We were in Willamette Valley a few weeks ago for wine tasting but before heading out we grabbed some caffeine here. Such a cute bookstore with a lovely coffee bar in side. Charming building with wonderful upper windows and open space. Love that there are table to sit down even though we were getting it to go. Two of my friends are pretty much purest just drip or an americano. I had a chai and my other friend has a matcha. The Chai was a little sweet for my taste but was still good. The staff was very friendly and helpful answered my friend's questions about one of the roasts so they're well informed about the coffee they serve definitely would visit again. read more

Our coffee stop is always improved when the location has books as well! This one has both books and an ice cream shop inside so a triple threat! The coffee was good though I asked for a macchiato on ice with caramel syrup and the server questioned me and told me a macchiato isn't really like the one at Starbucks which I knew and that is why I ordered it. I explained that I like that a true macchiato doesn't have a lot of milk. She still wasn't convinced I knew what I was ordering and said she would make me a small latte. Not wanting to go further into why I wanted what I wanted, I agreed and happily sipped my latte while perusing the books. It's a small bookstore but the selection was top notch. They also serve pastries and I had a taste of my husband's old fashioned donut and it was a great accompaniment to espresso. read more

The atmosphere in this book and coffee shop is so cute and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The coffee is delicious! This is a space in the community I will happily be frequenting when I need a space to work, a cozy spot to read, or want to show friends from out of town a wonderful third space that is welcoming of all. Chapters was voted Newberg's favorite coffee shop in 2025, and I see why. They also keep longer hours, which most coffee shops in town do not. I found a new favorite spot! This is a spot downtown that has books(hence the name), coffee, and an ice cream spot called cream northwest. It's like a hipster Starbucks. You can order your coffee or ice cream and hangout with your laptop and work or whatever you want to do. They have games for purchase from expansion games, and expansion also does a board game night every other Monday. It's worth checking out if you're walking around downtown and need a coffee or some delicious ice cream, or if you need to find a quiet place to get some work done. read more

Fair warning... you no longer receive what you pay for at this establishment. While the book selection is fun and provides visitors with a pretty broad range of choices, especially given the smaller size of the store, I recommend purchasing your lattes elsewhere. Once upon a time (2008-ish-2012-ish), I loved this place, hanging out at least once a week while my daughter rode her horse nearby; over the years, I continued to visit when I was in the area; the last visit being some time around 2019. Sadly, the management has made changes (according to the manager on duty during my most recent visit) that are not in the customer's best interest. During my last two visits, I ordered a latte with no foam. The first time... my husband picked up my drink and didn't realize it was only 3/4 full; I chalked this up to an honest error. I was mistaken. It was intentional. After receiving my 3/4 full latte on my second, recent visit, I asked the barista to please add milk; after all, I'd paid for a 16 ounce drink and received 12 ounces, so I'm not sure why this would be unreasonable? The manager response? "Would you like cold milk?" Me: Not so much; when I explained that I would prefer steamed milk, she proceeded to explain that management had "made changes" that involved pre-measuring the milk before steaming. At first, I wondered if this was a way to save money, but that didn't make sense, since she'd offered me "cold milk". Her clear acknowledgment that the cup was not full, coupled with an outright refusal to reasonably rectify the situation, told me all I needed to know. This is no longer the shop I once loved. Next time I'm in Newberg, it's my turn to "make changes"; I'll be checking out Caravan Coffee, Sip Coffee and Lyrics Cafe to see if I can get a great latte served by a great barista, something that seems a bit beyond Chapters' recent changes. read more

After a tireless day of hardworking wine tasting I decided I needed a reward; ice cream. Because wine was just an entrée. When we first walked in it totally looked like just another charming little book store. But I could smell the ice cream coming from the back of the store not that new book smell. I wish that my phone hadn't died right after I checked in, otherwise I would have taken some photos of the interesting gourmet ice cream flavors they were offering. I chose something like toasted cream. It reminded me of sugar cookies, which I love. Since I'm supposed to be on a diet, I ordered the child sized scoop. It was delicious. Frankly, I'm surprised that a bookstore would want a bunch of ice cream dripping patrons lounging around in their comfy looking chairs and getting their sticky fingers all over their books. We browsed the books while everyone got their ice cream. In just the small area I confined myself to I noticed they had quite a nice variety of books on local life from bird watching to cuisine. Three Stars for the coffee. New to the neighborhood looking for a coffee spot to relax on the weekends get that caffeine going and just be able to chill for an hour or so before anyone gets up. This place is within walking distance. Plenty of comfortable seating. Nice little tables with plenty of space between tables. I think they were naturally social distanced. All good so far till you order. Maybe I just caught them before their first cup of coffee. I asked a question about the flavor board being my first visit and the answer caught me off guard. Well those are flavors. Really flavors on the board that says flavors? I asked what the flavors were for coffee? Tea? Bubble tea? Do they make smoothies here? Not really that bad but then compound with I get my drink and it like here you go. No questions like need more cream? Sweetener a spoon? So I assume there is some sort of bar. Nope back to the counter. Can I have some sweetner? Here it comes the rudest word in customer service....WHAT? Sorry I interrupted you. Yes can I have some Sugar please. Then I hear ..oh god.(excuse me?) Here you go I am handed two packets.. So again I sit there. Look around walk around maybe there are stirrers or spoons somewhere. Nope. Back to the counter. Can I have a spoon please? WHAT? (Are you kidfing me?) Felt like I was getting punked. Ok then if not for watching the next three customers go through similar trials to get a sweetner and a spoon I would not have written this up. I had a mid afternoon meeting here recently. Apparently so did everyone else in Newberg. The place was hopping. I ordered a large nonfat extra hot vanilla latte. It was beyond excellent! So silky, so creamy - just yum. Excellent coffee! They also had some pastries that looked awesome, but I was still full from lunch, so I passed. Coffee, books...what's not to like? I popped in here today at the recommendation of one of the boutique managers in the area and I was IN LOVE with the vibe in here. I was just looking for a coffee, and didn't expect to find such a good one in a local bookstore. I just ordered a simple vanilla latte, but it lacked any bitterness or acidity that can often come with this order in unknown places. It was perfect. My sister ordered a honey lavender latte and expressed that I definitely should have gone with that, I will definitely be trying that next time and look forward to a return visit to browse the books and try the ice cream as well. read more

Chapters Books is usually my go-to coffee option when I drive through Newberg on the way home from the wine country, since it is in the heart of downtown going the "right direction" when I'm headed towards Portland since the business district is divided on two one-way streets. But, I tend to prefer the atmosphere of some of the other coffee houses in the area. The space seems too big, and therefore underutilized, even though it is both a bookstore and coffee house. The coffee house portion serves upscale coffee drinks with Stumptown beans and they sell bags of beans and related paraphernalia from both Stumptown and Intelligentsia (http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/). Props for that. I've been underwhelmed by the bookstore portion of the business. When a Stumptown craving hits me in this area, I think Red Hills Market in Dundee gets top marks. They also have a small selection of books focused on the wine country and related foodie topics. read more

I don't know if they have free WiFi (?) but everyone in the sitting area seemed to be in their laptops.
