I recently went to Dr Hoffman for an eye exam. He is very kind and professional .He took his time and got me my new prescription lenses! Also his staff are such great hard working people! Dan in Optical is very good at what he does! He also makes the patients feel right at home! Lou and Jessica and carol are great also and very friendly. Also Dr Raven is great and very good at what she does! This is a high volume practice and yet they made me feel like a valued patient! Thanks to you all very much!! I give the Dr. only 3 stars because after going to him for over 20years, I will no longer go back. It is because of his Office Manager who not only is rude and unaccommodating but officious and bossy. Because I had seen him for so many years I agreed to having him "co-manage" my cataract surgery at an exorbitant cost. This was because the laser type was supposedly not covered by Medicare. Then I find out I did not need to have my surgery "co-managed" so this high fee was unnecessary. I regret having to write this as I think the Doc is great, but my gut tells me something fishy is going on with the charges. Other friends who have had the cataract surgeon did not need a "co-manager". read more

I've waited three months to write this review. I was hoping I could rate George higher, but the overall experience was horrible. As a footnote, Dr. Hoffman and I grew up in the same neighborhood back east. during my visits, we would reminisce about glory days. He's a terrific guy, and a very good doctor. Unfortunately, , when my glaucoma became worse, I moved to a specialist in that field. So I no longer see him, but my wife went to him this past January. Here's the scoop. Upon offering her insurance to Dr. Hoffman's wife, she was told that the payment must be paid immediately or she wouldn't get to see the doctor. Hoffman's wife told her that she hadn't met her Medicare deductible, (She had). She also wouldn't take our VSP for the refraction part of the exam. She paid up front. Now I'll cut to the chase. After requesting a speed bill to send in a request for reimbursement, I was stonewalled to no end. I spent 15 minutes on the phone with the Dr. wife, and basically told me the receipt for the credit card payment was all we get. After explaining that my secondary pays when Medicare doesn't, still no respect. Getting her to take my call was difficult, but her responses to my request caused her to ruder than I expected. She finally told me that the billers would send the actual bills to me, as she hung up the phone. They never did. Two months later, still not hearing from their billing department, I called Hoffman's office again. When the Doctors wife was out of the office, one of the other assistants, gave me the number of the billing office. I finally got through, after three tries to the person who handles the billing. By that time, I knew that Medicare indeed paid. My secondary insurance paid the final amount on March 23. I requested my credit card be reimbursed for the entire amount of her general exam. Dr. Hoffman is required to accept the insurance as payment in full. Again stonewalled. The biller told me that the check my secondary sent was not in her possession, and that it probably went to the doctor's office. What a CLUSTER!!! I called again three weeks later, and received the same response, that the office hadn't sent her a check from the secondary. I finally got the biller to agree to send me a bill for the refraction portion, so I could forward to VSP. No agreement or time when the credit will come. Okay, I'm getting kind of upset with this whole operation. I have no alternative but to get in touch with Medicare for their FRAUD and the BBB over this behavior. They should be ashamed of themselves. And Dr. Hoffman, if you think that this is okay, you should retire. Good day Sir. read more

Dr. Hoffman is a great doctor. He has been my doctor for many years. He is a kind man and cares about his patients. Unfortunately after my encounter with his wife over the phone, I can no longer continue as his patient. I am reading the comments on the side of this box and it seems I am not the only one who has been disrespected by Mrs. Hoffman. I was not going to write this at all because I respect Dr. Hoffman but then I thought maybe he is not aware of how she treats patients. He is so busy doing his job he may be clueless. I hope the doctor will have time to read my message and look at all the other comments on the right side of it. I check 5 stars because he is a five star doctor I hope he takes time to consider the comments on the behavior of his front desk people. The negative attitude starts with his wife. Dr. Hoffman is excellent concerned about your eye health. His billing practice to me was unethical. His last billing for a referral for cataract with Conejo-Simi Eye Group which included $2,800 for post procedure care. I contacted my insurance company and they said they never submitted a claim for "post procedure" which is unethical and illegal and not covered. The insurance company contacted Dr. Hoffman and arranged for repayment of $2,800 back to me. I am now seeing another ethical Doctor within Conejo-Simi Eye Group. read more

