I'm not sure where my review went, so I'll repost it. This mall is either dead or dying. The closed shops are walled over so it looks like long corridors. The one restroom I could find was on the third floor, by the small food court. The inside is spacious and bright, so if you're just wanting to walk around in air conditioning with a stop at Starbucks, then this is certainly the place for you. read more

Let's be honest, what is there to REALLY do in Charleston, West Virginia other than shop? Humm-I'll let you ponder on that question for a moment. While I was there for several hours, my friend and I decided to check this out since it was 5 mins away from my hotel. Looking at this from the outside, Charleston Town Center does not look like a mall. I didn't notice it was a mall until we parked at the *garage and walked inside. Honestly, I was just trying to get to a Macy's. This mall once held over 300+ stores include, but now many will notice that some of the stores are closing and going out of business, leaving this mall only holding on to the "basic" stores that you will normally see in another mall. Charleston Town Center features an array of varies stores including Macy's, Bath and Body Works, shoe stores, jewelry stores, and Victoria Secret. The mall offers 3 multi-level stores. Some of the escalators were out of service, but the elevators did work. This mall is not crowded and easy to maneuver. It has a bit of everything for everyone! Be aware that when I was here, Macy's was robbed the night before and it wasn't the first time. The crime rate here is pretty sad and I hope it can be worked out very soon! The mall also has a full service eating joints that are fo'sho worth checking out. They also have a nice children's play area inside near the Macy's side. *The parking garage is $1.75 and offers tons of parking. You pay going inside. Very convenient! If you're in the area, it's a great place to check out and pass time. Charleston doesn't offer a lot of options to check out but this is one of them! read more

Well I guess I am bias, I remember when they was building this mall. My daddy did a lot of the tile work that you walk on the floor for the original mall...over 30 plus years ago. This mall is the only mall in the Charleston area, so if you want to shop...here she blows! I did notice that they are getting some nice high end stores in the mall. That is a nice change. It does have the typical mall stores, JC PENNEY'S, SEARS, MACY'S, HOT TOPICS, SPENCERS, then they have Build a Bear, Victoria's Secret, Books a Million, Gamestop, and of course the food court but they could improve in that area. Black Friday shopping in WV while visiting in laws gave me something to do. It has for the last few years. This mall is fairly bare boned compared to malls in larger cities. It sort of feels like going back to the 90s with the stores they have available but I guess that's just what does well there. You've got your Jc Penney, which is actually my favorite place for jeans and T-shirt's, Spencer's, Hot Topic, Bath and Body Works, Journey's, and the like. There's a standard food court too which I've never eaten in. There is a Starbucks too. It's basic. Also.... gotta pay about 2.00 to park which is odd. read more

As malls go, it's not bad. Losing anchors like most other malls and competition from the internet is hurting it, but there's still a lot of activity and great stores and people at the mall. The food court has great options, especially the Asian offerings, and a salad stand, in addition to being well kept and clean. I would ignore the people bashing it on crime and safety. Things can happen everywhere, and I'm sure there have been incidents at this mall, like many others. That said, I have been there with my kids, and work associates, to shop and eat on dozens of occasions per year going back 2 decades, and I've never witnessed ANY violence there. In addition, I've never had one homeless person accost me for a handout. Now randomly around town outside the mall, sure. But not so much as in the parking lot. I would take a hard look at the negative reviews, and the people posting them. Axes to grind for maybe all the wrong reasons must be suspected. Wrong place, wrong time? Pretty much the only place to shop in Charleston. It really isn't worth visiting this mall if there was more to do in Charleston. That being said, it is a pretty standard mall. The more expensive stores are on the ground floor. Apparently the Sephora and Coach stores are new, but it brightens the place up. There is a food court on the third floor that has your basic food court restaurants. There are also more expensive restaurants along the street, such as Outback. You can park in the parking garage for a ridiculously cheap amount. It angered me that you actually have to pay to park there, but once I found out how cheap it usually costs, I laughed. I don't know if the price has gone up, but when my fiance lived here it was $1.75 for the entire day. We parked across the street from Sears at the street parking. They were metered for 50 cents every half hour for a maximum of 2 hours. I would be shocked if you spent more than 2 hours here. Again, this is nothing out of the ordinary, but it does its job for the people of Charleston. read more

This is a great mall...well it's the only one in this area. They have just made it great with a 7 million dollar renovation and the addition of new stores. This has always been a good mall but the renovation has made it a more inviting experience. Come here for an all day shopping spree or bring your tablet and/or laptop and enjoy the new area in the center of the mall with power hookups and Wi-Fi from Starbucks. They've added carpet to the second floor which has quieted the place down a bit. They opened the area around Starbucks up so that mall traffic call flow freely. They recently added stores including White House Black Market, Coach, Sephora, and Francescas. Enjoy mall staples such as Hallmark, Things Remembered, and the Gap. I'm always visiting Town Center Mall because I don't know anyone besides family in Charleston and I do get sick of sitting around all the time when I'm in town. That said, this place is the perfect distraction. I spend most of my time in the bookstore and FYE, but love wandering around this place for 2-3 hours, just people-watching and enjoying the chance to stretch my legs. Being from Columbus, I've been to bigger malls, but I really like the intimacy of this one. It reminds me of the way Westland Mall used to be. The only difference is that Westland is virtually dead and TCM is still alive. If you're used to navigating parking garages, you'll be in good shape getting in and out, but good luck finding a parking space when this place is busy. read more

