My experience with Kurt Oberle (High and Dry Boatworks, Pura Vida Productions) was extremely…read morenegative. He charged my credit card a higher amount that we agreed on and refused to refund it. When I disputed the excess charge, he threatened to put a mechanic's lien on my boat. I contacted High and Dry Boatworks for work on my boat. The work was performed by a third party (Barrier Islands Blasting) and I wish I had gone to them first, because the only problems I experienced came from Kurt at High and Dry. As soon as the job was finished, Kurt requested payment. Kurt was pinging me daily, asking about the payment as I tried to transfer adequate funds into Venmo. This was highly unusual, considering Kurt never specified payment terms and never sent an invoice. He explained his daily calls and texts by saying that his boss wanted him to get payment settled, Kurt is clearly owner/operator so that was a weird lie. I decided to pay with credit card. I have the text messages as proof of this: I asked Kurt "So you will charge $X to my credit card? Otherwise I will find a different form of payment." He responded "Yes call with card." A few days later I looked at my credit card statement and realized Kurt had charged a higher amount than we agreed upon. I texted him back about the error and requested he refund it. He said it was a fee and he refused to refund it. I was never notified of this fee, and my understanding was that he was going to charge $X amount as specified in the text. I considered any charges above what we agreed up on to be fraudulent, so I started a dispute with my credit card company. Kurt escalated the situation. He said he was going to put on a lien on my boat until the charge was paid. I'm sure this was an empty threat, but for it's not worth my time or energy to fight a lien over $120. I agreed to drop the dispute, and when I called my credit card company, I found that he had never even responded to the dispute to defend himself. He said when he received the funds he would send an invoice marked "paid in full." I had to contact him several times for the invoice, at which point he sent me an unlocked Excel spreadsheet with some numbers on it, and he said we had the credit card statement as proof of payment. Kurt is extremely unprofessional. He is petulant and vindictive. I would highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere - if you need grit blasting, Barrier Islands Blasting has excellent customer service. If you choose to do business with Kurt, don't pay a dime until you have an invoice that specifies payment terms. I would avoid paying by credit card, since Kurt charged us a different amount that he said he would. I'd also avoid cash, since the burden of proof of payment will be on you.

I called them and they were able to work my small issue in the same day. They really know trailers, from axels, bearings, brakes to tow and hitch equipment. Their bread and butter is boat trailers, but they had the experience and knowledge to help me out and did without batting an eye.
