I had Dr. Freeman as my therapist for the last year and I can't say enough good things about him. He is and caring. Every session I felt heard and understood. This was helpful bc I felt comfortable enough to be fully transparent. The method he used to treat my PTSD was EMDR and I worked really well. EMDR and guided meditation/hypnosis helped me to process my past trauma. It made me feel relaxed, calm, and serene which is something people with trauma don't experience often. I found Charles from the Psychology today website when I was experiencing high anxiety, panic and insomnia. He returned my voicemail very quickly and also fit me in for an appointment that same week. I am so thankful to have found him and worked with him because I am now doing so much better with my anxiety and sleep. We used tools such as working through cognitive distortions, ericksonian hypnosis and EMDR. We did our sessions online bc of the pandemic but I didn't find that as a hindrance. He was a good listener, asked good questions and also gave me very tangible tools to manage my anxieties. I highly recommend him if you are struggling with sleep and anxiety/panic. read more

Nice guy, empathic, and caring - means well I think but not really effective for me at least. I feel bad for giving a less than review but i feel its my duty to be honest for the communitys sake about my experience. Perhaps I'm a very difficult case and its not Dr Freeman at all. After about 10 sessions ($2,000) We Never got to the underlying cause of my chronic sleep maintenance insomnia and major depressive disorder, sleep never improved really, hypnosis 'kinda' worked when I was there but I couldn't remember anything when I was home or waking up at 3am or 4am every night. Dr Freeman was very homeopathic, hippy-dippy in a way, anti-meds (for good reason I suppose) but suggestions of tart cherry juice, almonds, and lavender didn't really do me much good enough to make a difference...nor did telling myself sleep mantras or trying to visualize myself in colors or serene destinations. Eventually he did refer me to a psychiatrist who I tried but that was an expensive experiment that didn't work out on its own merits. Many times I'd walk out of his office wondering why I spent $200 a session and almost felt worse, like I wasn't listened to fully or given any real clear guidance or direction to take away. The times I was given explicit guidance or direction it simply did not work...sleep restriction, stimulus control (go find something not too stimulating to do in a dimly lit place - wth? Do what exactly??? ), Serontonin foods, reading certain books, etc. Anyway, your mileage may vary - maybe I was expecting too much. He really is a nice guy. I was impressed by his qualifications but the reality didn't line up to my expectations and I'm in the same boat I was in 2 months ago...maybe just slightly more accepting of my situation, but still dead tired. read more

I have always been a light sleeper. Even minor stresses at work or in daily life would trigger episodes of insomnia, each of which would last 2-4 weeks. During these episodes, I would barely get 1-2 hours of sleep at night. On subsequent days, I would barely be able to function at work or spend quality time with my family. I tried variety of sleep aides and anti-anxiety medications, but they came with their own side effects and failed to give me a refreshing sleep. I then worked with Dr. Freeman for about 3 months, which made an immense improvement in my sleep quality. He is a great listener and a gentle soul. The first couple of sessions he took the time to understand my personality and core issues that lead to recurring bouts of insomnia. With my permission, he even reached out to my wife to better understand my nature and anxiety issues. He then started to gradually teach me techniques, such as , self-hypnosis for relaxation and sleep induction, ericksonian hypnosis to tame extreme anxiety and panic attacks, meditation to prevent over-thinking and compartmentalization, and quite a few other routines during the day/evening to increase chances that you go to bed in a relaxed state. He also did EMDR to relieve stress from my painful hidden memories that might not have been processed completely. He suggested sleep inducing foods, supplements, and provided useful suggestions that helped me gradually taper down my dependence on sleep aides. I have been off the therapy for about 2 months and have noticed marked improvements in my sleep quality. I would highly recommend Dr. Freeman for treatment of chronic sleep disorder and anxiety issues. It worked for me! read more

I was a patient of Dr Freeman's for about 6 months and he helped me with some PTSD and insomnia I was having due to military trauma. I really thought he was professional and timely which I consider very important he also has many qualifications and is very educated which I also consider to be a very important. He is a very patient doctor talks in a way that makes patients feel comfortable and at ease with the treatment that he's giving he discusses options prior to committing to any treatment and is also willing to use multiple techniques to try to resolve any issues that you are having. I just completed sleep therapy with Dr. Freeman and it took several lessons to discovered my sleep issues. For the therapy to work, the individual has to be open to release negative experiences. I saw Dr. Freeman a couple weeks ago because I have been struggling with postpartum insomnia for over six months. I didn't want to rely on z drugs or benzodiazepines because of what I've read about tolerance and side effects. I tried visiting a handful of therapists and even went to a popular insomnia clinic with no success or signs of progress. Finally, I found Dr. Freeman and my sleep issues have been resolved after one visit! His approach is very holistic and he gave me some simple cognitive tricks that have stopped my mind from racing at night. They are so simple that I didn't believe they would work but they have worked every time and I have been sleeping wonderfully!
