The sunset was breathtakingly beautiful & we saw multiple pods of dolphins resulting in the coolest pictures! Captain Ryan's pup barrow was especially welcoming and we loved getting to hangout with him as well! Ryan also showed my husband how to safely get into the hammock at the front of the boat and he loved getting the close up experience with the dolphins! After a bit of research, we ended up on Captain Jerry Slayton's boat for a two-hour sail. Captain Jerry (who is USCG licensed and ASA certified) provided a short safety orientation and invited us to roam the craft as we pleased. We had the absolutely best time! The Captain was not only a top-notch sailor, he was also a top-notch guy, personable and fun. His sailboat was beautiful, comfortable, and spotless. What a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. It rained like crazy while we were out, which made for an even more exciting, interesting, and beautiful experience. The six of us highly recommend a sail with Captain Jerry. You will love it!

Captain Gresh was very personable and incredibly knowledgeable-he's a 7th gen local, so he truly knows his stuff and has grown up on this water. Taking a private charter was a great experience. We ended up having the whole island to ourselves! Morris island itself is so wonderful, and we also saw dolphins, oyster beds, and blue crabs. Learning about the history of the island (as well as Gresh's connection to the island and family history) was really neat. We were worried about weather, but Gresh was very easy to stay in contact with throughout the morning before our tour.

Our concierge at the Courtyard by Marriott Historic District recommended a private tour that would…read moreknock our socks off to a beach that is only accessible at low tide and gets us as close was one can get on land to the historic Morris Island lighthouse. We met Gresh, the operator, at a dock outside of Charleston and he took us by motorboat through estuaries that were lined with live oyster beds and teeming with wildlife like brown pelicans and other birds. We actually saw a pod of bottle nosed dolphins playing near the boat! Spectacular. Gresh anchored off of the beach, which was prominently featured in the movie "Glory" as the battle site at which over 1000 black Union troops perished (and are buried there!). My kids and I walked the entire beach without encountering another soul on a brilliantly sunny and beautiful afternoon. We found lots of pretty shells and sand dollars to take home. Gresh was great - his family has been there for generations, he clearly loves the area and cares deeply for its environmental integrity and is a terrific tour guide. Do not miss this experience - we will remember it for the rest of our lives. It went all too quickly!

We took the 2 hr tour and saw ships, forts, the Battery of Charleston, dredges, the old Navy base, dry docks, and a dolphin, etc. Captain Chris tailored the tour to our interests specifically and our recollections of the area from decades ago. I highly recommend. First there were just the 4 of us so no crowds for Covid worries. Secondly , it was tailored to our interests... we covered a lot of ground in 2 hrs! Third, the cost was less than if we had taken a bigger ship with a herd of people and waited around as they fished, sight saw etc. this small ship was perfect and fast enough we saw everything we wanted and we're back before we burned up from the sun!
