My wife (Keri) and I arrived earlier than the other 4 guests. MJ met us at the docking area and walked us down to the yacht. I say yacht because Paul corrected me when I said boat. If the vessel is longer than. 32ft it's a yacht. As we were boarding Keri asked Paul if he lived on the boat LOL. Paul went on a 5 minute speech about the subject of him not living on a boat. His question to Keri was "Why does everyone think I live on a boat?" Keri had no answer. Paul continued to express reasons why he does not live on a boat. He stated many times that he lives in a house like most people and not on a boat and if he did it would be a yacht like the one we were on now. Paul's 5 minute speech was by far one of the most hilarious things I have heard in my life. I brought this up so everyone understands Paul has personality and his personality was the perfect fit for the occasion. He is very knowledgeable about Charleston's history and extremely knowledgeable about anything and everything about sailing. It is rated 5 stars for a reason and we recommend it to anyone interested in doing a sailing tour when visiting Charleston.

The. Best. Paul was absolutely fantastic and gave us a real life experience on his sailboat. We got to steer, pull on ropes (sorry I don't know the lingo) and sit up front for the best view. Feet in the water, photos for days and lots of tips about sailing and Charleston. The best experience we've had in a while. If you're thinking about it, just stop now and book with Paul!!!!! read more

Last weekend, MJ & Paul took my friends and I on an amazing tour. They made us feel right at home and the trip was priceless. They made the trip very special for us by teaching us everything we wanted to know about Charleston and by keeping us in the boat after a few cocktails. Great people and a great time. This experience was amazing! Four of us were able to spend two hours sailing around Charleston while we enjoyed the sunshine, scenery, and stories. We booked a 2 hour BYOB afternoon private boat cruise with Charleston Sail Harbor for my sister's bachelorette trip. Paul was an amazing sailor with his great sense of humor and vast knowledge. All the girls had a great time. It was the most relaxing experience in our entire trip! read more

We did the Picnic & Swim for my friend's bachelorette party and we were not disappointed. First, the weather could not have been any better, slight breeze and sunny. Paul was great! He was knowledgeable about all the attractions and history of Charleston and made sure we had food/drinks! He was awesome and really made the day for us. Captain's Paul and Mary Joan treated us to a amazing tour of the Charleston harbor. They shared their knowledge of sailing and of Charleston as we sailed throughout the harbor. As sailors they are masters of their craft and teachers they excel at telling you exactly what is going on in the boat, where we were headed, and what it would take to get us there. We have operated a charter yacht from Ripley Light yacht club since 2012. Our sailing charters have given 1000's of people a great time experiencing the local waterfront and harbor scene. We are fully licensed and insured for your marine adventures.

Meet the Manager: Paul M.

I have been sailing for almost 50 years, starting off in Europe and then in USA since 1995. My father was a yachtsman and taught me to sail. We completed many overnight trips to France and along the South Coast of England. I have taken most of the boating and navigational courses offered by the US Sail and Power Squadron and in June 2012 received my US Coast Guard vessel operators licence. I enjoy meeting people and sharing my love and passion for all things nautical. I served in the Royal Navy for 3 years and have worked in a local boatyard.

INCREDIBLE WEDDING FINALE! From the first phone chat with Capt. Paul, I knew this would be the perfect finale for our daughter and soon to be son-in-law's wedding day. After making the very difficult decision to shift to a micro wedding, protecting the well-being & safety of guests due to the pandemic, we wanted to give them a truly special experience . A private, Sunset Harbor sail at the conclusion of their wedding day was the ideal opportunity. With a quick Google search, I found outstanding reviews for Capt. Paul Mitchell and called the phone number listed, it was his DIRECT number. I shared about my daughter's ceremony shift and we had the booking completed in under 10 minutes. I called again a week later and asked if he could help me organize an additional surprise for the sunset launch. Everything was moved to the next level when Capt. Paul helped me arrange an ambush launch, with members of their wedding party who came secretly to town to be there to celebrate them, at the marina with Capt. Paul and his beautiful boat "New Horizon". He walked me through every step, with exact directions, to have the group pre-assembled for our arrival, including where the group could park. On the day of the big event, he invited the group on board so when we arrived with our daughter & new hubbie, they were blown away! Capt. Paul even displayed the "Just Married" banner on "New Horizon" we had sent with the ambush group to add to the amazing, festive atmosphere. In addition, I had asked about some environmental safe confetti to blast for the photos and to celebrate, and he was able to refer me to the perfect rice paper, water soluble confetti that highlighted the whole mood & is an added show stopper for the professional photos that were taken. (Our professional photographer wanted his contact information immediately to refer him to other brides, Moms and wedding planners.) Our daughter & son-in-law said that Capt. Paul is such a great personality. He shared some wonderful information about the harbor, history of Charleston and sailing. He allowed them to relax and just escape all the bustle of the day. They shared that this was definitely the best highlight of their day, after the "I Do's". As the M-O-B and their wedding planner, it was the BEST and easiest arrangement & booking I did. All booking on line and your payment is not processed until the sail has concluded. (For everything that occurs in this wonderful experience, the cost is exceptionally BUDGET FRIENDLY.) As mentioned, I called his cell phone, 3 times and he answered every time-no phone tagging or voicemails, 100 % accessible. We even did a trial drive to the marina and walked directly to his boat (two days prior to the wedding, when we arrived in town, to try-out the route from our brunch location and to view the parking location for the surprise group) it was PERFECT! In fact, Capt. Paul was there at his slip, with "New Horizon", prepping for a group's sail and greeted us with such warmth, a sincere feeling of kindred spirits. We cherish his passion & skills for sailing that he shares with others to create lifelong memories. (Bonus, you may bring your own snacks & beverages for your sail and you have a private restroom & shower below -- I did not find this type quarters with anyone else when researching. ) Can't wait for an anniversary sail with him that we will join next year with our new Mr/Mrs! My husband and I did the 2 hr sunset harbor tour for our 1 year anniversary! Paul was funny, had a large knowledge base about the area, and is an experienced sailor. We really enjoyed it. read more
