Usually very calm and quiet in there with the exception of open swim days . They also have a competition pool that is 100 meters. That one is 7 feet all the way across . The therapy pool goes from 3 to 6 feet . Both are heated . Locker room facilities is very nice and clean. They have a full time lady there that just cleans all the locker rooms and bathroom all day. Keeps the floors dry. There are lot of showers with HOT Water and locking dressing rooms also. There are always life guards on staff and they are all friendly. They also have classes for swimming as well as baby floating classes and special needs. I pay 30 a month for unlimited use and I just added my husband for an extra 10 a month. They have day passes also. Definitely check this place out!

You also learn how to be respectful and take on responsibility like an adult. As a veteran I watched carefully as the instructors honed in on teaching leadership to the young men straight out of high school. I also enjoyed the experience they give to veterans. Most of the veteran students are coming straight from the military and idi instructors mostly being veterans help make the transition from military to the civilian workforce easier. So in my honest opinion the staff is great and the experience will land you a dive job so as long as you put the effort into it.

We never received any information via snail or email despite repeated phone calls and emails. She told me about it Christmas day and called every week afterward to try to get information on the class. We finally decided that we were going to get a refund. The day she called, she was told that the class started the following evening. Wow! thanks for letting us know. Furthermore, the lady who handled the refund passed the buck onto her fellow employees and offered no explanations or apologies and has to be the rudest person in a customer service setting...ever. She made the associates at Wal-Mart seem like the concierge at a 5 star resort. So why am I glad they were rude? My initial plan was to get my open water diver certification to see if I liked diving. I am a tradesman and underwater welding was going to be my next adventure in commercial construction. I choose to take the open water certificate at IDI in order to get a feel for the school. I am glad I did. I never even made it through the door and have decided that they will not be getting my $20,000+ in tuition and fees and it didn't even cost me a dime. I guess my money isn't as good for them as it is for me. Thanks rude customer service lady! Anybody know of a good underwater welding school?

The pool water feels cold when getting in but becomes fine within minutes of full submersion. The little strip of open air between the room the pool is in and the locker room though... Our daughter talks happily about her teachers daily, and loves to tell us about new games she and her friends have come up with. The teachers have helped our daughter learn how to sit at the table for community meals, listen attentively at story time, and learn to regulate her big feelings. DIA is a special place with a supportive faculty and engaged parent community. Highly recommend!

My daughter went there for 7 months (2007-2008) when she was 3 years old. Awesome school, the best…read morein the area (I looked at 3 other schools in Mount Pleasant, and DI topped them all). Lana liked it so much she still introduces herself as a "dolphin"! that was her class. The school is big, well equipped inside and outdoors, full of extra curriculum classes (you pay extra about $35-$45 per month) and overall the atmosphere is buzzing with a positive energy. Lana had young teachers. All very knowledgeable and great with kids. One downside they changed 3 times while she was there. You get reports every day. You can see the kids art creations posted on the walls next to each class. The school has lots of events and field trips (one every other week). One big plus for me was the fact the school cooks fresh, quality and nutritious food every day. They will accommodate health special needs. There was great deal of involvement from parents who are expected and highly encouraged to participate. We were meeting at least once a month (great chance to get out too and make new connections) to discuss activities for kids and ways to help the teachers. About tuition payments: The school is relatively expensive for South Carolina, close to $900 a month for 4-6 years old, but is well worth it. DI is one of the few NAEYC accredited schools in the state. The tuition needs to be paid 2 weeks in advance every other week. When you enroll you're also asked to pay for the last 2 weeks of the calendar year (i.e. you pay this year for June 2009) Bottom line Daniel Island Academy is an excellent pre-shool choice.
