My daughter and I travelled a long distance after seeing your advertisements stating that small pets are welcome in the bar area. We brought our small pedigree miniature Bichon, who I was carrying in my arms when we arrived. There was an unreserved table for two available inside, but we were told we had to sit outside. When I politely asked why we couldn't sit at the empty table, the manager snapped at us in front of other customers and said, "If you want to sit there, you need to order now," while handing us the menu. There were a number of people behind us waiting and others in the bar listening, which made the whole situation very embarrassing. As I started to read the menu, the manager then changed her mind and told us we could only order soup or chowder. We were no longer allowed to order anything else. I simply couldn't understand why we were being treated differently when there was an available table and your venue advertises that small pets are welcome in the bar. What upset me most wasn't just that we couldn't have a meal--it was the way we were made to feel. We had travelled a considerable distance in good faith, expecting a warm welcome, only to leave feeling embarrassed, singled out and unwelcome. As a dog owner, I find it deeply disappointing that genuinely pet-friendly hospitality is still so difficult to find in Ireland. Our dogs are part of our families. We don't expect special treatment--just honesty in advertising and to be treated with the same courtesy and respect as any other customer. We left without eating, feeling hurt and ashamed. I hope this review encourages a more compassionate approach towards customers who travel with well-behaved pets.

We had a 5:00 reservation because that was all they had, and we were directed to a dark corner in the bar by the rude hostess (we later learned she owns the place) even though there were three empty tables--two of them still dirty--right by the window. She reluctantly agreed to seat us at one--one of the dirty ones--with this warning: "You will leave at 6. You need to understand that." (PS 6 came and went and no one asked to leave) We never had the same server; various very young servers would drop off things--like the bottle of wine we ordered, already opened, no tasting. They never asked how our dinners were, which was too bad because I was given a butter knife to cut my overdone steak. A steak knife might have actually allowed me to cut through it and eat the thing. They wouldn't take it off the bill because apparently the chef could cut it--do you think he used a butter knife? On our way out we passed a tween happily cutting away on her steak with an actual knife. It's the only restaurant in town and I still wouldn't go back.

We got the fish cakes and Caesar salad for apps and the seafood pie and Chicken Eirann for entrees. Everything was done perfectly from the pleasantly surprising mango curry sauce with the fish cakes to the savory and delightful sauce on the chicken Eirann. Normally I avoid chicken dishes because they can be kinda boring but the server and some Yelp pictures steered me towards the chicken Eirann and I'm so glad because it was amazing. My husband really enjoyed the fish pie with a Smithwicks to wash it down.

They don't really have a hostess, so it was awkward putting our name in, one of the waitresses acknowledged us and we waited by the front door. We were seated after 10 minutes and we ordered drinks and food. We assumed they would be trying to close after 9 as soon as they could, but it took a good 30 minutes to get our food. 2 of us had fish and chips, the other a bacon cheeseburger. The fish was very crispy, it tasted good, although I could not detect the freshness of the fish compared to the other places in Ireland. Turns out I like mushy peas, tastes just like split pea soup. The bacon cheeseburger was excellent. The menu closely resembled the menu from Quay west about 2 doors down, so I would avoid steaks and pastas. It took a while to get my second drink, and then a good 20 minutes before we could pay our bill. So it took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to have a pretty basic meal. Seating is upstairs and downstairs with a solid nautical theme throughout.

Opened the box with the mushrooms to find then literally laying in a layer of grease. I used 2 napkins to soak up the grease. The mushroom themselves were a dark brown, almost burnt to a crisp, and when you bite into them your mouth was soaked in grease :((. The seafood box: calamari was the opposite of the 'dead' mushrooms and pale as a ghost. Cod super greasy batter and not eatable like the mushrooms although the cod inside was flaky and good. Haddock was the best thing in the box both in flavour and batter, which was different to the cod. Fish and chips: batter same as above, very greasy but cod inside was good. The chips were totally bland.

The guy at the visitor's center told us about this place so we decided to give it a try. She is known for having the best seafood chowder in County Donegal (she won a competition). We tried to get it, but unfortunately, she was leaving for vacation the next day and had run out so we didn't get to try it. We all got the seafood box so we could try a little bit of everything. It came with calamari, scampi, haddock, cod, and chips. The calamari was the best I've had. The scampi was also delicious. The regular fish which I believe was haddock was very good. The fish sticks which I think were the cod were just ok. The chips were pretty good. You can also choose your sauce so I got the tartar and the pink sauce. I would probably do the scampi and calamari (half and half) next time. Everything is made fresh, so after you order you wait about 10 minutes for your food. It's cash only and there is an ATM across the street. There is no seating so we ate at the picnic table outside the visitor's center. We had fish and chips several times on our trip and this was definitely the best we had. If you are in the area, this is definitely a must try!
