We used Classic to cater our wedding. To be honest, we feel a bit mixed about the experience. TLDR:…read morewe wound up giving four stars because although our bar situation was a disaster, food is more important and the food was better than most other wedding food. The food - as foodies, we felt like Classic gave us very good wedding food (but it fell short of very good restaurant food). During our tasting, we were pretty blown away by the food -- all the flavors were excellent and all the food was perfectly cooked. Day of, a lot of the food was overcooked, and things were under sauced, so we missed a lot of the flavors from our tasting. The food was certainly better than most other weddings I've been to, but if I would have gotten the food at a restaurant I would have been disappointed. I know it's really difficult to cook in bulk. (FWIW though, people really loved the mashed potatoes -- and were still talking about them a week later.) We were also extremely pleased with how Classic handled dietary restrictions. We had a number of people with restrictions, and everyone was able to eat, and no one got sick. They even worked with us to make our whole menu gluten free so that all of our (many) celiac guests could partake. The drinks - our drinks were a disaster. And I think part of this is because our catering manager switched just a few months before the wedding. Our original catering manager had allowed us to create our own cocktail recipes. We love mixology so it felt very fitting for our wedding. We wanted our wedding to feel like a cocktail bar and not just have the standard wedding cocktail. However, our new catering manager pretty much lost her mind when she heard this, saying it's never done. Our conversations were weird, and we never figured out what the issues were so we assumed it was reluctance to do something different and thought they'd figure it out. However, it seems the issues were the bartenders can barely make a drink. Although we sent VERY specific recipes, i think only one of the bartenders followed them. The first drink I was given when I came down to my cocktail hour was supposed to be a lavender chamomile play on a French 75. But what I was actually given was lemon juice, soda, and gin. I literally spit it out, and had a mild panic attack that my guests were being served undrinkable drinks for our whole cocktail hour. It turns out, that only one bartender was making undrinkable drinks (and they continued to for most of the evening). Another one was making ok drinks, and one was making drinks correctly. No one could remember which bartender was making which drinks, so everyone remarked how inconsistent our drinks were. A number of times people had to toss drinks because they picked the wrong bartender. I was also pretty pissed that although we had confirmed with our planner and classic a half a dozen times that they would pass drinks during cocktail hour, they never did. Afterwards my planner said it was because the drinks were too complicated. But they could have passed wine, or beer, or prebatched drinks (which we thought they were doing). We really didn't want a line at the bar, and there was one, so a month later, I'm still fuming about the disaster that was the bar. I think had we had more time, or better communication from the new catering manager, we could have worked something out that would have worked for us and them. But, instead, trying not to piss us off, I think she gave in knowing they couldn't hold up their end of the bargain. The service - the service (aside from the bar and our catering manager) was good. All the catering staff were very kind, and rushed like crazy to finish our room flip. We appreciated that they designate one server just for the bride and groom! The process - Our process was a bit of a mess because of the catering manager flip. But, were it not for that, I think it would have gone pretty smoothly. Classic are def pros at putting on events. We were happy with the process before the switch. Afterwards, we didn't really jive with the new catering manager, who was much more rigid than the original one. We might have been less off put by this, but, she also wasn't great at communicating the reasons behind her "nos" or "yes, with reservations". Our planner had told us that your classic experience very much depends on your catering manager, and based on our experience with two of them, that seems accurate.

We were able to have food from both of our cultures represented (Argentina / India) and the food was AMAZING. Our guests raved about how delicious everything was and how fantastic the service was. Georgetta was also incredibly helpful organizing our rentals, and was super flexible when I changed our vision (a couple of times!). We loved working with her and would highly recommend them to anyone for their event!!

