rugs for the floor, rather than hotel bath towels. Of all the hotels I have stayed in, never had this experience. I documented the condition of the room with 21 photographs, because I was genuinely surprised that a property marketed as a 4-star hotel would be maintained this way. I am attaching the photographs so this doesn't become my interpretation, it is being shared as reality. After returning home, I contacted Edison Beach House in an effort to resolve the matter privately before posting a public review. I spoke with the manager, Marlene, who represented herself as being in charge of the property. I explained our experience and offered to share the photographs documenting the room's condition. Unfortunately, the conversation was as disappointing as the stay itself. Rather than listening to our concerns or discussing a possible resolution, she blamed us for not reporting every issue during our stay, attributed the condition of the property to hurricane damage from several years ago, stated that she did not care what type of review I posted, refused to provide contact information for the owners when I requested it, and ultimately ended the call by hanging up on me. Had that interaction been different, I don't get to the point of posting this review. I was genuinely surprised by both the condition of the property and the lack of professionalism in how our concerns were handled. I expected a conversation focused on understanding the issues and making things right--not dismissiveness and hostility. For nearly $400 per night, I believe guests should expect a clean, well-maintained room and respectful customer service. In our experience, Edison Beach House fell well short of those expectations. The beachfront location is wonderful, but location alone does not justify the price or outweigh the condition of the accommodations and the way our concerns were handled. I hope management and ownership take these concerns seriously and make meaningful improvements so future guests have a better experience than our family did.

Our infant slept in a crib that fit at the foot of the bed....however...there was no dead bolt so he was constantly escaping out of the room. No curtains so the bright light outside made it hard to sleep. Had to make a curtain out of a towel to block some of the blinding light. Speaking of towels: there were just two and we tried to get more, we were unable to get a hold of anyone! The entire stay! No one was in the office and no one answered the phone or returned an email. Thank goodness there was no emergency but we had one trashcan liner and two small towels for the entire stay. Couldn't buy any detergent for laundry from the front desk. It was frustrating. Toilet kept running and was slow to flush. Bathroom door knob was barely screwed in. No iron/ironing board. If someone else flushes the toilet in another room, water will get boiling hot. TV had to be turned on and volume adjusted manually. One bed was hard as a rock. Pillows are flat and there are no extras. Silverware was missing and not discovered until after we warmed the food. Definitely a sub-par motel stay. Won't be back unless we can't find any rooms left in the area. UPDATE: Despite no communication (office presence, call back, email reply) during our stay, I was surprised with a note in the mail with my ID that I had lost in the room! They found it and sent it back. This was so kind for them to do. Those reading this need to know that though customer service was lacking, they did go above when it came to returning my property. They didn't have to do this and it is appreciated.