Awful, awful service! Good doctor but the front office manager (the wife of the doctor) is beyond awful. She is super rude, disrespectful, bossy and know it all. She will not listen and will talk over you... I called the office to see if I can leave a message but his wife would not take my message. She said she will NOT let him know that I needed to talk to him. Then she hung up on me. I have seen the way her and her front office treat the patients especially the older patients. Dr. Hoffman is such a nice man and a good doctor but his office staff and the business practices have had me wanting to leave for years. I'm finally out after they tried to make me pay a 20% copay that I don't have and then said I still owe $60 for a refraction. I let them know that my annual exams are covered but they said no we have signs posted now that tell you it's $60 for refractions. Don't go here. Unfortunately Hoffman's wife and office staff are so awful. Unfriendly, unhelpful, uncaring and just rude and mean. I feel so bad that such a man is married to such a horrible woman. read more

I couldn't even get past his office staff to keep my already made appoinment. My sister called his office to set up an emergency eye exam as I had a huge stye under my upper eyelid and she set the appointment but when i called back, I was hung up on before I even got a chance to talk to anyone. I was referred by my optomitrist 3 days ago who told me that if it got any bigger I would need it lanced. When I finally got through to someone on my 4th call, I explained that I needed to keep my appointment which I was told that they were cancelling, and that I needed a quote on an exam and and possible lance. I was told that "The Dr. wouldn't do a lazer". I said that I didn't say lazer, but a lance. Then i was told, "Dr won't do a lance in the office." Then I asked again, "where does he do lancing?" They said, he doesn't. Why did it take so long to be told that he won't do a lance? Then they tried to cancel my appointment again. I told her that I still want to keep my apointment. I politely asked if I could get a referral to a lid specialist in case my eye needs to be drained and they refused so I asked for a call back from the Dr. and was told that "He will not call you back." I'm not sure why this has happened but after reading all reviews, I am not sure that I would refer this office purely based on my initial experience but I will let you know after Monday. read more

The office manager Raina Hoffman Is a super un friendly, not helpful & Rude woman. This woman who understood there was a problem with the insurance card (only because they could not see the insurance information on line) decided to say they could not see the patient, then when questioned why and what the problem was about... ignored us then walked into her office. The very helpful staff up front went in to speak with her because she ran and hid. The staff came back to say she was busy on the phone when I could clearly see her (door now open) and she was not on the phone. The helpful staff member checked again made some calls and then made sure the appointment happened and insurance was fine. I hope Dr. Hoffman reads this e-mail and gives this helpful girl up front a raise! As for the Rude office manager... I hope she learns some manners and learns to help patients instead of ignoring and lie to their face. Unfortunately before you get to Dr. Hoffman you have to deal with the front office. To be more specific, the office manager, who is awful. She is extremely rude, intimidating to her poor office staff and treats repeat customers like crap. Recently I had my yearly appointment and forgot my insurance card at home. I had a picture of it and the office manager refused to let me have my appointment without my physical insurance card in hand. I've been going to this Doctor for over 20 years; He is one of the best in the area. Great bedside manner. Most of the time, His office is crowded because he is in such high demand. My doctor's go to him. Well worth whatever minor irritation you go through with his staff. I called the office of Dr Hoffman for diabetes eye exam, the receptionist was polite and scheduled me for next day 2pm. I walked in at 1:40 and was greeted by a friendly front desk girl, registration was straightforward. I was taken in a exam room a few minutes after 2 and a nurse performed initial tests. The best part was meeting Dr Hoffman; a friendly gentleman and a confident physician, he examined my eyes thoroughly without second guessing and didn't stop until he was sure my eyes didn't have diabetes. As a senior citizen, I had my fair share of doctors and I can recommend this great doctor to anyone looking for an eye physician. I trust him with my eyes. read more

I had an eye infection and Dr. Hoffman was referred to me by another doctor and called his office concerning a persistent eye infection. I've been without a regular Ophthalmologist for awhile so I was hoping the Doctor could see me and take my insurance. The Office staff was extremely nice and squeezed me in to see the doctor that day. I'm very pleased with the care and attention I received from the doctor and his staff. Needless to say, I now have a regular eye doctor and very grateful to Dr. Hoffman and his office for taking care of me. Also, I had zero problems concerning my insurance. read more

