We attended **The Charleston Christmas Special** at the Charleston Music Hall, with tickets coming out to about $75 per person after taxes and fees, and overall it just wasn't for us. The Charleston Music Hall itself is a beautiful, historic venue--intimate, well-maintained, and known for hosting concerts, comedy shows, and special events. The seating is comfortable, sightlines are good, and acoustics are solid, which definitely worked in favor of the vocal performances. The singers were clearly talented and did a great job vocally--everyone sounded wonderful, and there's no denying the performers can sing. However, we personally felt that the show didn't quite feel like a full "production." It leaned heavily on straightforward singing, with limited storytelling, choreography, or theatrical elements to tie everything together. This may come down to expectations and personal preference. Growing up around Broadway shows in NYC, we're used to more dynamic, story-driven performances with larger production value, and this didn't quite meet that standard for us. While others may enjoy it for the music and holiday spirit--especially in a cozy venue like the Charleston Music Hall--we would probably not attend again, particularly considering the ticket price. read more

The Music Hall has multitude of performances. The concerts, comedians, and films are excellent! The staff always welcomes you with a smile. The last band that I saw at the Charleston Music Hall was Hatebreed, a metal-core hardcore band that makes you ears bleed in the good way. Fortunately, the staff can provide you with complimentary ear plugs. Every visit to the Music Hall is consistently awesome! They have the nicest staff and the cleanest venue I've been to. There's a disabled entrance on the side and they allow you sit anywhere in the aisle seating. The walkways were a bit tight and I wasn't sure where to park my walker but they were super helpful and entry was a breeze. It's been over a year since I've been back to the Music hall but this time it was for a unique event. Major League wrestling x Don Gato Tequila! I was surprised to see how many people came out for this and they had a pretty good set up. The lines can get pretty long for the concessions and drinks, and water bottles are $5 which I find to be pretty steep. But thankfully this time we had VIP in the upper seating area so that was a different set up. The wrestling matches were very entertaining and it turned out to be a live recorded show as well. I will say that the railing on the upper deck is a bit low and if you've been drinking it can be a bit daunting to walk by a narrow path against that low railing because I can see someone tripping and falling over. Overall, it was a fun first experience for me and I felt the venue did a good job. read more

Great place to listen to music. It is not overpriced and the seats are comfortable. The seats and aisles are small though. Parking is easy and everyone that works there is super friendly. Drinks and snacks are not overly priced and they have a great NA selection. The acoustics could be better. It has open ceilings so it does echo a bit if you're in the balcony. read more

Tried to attend my nephew's dance recital. Security wouldn't let us in the building without a ticket but we only found out after they screened us. While waiting for the person with our tickets to arrive, security harassed us. Yelled at us as if we were trying to sneak in when we were just trying to stay out of the way and then talked about us as if we weren't there...saying we shouldn't be there. When I confronted the man for talking to his security buddy about us, within seconds of it happening, his buddy disappeared. Someone at security seemed to figure out how offensive they were being and tried to help us inside but an apology for the absolute worst behavior would have just been too much. read more

