Heading to the 9th floor, we headed into the Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons. The place is pretty spacious for the waiting room. Speaking of waiting room, there is a place in the back where you can aquire some "Cool, clear water" to drink. There may even be books to read while waiting for your party. Not a bad place to leave some unwanted books too. Second thing I noticed is the 2026 sign for the NEW ZAdministration Fee STARTING at $50.00. Apparently this was started just this year by the Doctors of Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons. What will new year of 2027 bring? My dad told me his insurance for this place use to be taken, but not anymore. Now my dad has to file his own insurance. Blue Cross Blue Shield is one type of insurance one has to file to their own health insurance. Why? Because when Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons file the insurance claim, it is rejected. This will depend on one's health coverage...feel free to get more information on this with the front desk agent(s). This place seems pretty expensive, but if they get the job done, then the cost is worth it. From what I saw my father's is happy with the outcome. The place's ambience was peaceful and moving like a well oiled machine. I would like to say the staff was helpful and polite. There was a mistake done and the process to correct the problem was handled swiftly. I will continue with a followup if the problem wasn't finalized within two week time spand of today. Also, when removing small growths from my lids, which is why I went to her in the first place, she decided she didn't need to wait for the numbing agent to work before she started cutting. Again a tech asked her about this and she said, "That's OK, she's tough." Curiously when I started with her, I mentioned I had dry eye and she said, "Oh I work with dry eye. We can try some things" or something of that ilk, expressing her expertise. When the punctal plugs did nothing, she told me she didn't work with dry eye. I decided she was not the doc for me.

After I saw an oculoplastic surgeon who performed several unsuccessful surgeries to treat my lagophthalmos, I decided to find someone who would approach my condition with a different strategy. I extensively researched oculoplastic surgeons practicing in the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. My research led me to Dr. Zatezalo. From my first consultation with Dr. Zatezalo, I knew he was the surgeon for me. He is kind, smart, and compassionate along with experienced, talented, and creative in surgical procedures. He clearly explained to me that I needed full thickness skin grafts (FTSG) to functionally improve the operation of my eyelids. I had read about eyelid skin grafts from various Internet websites that described it as a last resort because of its complexity and routinely poor cosmetic outcome. Recovery may take up to a year or more before the grafts blend into the rest of your face and even then, they are usually a different texture and slightly off color. Dr. Z exerted no pressure on me to have the procedure. Deep down inside I knew I needed it. I had to do something as I could not go on living the way I was, and yet, I was afraid of what I would look like after a FTSG on my lower eyelids. I was using eyedrops nonstop during the day, and at night I would awaken every few hours in pain from the dryness and had to instill dry eye ointment. I wore sunglasses indoors because my eyes barely tolerated room lights or being out in the sunlight. I was miserable and my quality of life had gotten so poor, I did not want to leave my home. Dr. Zatezalo was very patient with me and again very honest. I had read many of his patient reviews of how he gave back his patients' lives through corrective surgery. I decided to move forward with full thickness skin grafts as Dr. Zatezalo recommended. In my case, it took approximately six months before the grafts started to blend in well with the surrounding skin and not be noticeable. My level of comfort improved immediately after the surgery as I now had more skin in my lower eyelids to help my eyes close completely. I no longer needed to use eyedrops and ointment like before. I was also able to tolerate artificial and natural light without sunglasses. I had the FTSG surgery in 2018. Today, people don't know I had it unless I point it out to them. The Zatezalo Group is located in a beautiful and modern office with easy parking access. Amelia and Kimmy, Dr. Zatezalo's staff, are super friendly, efficient, and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Zatezalo to anyone who needs functional repair or desires cosmetic enhancement of their eyes. Thanks to him, the quality of my life has improved greatly. Awake during the 15-minute procedure with only numbing eyedrops and no sedation, I experienced no discomfort of any kind. I needed no pre-operative clearance from my primary care provider and no escort to or from the surgery. I also have much more confidence navigating the hazardous outside world in DC and hope for continued independence as I age thanks to Dr. Weiss. Of great importance to me, Dr. Weiss enabled me to enjoy detail and clarity in the natural world better than ever before. Dr. DiFresco is a wonderful physician. She is sweet,…read morepersonable & has a caring bedside manner (a trait which sadly seems to be lacking amongst many physicians nowadays). I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes in the waiting room before being called back & she's very thorough in her exam (she doesn't try to rush you in & out like some medical cattle call). I was so pleasantly surprised by the fact that SHE actually returned my phone call, not a nurse or assistant - Dr. DiFresco herself (and she got back to me in 10 minutes!). No other physician has ever called me back themselves, let alone within minutes of calling. She's originally from the same neighborhood in Brooklyn that I'm from, so between her sweet, calming nature & her Brooklyn accent, I felt like I was right back home with my mom taking care of me again. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. DiFresco & I'm so grateful that I found her (for those interested, this is an all female practice).