She helped us get better deals on aspects of our big day, figure out how to get what we wanted within budget, and mapped out every detail to perfection. Sarah made sure that everything was planned in a way that made the most sense and following her guidance led us to a day I dreamed of. When there were hiccups with a bartender being out due to COVID, she was quick to come up with a solution and I didn't even know of the issue until after the night was over. Sarah handled everything on the day-of, even transporting our personal décor, so I only had to concentrate on being with my people and soaking it all in. On top of all of that, the food was AMAZING. I would eat their short ribs for every meal and the fennel and ricotta flatbread was to die for. Everyone says you don't eat at your own wedding but Chef's Expressions made sure we got served a little of EVERYTHING so we got to eat every single dish at our wedding and they were all phenomenal. I didn't think pasta would hold up well served en masse but the pesto especially was really phenomenal. Every hors d'oeuvres, station, and dessert was delicious. Our cake was also provided through Chef's Expressions and was one of the best wedding cakes I had ever eaten. Sarah and the team at Chef's Expressions at the Manor do a phenomenal job and I would recommend them to everyone looking for phenomenal food on a reasonable budget.

Pros: - The food was delicious - The tasting was also delicious as the food is very good -The servers at my wedding were awesome and helpful - They helped create a layout for the wedding - They seemed to listen to what we wanted - They created a timeline of the wedding Cons: - They had last minute questions that should have been addressed at the tasting/ questions were asked that we had reviewed at the tasting (cake flavor, types of alcohol, etc.) Instead of asking them the month before the wedding they were asked the week of the wedding. - The day-of coordinator that was promised was invisible. - The clean up of the event was disorganized. I ended up taking items with me that were supposed to go to a point person that was known by all parties. As a bride, this is the last thing you want to have to think about. If the event coordinator were present they would have known this. - A gift was lost and chef's expressions did not seem concerned. With hindsight 20/20, I would have hired a wedding planner and waited until the year 2020 where The Maryland Historical Society will allow other caterers.

We were looking for a company with flexibility, delicious food, customer service, hospitality, and affordability. Innovative Gourmet Catering was it!! From the moment I spoke with Kim, I felt like they were incredibly willing to be flexible in order to meet our needs. I am Dominican and my wife is Midwestern, and they were able to deliver a menu that was delicious, diverse, and just what we were looking for. Seriously, the first thing that everyone we spoke to post wedding said was how delicious the food was!! Folks felt cared for, and like there were many options. The owner Maria was personally our coordinator on the wedding day, and she was amazing. You can tell she is someone who has years of experience under her belt. They made sure my wife and I left the reception with packed food to take home. The food was just as amazing the next day!! Seriously I cannot emphasize what a serious value Innovative Gourmet is. They were upfront about everything, no hidden fees or costs, and helped make our wedding incredibly special.

Maria, the owner, is extremely experienced and professional, and takes her time to personally design a menu to the exact needs necessary. The planning was very smooth and easy--all I had to do was give a general idea of what I wanted to serve, and I was given a ton of great ideas for dishes. I knew some specific dishes I wanted to have and Innovative Gourmet was exactly on point with all of those needs I requested as well. The actual event was FANTASTIC. All that guests remember from any event (in my opinion) is the food, beverages, and music, and the food and beverages were perfectly served and tasted as amazing as if it was cooked for one person (and the party was for 400 people!) I'm also gluten free, and Maria had some great suggestions to make sure that need was accommodated. I would HIGHLY recommend Innovative Gourmet, and I've decided to host a Holiday Party now that I know how easy Innovative Gourmet makes the process for me!

Dinner was for 25 + people and there was barely enough food for 12. Not that this mattered, as EVERYTHING was inedible and there were no plates, cutlery or napkins provided. I take that back, the store brought $2.00 (price still on) cornbread and $16.00 cake were the ONLY items edible. The Mac and Cheese was dry and bland. I will give them credit for it being both overcooked and undercooked all in the same batch. I'm still trying to make sense of that! The only adjective that even remotely describes this Mac and Cheese is "disrespectful". Like, seriously, the disrespect was 10/10. The chicken was undercooked and bland. How do you make jerk chicken bland and soggy? I'm actually curious. The "blackened" salmon was overcooked yet not blackened, creating another "make it make sense" moment. I immediately spat out the greens. They were undercooked, not under-seasoned but literally "not seasoned". Wait, I take that back too, if you count the dirt and grit as seasoning. They should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off. Pictures don't lie. The fact that they were sent pictures and still stood behind their product tells you all you need to know. Please, please, PLEASE do not let these people ruin your event and more importantly your special moments and memories. There are so many other respectable and legitimate Black-owned catering companies i.e. Ohhs and Ahhs, Henry's, Hitching Post.