I saw Switchfoot here and was impressed with every aspect of the venue. First off I like the front row and I was pleasantly surprise at how great it sounded in the front! The floor is slated so even if you're in the back of the standing area you can see ok. The lighting was good and it didn't smell weird like some old venues. The location is great, near lots of delicious restaurants and bars. I recommend the "small bar" in the next door alley way for delicious pre show meal. The staff was helpful and very nice! Amazing venue... Not a bad seat in this house of about twelve hundred seats (my estimation)... Plus they have shows now with the new seats that can be standing room only in the front with seated views under the balcony overhang as well as in the balcony. They have brought so many fantastic shows and headliners to Charleston in the years past... Can't wait to see what next year's lineup will bring. I do love when the tickets were slightly less expensive but appreciate what they've don't with the revamp to modify for different acts for different folks and diverse offerings, so kudos! Although, the venue itself was fine, small but uncrowded, reasonable parking, no restroom lines. Fine aside from long bar lines The BAND WAS HORRIBLE. They have NO BUSINESS booking bands who cannot deliver. This was a 90's alt rock nostalgia tour. All they had to do was play their own classic album decently and that would have been it. The headlining band EVERCLEAR that I drove 4.5 hours to see showed up with horrid vocals so shockingly bad enough that I left after 5 songs. Other people in the parking lot had also left and for the same reason that show hurt my feelings and ruined my childhood (another patron told me in the parking lot. this is my second South Carolina Concert field trip. and the second epic disappointment in a row. I've seen two shows here this year and both of them rocked. The first show was the Allman Betts band, where we had front row seats! This was obviously... seated. The second show, Local Natives, however, had GA tickets so I guess they take all the seats out for certain events. Great show and ticket prices were very reasonable for how cool the event was. I visited the music hall during "The Rat King" dance musical, supporting our niece, Layla. It's Charleston so I cannot complain about the traffic lol. It wasn't too hard to get to and parking wasn't too bad either. The music hall is nice, small and quaint. I loved it! It wasn't overcrowded and I appreciated the security. They were on point with check in. Concessions and food were ok. The prices weren't over the top. Charleston Music Hall is the ideal size to enjoy an intimate production experience. It's an old old building with lots of character & ornate decor. We saw Tom Papas and our seats were close to the stage. A perfect spot but even if seated further back the acoustics are so good along with the intimacy, no such thing as a bad seat. We only had drinks & popcorn so I really can't comment on the food. It's a very cool spot for a Performing Arts Center. Check out the shows on offer & treat yourself. I'll definitely be back. A wonderfully engaging night at the Charleston Music Hall, a good venue for all manners of music. We saw a great show there on Saturday, February 19th by Kenny Wayne Shepherd about whom I cannot say enough as he is the best living electric blues guitar player. His six-piece band was out of this world, including Chris "Whipper" Layton on the drums, which he had played as part of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. The addition of the sax and trumpet to go along with the keyboard player was what put this band fully over the top. The lead on act of Ally Venable, a 22-year-old young lady from Texas has a lot of promise, as her electric blues guitar playing was quite good, her singing a bit sketchy at times and her amp was loudly distorting. She came back on and played when KWS was playing, and sounded so very, very much better when plugged into KWS' amps. read more

This was my first time here. We saw ZoSo. Great all time band. Glad to get a seat up in the balcony but the sound is great regardless of where you are sitting. Bathrooms are clean. Take a minute to look at all the musician pictures on the wall of who has played there and you'll see some of the greats. Cost is reasonable. About $35 a ticket after fees and taxes. Note it's a cash free venue with a beer, wine, seltzer bar. They sell water and sodas too. Pretzels, popcorn, and chips. Once the shows over, walk around downtown, go to the piano bar, or grab a bite to eat. read more

