So I did, and the gentlemen on the phone said he would mark my account so that it would not be closed. Sure enough, my account balance (around $600) was moved into unclaimed property without any additional notice from the bank. I'm now going through the process to reclaim my funds.

Within seconds, I located the nearest Fidelity branch on my phone - less than 1/4 mile away. Fidelity was more than happy to open the account on the spot and take my money. Hey Charles Schwab - you just lost a 30+ year customer with numerous accounts - we will be moving all of our accounts to Fidelity.

Then, after spending much time on locating my account (I didn't have acct no) I was informed they only dealt in person with accounts of $1 million or more (I was a Ameritrade customer but became Schwab customer upon latter buying former). I guess it never occurred to the Schwab higher ups that many investors spread their wealth and try not to park huge amounts in one location. I next went to a Fidelity branch office where they had no problem serving walk-ins, was not snobby and not discriminatory. Also no minimum account requirements. I was never satisfied with their quality of service. Therefore, when I had a relatively complicated issue to resolve in April 2023, I decided to try the Greenwich office for a change. I was not disappointed. I was met in the lobby by Lecia Lupoli, Client Service Specialist. I explained what assistance I needed, which was to reverse a 2022 Roth IRA contribution, open a Traditional IRA, and transfer the 2022 contribution from the Roth to the Traditional IRA. All to be completed before the tax filing deadline of 04/18 (I visited Schwab on 04/07). Lecia spent the next hour working only with me to complete each of the several steps necessary to resolve the situation, until all of the necessary steps were completed. I was given a hard copy of the paperwork, and received a text confirming that Schwab was actively working to make sure the transaction was completed and settled in a timely manner.
