Since my yard was either covered in more weeds than grass or had none of either in several spots, I choose the long route of tilling the entire yard to remove crabgrass and prepare the soil. Al was the only contractor who either responded to my request or cared to show up after promising to do the work. He did a good job with the soil and grass seeds I bought though I eventually had to do more work in terms of reseeding and adding more lawn soil. The lawn still has crabgrass and other weeds growing but is not as bad as before and I am still continuing to reseed the lawn in the bare patches under the trees. The better but more expensive option was to plant St. Augustine grass sods after tilling the entire yard.

After about two weeks of excuses, we finally got some dirt down, not how we wanted it, but he put some dirt down. Then, came another week of excuses and he never got the grass we paid him for. Long story short, we paid him $1600 up front to buy the supplies, and he only brought a portion of the dirt we agreed to and NO GRASS. We knew he had no intentions of finishing the job, he stopped responding and he stole our money. We fired him and he kept all the money and scammed us. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT THIS SHISTER SCAM ARTIST!!!

Promised update: they came out once to do an overall cleanup to get the property on track and did a good job, though I'm no expert. From there, we were supposed to get on a biweekly service for $35 (which seemed pretty reasonable) but my service apparently was never implemented. They were supposed to come out 3 times in November and never did. When I got around to calling about it (I have a 3 month old; if you have kids, you'll understand) today, I was told they'd probably have to come out to do another cleanup. I explained I really didn't want to pay another almost $300 just because they failed to implement the plan we agreed on and was told (albeit nicely) while someone there did "drop the ball", it's my fault for waiting a month to notice and call them.