Just an excellent and historical venue to enjoy a concert in intimate surroundings. They recently upgraded some of their services which included offering "box seats" with concierge service. We loved it. No need to go to the bar for snacks or refreshments. Just use your phone, make your choices and in minutes orders arrive. The seats were roomy, spread out and had drink holders. We went to a fundraiser here at the end of 2019, an annual MUSC fundraiser I think, and a variety of different entertainers performed. Alison Kraus made a surprise appearance as well, can't beat that. We also saw OAR here, and they have lots of very instrumental songs. The sound was amazing. We did have some very noisy neighbors, who seemed to think they should talk the whole time. The beverage options here vary from craft beer to sparkling stuff to soft drinks. We are so lucky to have this venue in the heart of our downtown area. The vibe is nostalgic with the old style velour seats and they're very comfortable. After attending several different kinds of shows here, its seems there is not a bad seat in the house. The acoustics are great and they offer a bar at each level offering beer, wine and snacks. Just had the pleasure of attending Puddles Pity Party and it was so much fun. The intimate setting at CMH makes it such an pleasant experience with the performers close enough to enjoy without having to rely on a jumbo tv screen. It's so nice to know you won't have to fight the crowd and push your way through to get a glimpse of the performers you paid good money to see. Seats are assigned and that spot belongs to you for the duration of the event. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Although, i have never had the pleasure to go inside the Charleston Music Hall or even be in Charleston, SC, i bought tickets to watch humorist Jeanne Robertson via live stream. She was performing at the music hall and i am very happy it not only allowed people to watch her, while being socially distant, but also watch her in the comfort of their own homes. Wonderful idea and the live stream worked very well, i only lost about three minutes of the act since i lost connection at the very beginning when she was being introduced. Jeanne Robertson was hilarious! That was to be expected as she has become one of my go to people to help me have a good laugh. i first saw a show by her when i won tickets to see her at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert, OH. My family and i also follow her on youtube, and have watched so many of her videos. She is amazing! Although a good number of the material she used i heard during her time here in Ohio, they were still side splitting funny a second time. She also had some material i had not heard before, so it was a good mix for me. I have to say i hope she comes back again to my town, as i would love to have a good laugh again. First off, the Charleston Music Hall is probably the most diverse venue in Charleston. The location is amazing, right in the heart of Charleston with tons of food options in walking distance to indulge before or after an event. I have attended movies, concerts, and stage productions and can honestly say, there is not a bad seat in the house. Most recently I had the pleasure to attend the Charlestion Christmas Special. A local production with local performers. Everything about the performance was amazing. The dancers, singers, and actors were all extremely talented. The music hall was easy to get to. There was plenty of parking close by in the garage. There was a generous amount of seating, but not too much. The bathroom was clean. The seating was comfortable. We came here last night to see Red and Starset. I saw Starset in 2019 at the Music Farm and I much prefer CMH venue! I loved that there were seats for general admission. I had no clue what to expect when coming here so I told my 9 year old daughter that there was a possibility we'd have to stand the whole time (in which she was not ecstatic about). The staff here was so helpful too. The bands put on a great show. Sound was great and we loved being able to sit. I'd for sure come here again. This is one of the best concert venues I've been to. No one was rushing you or pushy. The staff was considerate. Also when I got downtown Charleston my phone's Internet was moving extremely slow and my tickets wouldn't download. The staff member that was scanning tickets let me know that if I gave the staff member at the window my name she would she would be able to print my tickets. I gave lady at the box window my name, and my tickets were printed almost immediately. Both staff members were smiling and did not seem annoyed, which was so refreshing. Just saw the best concert of my life here tonight. "An evening with NEEDTOBREATHE", all acoustic, and oh so intimate. This beautiful theater holds a little under 1000 people. We sat in section E, row 15 and still felt close enough to reach out and touch them. Well, if I walked up to the stage perhaps, but you get what I mean. I'm used to huge venues. I've been to Woodstock '99, JazzFest a few times, and plenty others including indoor shows. Truly, nothing beats small scale, especially when it's a band who has changed your life like NTB has for me. Charleston Music Theater has hosted some great concerts in the past couple years. I'm on their email list now and only wished I lived anywhere near here. I drove 800+ miles to get here tonight and only wish I had bought tickets for NTB's other two performances here this week. The setting was unreal, and I spoke with many people who said the same thing. For such a huge band to settle down and play such a small venue gives you this high on life feeling like you're great friends with the band members. But I digress if I continue talking about my love for NTB, so... If you live in this area, you must go see some of the great shows coming up here. If you don't, it's worth the drive. Especially if it's a band you really like. They serve alcoholic beverages, and you can snuggle in and sit down and enjoy some great music. I heard one person compare the sound to another venue and how much better the other venue was, but she wasn't complaining and neither am I. Charleston Music Hall is walking distance to other great sites in downtown Charleston. Plenty of nice and reasonable hotels to stay at nearby too, so just park your car and enjoy the fresh Charleston air. Walk on up the steps and in the doors to Charleston Music Hall to relax and enjoy a great performance as we did tonight. read more

My wife and I came here last week to see Kevin Smith show off his Jay & Silent Bob Reboot movie. I ordered the tickets back in November, and our seats were three rows behind the AV booth. Luckily, the row in front of us either never sold, or they didn't make it because of the flu. Seats are pretty comfortable and there was enough leg room for this tall guy and his wife. Sound quality is great too. Getting in to the venue was very easy too with the visitor center parking garage about a block away. Security was friendly with the usage of their wands, and we were scanned in rapidly with time to spare. There's not a lot of room for the merchandise counter in the lobby with the bar right there too, but everyone made it through safely and without an issue, because of courtesy and common sense. read more

Came from out of town for the Jump Little Children show. Was very happy with the venue. The ushers were all kind and helpful, had a good selection of drinks and the parking was easy. There are a few garages but we ended up parking on the street. Our seats were first row balcony which I think probably had the best view and sound quality. The staff is VERY particular about each person sitting in their exact seat, but you can always shuffle people in your party around once they walk away.
