I went to Dr. Jelic because he definitely has experience and expertise with surgical procedures. What I didn't know was that he has a strong stance against vaccines. There's a lot to unpack there but that's not the crux of what happened or why I'm upset. Due to his vaccination status, he isn't authorized to work in a hospital and cannot perform double jaw surgery. However- he does not tell you this until as late into the process as possible. This is after you have already invested thousands on the surgical pre-planning. For me, it was also after I had already been in braces for months. His lobby (which, honestly, is very nice and cozy) has jaw surgery pamphlets and his website as of today still features it as an option. They're able to collect quite a bit of money upfront with no intention of actually performing the surgery, then leave you hanging. I do not believe it is an honest way to conduct a business. At the time, I was told instead we can do one jaw at a time (several weeks in between) in his office. We decided to go forwards with this and scheduled to meet in 3 months. On the morning of my scheduled follow up, I got a call saying they would need to do both jaws at the same time and they can't treat me. I asked if there was anyone they could refer me to but they offered no help or sympathy. They did not respond to any emails or calls from me afterwards. I wanted to thank Siri because her review gave me the courage to say something when the rest of their reviews are so positive. I finally finished my braces journey and found out from my orthodontist that I'm not the first person this happened to. He was not aware of Dr. Jelic's inability to operate in a hospital until recently, with the other patient. This is someone he works with and he intentionally kept this information from. The first patient had gone through the entire process required to prepare for jaw surgery, only to be dropped last minute as well. I lost time, money, and peace of mind for months, not being able to get clear answers from his office. I ended up needing to change and redo my entire braces plan.I feel like the situation was extremely unethical and I wanted to put it out there, and hopefully help even at least one person out there who is looking into their options. This review shouldn't impact you much if you're looking to get a more routine procedure, like an extraction. Jaw surgery and the preparation required is a hard enough process on its own, place your trust and resources with an honest doctor.

This may not be because of Dr. Jelic himself, as my appointments with him were all timely and straightforward. I have been fortunate to encounter many positive experiences in the realm of medicine. I was fully prepared for this experience to have joined those ranks. This surgery was for the healing of my physical pain. The experience with my orthodontist on this case has been outstanding. I have been wearing metal bracket braces for 21 months as a 44-year-old mother of three young children. Because of the way Dr. Jelic's administration has handled my case, I have now been in braces for several additional and unneeded months, each with their usual cost of $275/month. After roughly 16 months as a patient of Dr. Jelic's office, a process that included imaging, surgical planning, and bi-monthly appointments, a nurse at my last appointment directed me to request two itemized listings for the two upcoming surgeries at check-out so I could understand the cost differences if I opted to separate the procedures. The office administrator dismissed the nurse's request for separate pricing and seemed unconcerned about our questions that resulted from another all-encompassing listing that I did receive. The listing sent to us exceeded the cost range of the surgeries given to us at the start of my treatment. The administrator even misspelled their own name in their last email sent to me, causing me to wonder if my case was being taken seriously at all. Weeks later after I submitted another email asking whether or not a BSSO involves any short-term or long-term pressure applied to the turbinates--while this question never received a response, my husband did open a Dear John letter stating that because I had expressed dissatisfaction from not being able to acquire answers to the questions raised by my nurse, that I was free to pursue a BSSO elsewhere. It was also cited that I could pursue surgery elsewhere because I had been emailed as a follow-up to *my own question asked to the administrator during the phone call*. but that I had not responded promptly. The letter stated that because I did not reply promptly to this email, that this was interrupted as a lack of teamwork. I initiated treatment for my facial pain. I had paid the bills, gone through with large braces and experienced 17 months of responsiveness, during which time the administrator contacted me through text messages and phone calls. The point of the response I received pertained to my own request to speak directly with the doctor-- wouldn't it require a viewpoint of teamwork from Dr. Jelic's office to perform the due diligence of "This patient has never not responded before. There are multiple ways to follow-up with her via text or phone call as I have in the past?" Instead, it was determined that the best next step for the patient is restart their BSSO journey, in spite of their current pain level, in spite of the last 16 months they have already spent in braces. In December of 2025, I finally faced the fact that it was time either to intervene in the slow-and-steady decline of my teeth, or throw in the towel and get dentures. Dr. Arash Khani listened closely to my story, taking into careful consideration all the issues and concerns I expressed, including my general aversion to dental work, my lack of confidence in myself to maintain healthy teeth and gums, and my budget--I do not have the luxury of dental insurance. He subsequently presented me with likely scenarios if I were to choose either to continue ignoring the problem or to give up and replace all my natural teeth. He contrasted those options with a detailed treatment plan that could restore my smile. Thank goodness I chose to put my trust in him and his recommendations! What initially drew me to this particular practice was its proximity to my home; it's located across Banks Street from Tymberline Shopping Center, three short blocks from my front door. But my happiness with the convenient location was quickly supplanted by my delight with the people who comprise the staff. It is they who have left the strongest impression, and I'd like to tell you a little about each of those who've worked with me. First, there's Joanna at the front desk. I can say without reservation I've never met a person who's more kind and caring, warm and friendly, skilled and knowledgeable. Each and every time I walk through the front door she puts me at ease, and it's clear I'm the most important person in the room. Whenever I have any question about the schedule, or my treatment plan, or my bill, she's immediately on top of the matter and either answers straightaway, or gets me the answer after consulting others in the practice. Joanna is a gem! Saylor is my Dental Hygienist. So far, only two of my visits have been with her, and--given the state of my gums--she's had her work cut out for her! This has resulted in my having had less personal interaction with her compared to the others, but nonetheless it's clear she's exceptionally good at her job and as pleasant company as possible when one's patient's oral cavity is also a construction zone. Cheryl is one of Dr. Khani's Dental Assistants, and she is a truly extraordinary person. Over the course of 16 visits to restore my smile, we got to know each other far better than I can remember having known anyone in a similar role. At each new step in this long dental process--from a few minor extractions, to caps, to crowns, to implants, to a final whitening--I never ceased to be amazed at the depth and breadth of her knowledge of procedures, and her astonishing ability to balance the needs of the doctor getting things accomplished, with my need as a patient to be treated with compassionate kindness and, in my case, delicacy. She always seems to know, with pitch-perfect accuracy, when to squeeze my hand, offering a gentle word, when to suddenly distract my attention, and when the best remedy in the moment is to tell some wretchedly corny dad joke! I feel truly blessed to have her in my life. It sounds odd when I hear myself say it but, because of Cheryl, "I'm looking forward to my next trip to the dentist's office!" This leaves Dr. Arash Khani, himself. While demure and unassuming in manner, this gentleman's life story is an inspiration. I suspect his humble origins and the difficulties he surmounted in reaching his present position play a major part in making him the easy-going and approachable person he is. As a professional, I'm unable to imagine how anyone could be more adept and well-rounded. He is a wizard at pain blocking--very high on my list! He has equipped his practice with the most modern and efficient devices available.
