    Fresh local mussels
    Clare P.

Went here today for a bit of lunch as it was recommended by a few people. We arrived about 12.45pm which was not long after the restaurant opened. By about 1.15pm the place was packed. It's easy to see why....The view over Rossnowlagh beach is fantastic, we even managed to spot a few dolphins. Back to the food! I decided to go for the fresh local mussels and I was not disappointed, I was surprised by the portion size as it was huge and the white wine sauce was lovely. Also tried the bruschetta but this wasn't great, bit too greasy and the bread was a tad soggy. For my main I went for an open prawn sandwich on wheaten bread and a bit of salad on the side. Pleasantly stuffed! The staff were friendly and helpful.

On the front of Mullaghmore harbour stands this top class seafood restaurant. You can't miss it,…read morethe artwork on the outside walls is a 'give-away'. Inside is an eye opener with so much bric-a-brac around the walls. However interesting, we were here for the food. That cannot be surpassed. So fresh and in ample quantity. Initially on the table was seaweed bread with seaweed pesto, unusual for us but so delicious. Large crab claws, huge prawns and shrimp, Donegal mussels galore and beautiful fries (not your thin fries but chunky chips). Fish and chips is a must. Not the battered variety but catch of the day, lightly dusted with polenta, and shallow fried to perfection. Now to my favourites, those Wild Atlantic oysters. Four of them were enough for me. So juicy and succulent, full of the sea but so sweet. The food was brilliant but let us not forget the service. We had an upstairs table, at the window watching the youngsters jumping off the harbour walls into that freezing water. Being served by a young lady and the owner Eithna. A evening with a perfect last night meal made our holiday unforgettable. Looking forward to a return visit. Slainte Mhath

Hyped up and so overrated! Very disappointed and would never go back. We got the cod & fish,…read moreseafood box and garlic mushrooms. Opened the box with the mushrooms to find then literally laying in a layer of grease. I used 2 napkins to soak up the grease. The mushroom themselves were a dark brown, almost burnt to a crisp, and when you bite into them your mouth was soaked in grease :((. The seafood box: calamari was the opposite of the 'dead' mushrooms and pale as a ghost. Cod super greasy batter and not eatable like the mushrooms although the cod inside was flaky and good. Haddock was the best thing in the box both in flavour and batter, which was different to the cod. Fish and chips: batter same as above, very greasy but cod inside was good. The chips were totally bland.

This was one of my favorite meals we had in Ireland. We were only in Killybegs for one night and…read morenone of other restaurants looked very good. The guy at the visitor's center told us about this place so we decided to give it a try. She is known for having the best seafood chowder in County Donegal (she won a competition). We tried to get it, but unfortunately, she was leaving for vacation the next day and had run out so we didn't get to try it. We all got the seafood box so we could try a little bit of everything. It came with calamari, scampi, haddock, cod, and chips. The calamari was the best I've had. The scampi was also delicious. The regular fish which I believe was haddock was very good. The fish sticks which I think were the cod were just ok. The chips were pretty good. You can also choose your sauce so I got the tartar and the pink sauce. I would probably do the scampi and calamari (half and half) next time. Everything is made fresh, so after you order you wait about 10 minutes for your food. It's cash only and there is an ATM across the street. There is no seating so we ate at the picnic table outside the visitor's center. We had fish and chips several times on our trip and this was definitely the best we had. If you are in the area, this is definitely a must try!
