This business is just Kara in a tiny office suite: her small, hallway-like front office, and a small room with a massage table in the back. The space is painted sky blue and is inviting. Kara herself is friendly and welcoming, and really gives off that positive energy that is absolutely necessary from a good massage therapist. I have chronic aches and pains thanks to a thyroid disorder, so I get massages pretty regularly. Basically whenever there's a massage deal on Groupon or LivingSocial within a thirty-mile radius, I snap it up, because no matter how spectacular my Duke Select insurance is, it sure doesn't cover massage therapy. Kara gives an absolutely miraculous deep tissue massage. It can be a challenge to relax during deep tissue because, well, if you're already in pain, it kind of hurts, you know?, but this massage was the best of both worlds. The music playing was something from a yoga class, and the room itself just smelled great, adding a layer of aromatherapy to the experience. A big plus is that there is a private parking lot for this little office building, because you know how ridic parking in Carrboro can be. The only drawback was that I could clearly hear the noisy Friday afternoon chatter of the folks in the insurance office next door through the thin walls. That's the only reason I'd knock off a star, and that is not Kara's fault at all, just something to keep in mind. If you visit, however, during some time other than 9-5 / M-F, I would imagine that it wouldn't be an issue at all. All told, I would go back for sure.

He explained the difference between deep pressure and deep tissue and asked me which I wanted--deep tissue I said, and he got to work. At first I was a little baffled by the technique because I've never experienced true myofacial release before but one day later, I'm a convert. My whole body is more limber and more fluid than it's been in years. Not going to lie though--there were times when I wanted to laugh because it was a little ticklish and cry because it was so painful. Think the toughest parts of a foam rolling routine but for an entire session. A few times I asked for modifications and he quickly obliged. So I totally know that I could've avoided any pain altogether but it was the type of hurt where you just know is doing the body good. And as I type this, I'm grateful I stuck through it. This was easily the worst Brazilian wax I've ever had. For starters, my esthetician did not leave the room for me to get undressed and get on the table. I have never had that happen to me, and made me uncomfortable from the jump. For context, I've been waxing for about 2 years now. This wax hurt more than when I tried sugaring a few months back, which hurt like noooobody's business. My esthetician pulled almost every strip off in two pulls, which prolonged the pain. I've had estheticians sometimes pull strips in two rips if it's a big one, but never EVERY SINGLE ONE. At the end of the wax, she went back and did a few clean up strips AND tweezed. I was confident that she did a good job, even though she didn't offer a mirror to look at her work. As soon as I got into my car, I lifted my dress just to peek. When I tell you PATCHES! I have NEVER had an esthetician miss so. many. hairs. And not like thin, lighter hairs that the wax can't grab. Thick, coarse hairs that definitely could have and should have been removed. I was so disappointed. Not to mention, this is the most expensive Brazilian I've ever had ($62 BEFORE TIP). Definitely not worth the money, and I won't be back.