Rachel C. is right. The woman behind the counter with the obnoxious gaudy look from head to toe is "poor Dr. Hoffman's" wife and she has an attitude to go with it. This woman is dishonest and will try and get every penny she can out of you. For instance if you go there on your own you will pay full price as opposed to getting a referral from your primary doctor first. Then you just pay your co-pay, but she or her rude staff won't tell you that. They'll just tell you afterward to contact your insurance co. to try and get a refund. You wind up paying more this way. If you have any other financial problems with them they will never let you speak to billing, but tell you that billing is the only one that can help you. You just keep going in circles. Dr. Hoffman is very good and has a gentle personality, but I agree with Rachel C., what his wife and staff put you through isn't worth it. There are plenty of other really good doctors with staff that are respectful and honest. Think of it this way. Your exam only lasts for so many minutes, everything else will be handled by his rude wife or staff. Why should you patron a business where only a fraction of your visit is pleasant and the rest just aggravation. You should go somewhere else. I did. read more

Dr. Hoffman is a very knowledgeable doctor who has clearly been practicing medicine for a number of years. Diagnosed me within ten minutes of checking my eyes, then checked again and did a series of other tests just to rule out anything else. Very personable as well. Saw the prior reviews about his office staff, but as of now I haven't had any issues with the clerical side of my visit. I will definitely refer my family to him in the future! read more

Go to anyone else, even Costco or Target. Dr. Hoffman himself is a lovely man and capable. His staff, however, is another story. Amazingly, they will not give out the doctor's id # for submitting a super bill to insurance. They will, however, give the patient's SSN to anyone who asks (or doesn't). It's on their statements. Additionally, they do not have email set up.So any correspondence must be faxed or mailed. Unfortunately the doc doesn't read his reviews.If he did I'm sure some of his staff would be looking for employment elsewhere. They are the nastiest and most uncooperative staff I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I'm not looking for new friends, however, doesn't anyone ever learn what office etiquette and decorum is? These people certainly do not. read more

Dr. Hoffman is thorough, skilled and caring. He always puts his patients first. Our family has seen him for at least 20 years. It is true that at times his office staff are not as personable as they should be since they are the voice and face of his business. But Dr. Hoffman is the best. If you ever require the services of an opthalmologist, look no further than Dr. Hoffman. His thoroughness and skill are especially reassuring if you ever get nervous going to the doctor...my mother is one of these more "difficult" patients and we were truly blessed to have found Dr. Hoffman to take care of her. After such a positive experience I would never recommend anyone else, this after having seen numerous opthalmologists/optometrists over the years for my book-strained eyes. No experience was ever particularly unpleasant, but none compared to Dr. Hoffman. His caring manner and helpful staff made me quite pleased and confident that we found the right office for our eye care needs for years to come!! read more

The front desk service is the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL one I ever have! The bigger problem is the doctor said my kid's vision has changed; but the prescription was the same as previous one. When asking for verify the prescription with the chart; my kid was being scolded. read more

I agree with the other reviewers. I have been going to Dr. Hoffman for years, and although he is very nice and thorough, his office staff is so unorganized that it makes it not worth going there. In the past, I have had to wait for 90 minutes for an appointment, I have been double-billed (make sure to take your checkbook or other proof of prior payments with you, otherwise, this can be a real issue when you are trying to leave). I am also aware of other people that have been overbilled. Because I had gone to Dr. Hoffman for so long, I kept going. But, today was the final straw. After I made an appointment for this afternoon, had given my insurance information and sat waiting, I was told that they did not have any record of my appointment for today and that I should come back on Monday because the doctor was "very busy". I explained that when I made the appointment, the woman I spoke with specifically said Friday the 13th and it was the first time I was made aware that there even was a Friday the 13th this month so I knew my appointment time was for today and asked them to let the doctor know. The lady I spoke with had me sit back down, then called me up again and said "you're going to need to come back on Monday"--no apology or anything (the other lady sitting next to her whispered "sorry" as I left). Well, that does it for me. No matter how great Dr. Hoffman is, if you can't rely on an appointment time and on being billed correctly, why bother? read more
