I do want to leave an honest review for anyone with celiac disease considering booking their afternoon tea. I booked the gluten-free option in advance, so they were aware of my dietary need. When the food was brought out it was flagged as gluten-free (with a cute American flag stick) but had been placed directly underneath and beside the gluten-containing food on the same tray, making it unsafe for someone with celiac. Cross contamination is a serious issue for people with this condition, not just a preference. They did try to make it right by bringing me a replacement plate, the replacement was not comparable to the full tea experience and the tea came out cold. If you do not have dietary restrictions, I think you would really enjoy this place. If you have celiac, I would recommend calling ahead and having a thorough conversation about food handling before you book.

We finally made i back to Canaan Land Farm B&B (see previous review). This time with the addition…read moreof our 9 year old daughter and a brother-in-law. It was also August. We got to stay in the renovated Philemon Waters Cabin of 1815 this time around. Despite the oppressive heat/humidity the modernization's to the cabin, A/C, made the nights comfortable. The common area of the cabin has an activity corner for lack of proper term. My daughter did utilize it during our stay. She survived quite well despite the lack of us allowing her to use any electronic device. We searched for rocks and using the provided paints, she painted them and left them in the common room for others to enjoy. The provided breakfast meal was just as hearty as it was during our first visit. The variety and quantity of food brought to the cabin in the morning was outstanding. It's nice to see more horses on property, It was also a site to see when whole herds (if that is what they are called) of deer come out of the tree line into the fields on the cloudless nights. On multiple nights we had to see them numbered at least in the 35-45 range. The owners have been able to make some improvements to sections of the grave road/drive into the Farm, but one still knows that you will definitely disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of daily life traveling up to the property. The owners are continuing to do a fantastic job! Now I would like to go there during the Spring time now that I have seen the Fall and Summer times on the Farm. Only this time I hope to not wait another 3 years!

But if you…read morewant a weekend away from it all in some of the most beautiful land above the Kentucky River palisades you don't have to wait for them to complete their work. There are currently two places to stay - the Philemon Waters Cabin is a renovated large old log cabin with room for 5-8 depending on whether you are willing to share a double bed. This very old cabin has two bathrooms with all needed conveniences including plush towels and toiletries. There is a massive working fireplace in the cabin and Matt laid the fire for us twice so we could have warmth and a cozy ambience when we wanted to sit by a fire and talk. Another option is the Colonial Cottage newer and with a kitchen/dining, sitting room and upstairs bedroom (queen bed, I believe). There are plans for rooms to be available in the main farm house. Canaan Land Farm is closed during the winter months. The long road down to the farm is fine for a sedan or SUV; a sports car or motorcycle would find it more of a challenge. There are several horses on the property and they share a big field behind the Colonial Cottage. There are mowed paths through fields above the river (you can't make it down to the river, however). The bed I slept in (Colonial Cottage) was comfortable, with good pillows and the towels are plush. The breakfast was generous - eggs, bacon, toast or rolls, fruit, yogurt, coffee and tea. I stayed in the Colonial Cottage on an early fall, cool rainy weekend and found the electric heaters adequate for maintaining a comfortable temperature. Several friends and I were at Canaan Land farm for a reunion. Two of them and I had arranged to share two rooms and a bath in the main house. However the rooms were not ready for use (painting and ?) so I was upgraded to the Colonial Cottage with no additional charge and my friends doubled up in the cabin and Kari and Matt adjusted their charge to the additional person charge which seemed fair. This would be a good place for a getaway for a spring color weekend or full bloom spring weekend. It is definitely not a chain luxury hotel accommodation, but for those who want quiet and tranquility it is a good fit.

The road leading to this campground is a two lane country road with no shoulders for 6 miles. To…read moremake it more fun, the last mile is a one lane, steep, curvy road with blind turns and no shoulders. Thankfully, we did not encounter any oncoming vehicles. I can see why they are sticklers about arriving and departing times! Check-in was quick, and the lady told us that someone would help us park. And that is a very good thing. The main area is an oval, and it's a tight, one way road. It would have been challenging to back into our site without help. The sites are narrow and very unlevel. We had to run to Walmart for more blocks. BTW the campground brochure says Walmart is 8 miles away. It's 12 and takes a good half hour or more depending on if you have to wait at a train crossing. Ask me how I know. When we returned to the campground, the staff was handing out concrete blocks to help people get level. They really need to warn prospective customers about this. The sites are close together, and there is no privacy. There is no cell coverage, and the WiFi is spotty. There are two toilets and two showers in the bathrooms, and they are clean. They also have a nice laundry room with large machines. Be prepared for ticks - we all picked up one or two just moving around the campsites. The river is beautiful surrounded by tall rocks. They rent boating equipment and have a few Adirondack chairs to sit by the river.