After a recent remodel, you have to question where they put the money. They spruced up a lot of the floor and outsides, but failed to make the mall feel clean. The carpet tile is drab and there is still a lack of stores for men. It is clear they are trying to being in the upper class in an area where that is vastly the minority. read more

Was smacked by a security guard while sitting down drinking a coffee and on multiple other occasions a guard followed me the entire time I was shopping, had grabbed my son and screamed at me when he was throwing change in fountain, and I have been accused of shoplifting, asked to empty my tote bag and backpaand screamed at and told to leave the mall for no reason. nothing was done when I reported incident and the higher ups refused to pull cameras or talk to witnesses. All done while being pregnant. I was told that pregnant women shouldn't be sitting down in the mall. read more

This mall is not very big. I walked through the entire mall in about 15 minutes. It has all the bare essentials that one would expect from a mall: a food court, a Macy's, and mall kiosks. However, the arcade makes me cry. It had 4 machines in it. read more

I'm originally from Charleston and remember the mall's opening wayyyyy back in 1983. It was a huge deal back then, and it was only the second "real" enclosed mall in the state of West Virginia. The developers who did the mall saw the trend back then where malls would open in the suburbs of cities, and the downtown areas would dry up. Their idea with this one was to open the mall in the downtown area of a city, forcing people to go downtown, therefore (in theory), keeping the central city area alive while also having a mall. The flaw - the mall was designed to have too many stores, so everything on the main streets downtown closed up and moved into the mall anyway, leaving downtown deserted for quite a number of years to come. Also, they built a parking garage instead of a parking lot, so, people could just leave their car and walk directly into the mall instead of parking outdoors downtown and walking either direction to the main streets or the mall. In other words, they had the basics of a good idea, but went too far with it and it really did change forever the "vibe" of downtown Charleston in a more negative way. That being said, it's a mall. As someone else said, it has the basics of any standard mall in the U.S., although the food court has slightly fewer choices than some. Other than the once wonderful 3-level waterfall in the center being chopped up in favor of vendors (???), there has been little renovation. The fact is, if you're in Charleston, there really isn't another real mall to go to, so if you need to shop in one, this is your ONLY choice whether you like it or not. But it is downtown near the hotels and in a convenient location, and it's not the worst place in the world by mall standards either. read more

Great, midsize, enclosed mall. As past reviews stated, you find your typical stores, Sears, Macy's, and American Eagle. But there are quite a few treasures in the set up shops located throughout the middle walking area between stores. You have everything from a trendy sunglass hut, to your Dippity Dod's ice cream dots LOL, (not sure about the name sorry). However, I must say the food court does have a need for just a few more places IMO. Maybe even consider during holidays and bigger events to also allow food vendors to set up for the higher traffic, and to provide a little more variety. But due to legality and contracts they may not be able to do that. Also remember, there's a few places to eat downstairs: Dairy Queen, Starbucks, a pretzel place, and several little sweet shops, for something just a little different. If I could mention one place; SARKU Japanese Restaurant, practically the only reason I come here. LOL Amazing food, and you can't beat their "upsale" ability and style, (they get me every time!) and the way they compete with the surrounding vendors to get your business, LMBO, there's your dinner theater! read more

Every year for my birthday day month I was able to receive a free Charleston Town Center gift card as a thank you for being a loyal customer. Now the Charleston Town Center mall has "changed things" on this program, now you have to buy a 20 dollar gift card, to receive your free "20 dollar gift card" I would much rather got back to the free 10 dollar the buy a 20 dollar GC come on town center. The Charleston Town Center Mall was the largest urban mall east of the Mississippi River when it was constructed in 1983. It served a large role in an attempt to revitalize the downtown area under the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority. It has over 930,000 square feet of leasable retail space, and in 2007 was at 98% occupancy. It is currently operated under Forest City Enterprises and witnessing a transition to accommodate commercial office space (BrickStreet Insurance is moving in to the former Montgomery Wards area with 500 employees). The mall serves the greater Charleston Metropolitan area of 300,000 people. There is a Marriott Hotel and the Charleston Civic Center adjacent to the complex, in addition to being within walking distance of other downtown districts such as Capitol St. Given the sheer size of the mall (it covers approximately 12 city blocks), I wish there was more structural transparency that promoted circulation through its axis between streets, but getting around is rather simple. As Charleston grows as a city I am certain there will be more high-end stores seen moving into the building. read more

This place is the antique jackpot. Multiple rooms filled with all kinds of antiques and clothes. They also have a fine selection of clothes and costume jewelry, records galore, and, of course, loads of knick knacks. The Mall of St. Paul is my favorite for vintage household items, though they also have clothing. Parking is super easy, too! read more
