The detailed explanation of the car's history is interesting. I would love to know how the furniture made its way from Paris back to Indiana and to the museum. The second floor is a "Main Street USA" mock up of businesses that used to exist in Peru, but with much smaller footprints. Perhaps nostalgic if you grew up here, but seeing old glass pharmacy bottles didn't interest me much. The exhibits looked like they were from an earlier time. Several of the second floor exhibits from pioneer days seemed to be missing items and the objects behind the glass did not match the printed descriptions of what was supposed to be in there. The third floor is circus related things that are calling out to be better displayed and described. One elephant skull was accompanied by a fascinating explanation. I was left guessing as to the background and significance as to most of the rest of the third floor items. The gift shop has some merchandise that has no apparent connection to Peru or to history. Not sure how it ended up there. There was only one employee present on my three visits and he staffed the front desk. One one day he was asleep at the desk (really, sound asleep). On the two other days, he was watching cartoons (sorry - anime) on a laptop computer. If he needs something to do, he could dust the exhibits on the first floor while keeping an eye on people entering.

The area is rich in history, most notably the birthplace of Cole Porter and the winter home to a number of circuses in the early 1900's. The first floor of the three story museum holds furniture and a Cadillac once owned by Porter. Local artifacts, Mastodon fossil bones, and other area antiques are also on display. Mock local storefronts on the second floor hold local items and tell the story of early life in Peru. The museum has done a remarkable job of preserving historical items and telling their stories. Circus memorabilia is arranged on the third floor with stories about the various troops, people and animals. I liked the use of the former department store to hold local history. The walls seemed to welcome visitors and tell stories. The Museum requests a $5 donation but changes no admission fee. The clerk is friendly and describes the contents. A small gift shop is available near the entrance. An elevator is available to move from floor to floor. Plan 2 hours for a visit. The museum is a must visit for those interested in local history.

We learned about Honeywell, the Wabash Cannonball and much more. I found information on the Courthouse. The second floor hosts an interactive learning center and a play area for kids. Boisterous toddlers were having fun playing. A wall of displays holds information about influential local figures. A manager, Cody, was engaging and gave us an area guide with a County map and told us about the origins of the Museum. The staff is friendly. A conference room is available on the first floor. There is a small gift area with books, shirts and other Wabash gift merchandise. The museum sponsors events throughout the month. An EV charging station is available out front and lots of free parking. This is one of the nicest local museums that we've visited in Indiana and was worth the stop. Plan about two hours to visit (and longer if you bring kids). Museum memberships are available.

The park outside was cool and we enjoyed the special planes and aircraft in their collection here. This museum is also a Harvest Host.Grissom Air Museum in Peru, IN. We stayed in the parking lot which had 2 entrances, so an easy pull-through with our travel trailer and was mostly flat. A large 5th wheel also stayed the night and there was plenty of room for both of us. It is easy off-on IN Highway 31. There is some highway noise, but it died down in the evening and we slept well. It felt safe, maybe the proximity to the Air Base helped with that feeling. And we loved having the views of the aircraft displays out of our camper windows. We did patronize the Grissom Air Museum. Truly the little museum was well-done and felt way more personal than a big national museum. The guys who work here were all very knowlegable and happy to share all kinds of tidbits about the displays with us. The walk-through park outside was cool and we enjoyed the special planes and aircraft in their collection here.

Rochester, Indiana's Times Cinema, now more often known as The Times Theater, was originally built…read morein 1923 and opened as a movie house known as the Char-Bell. It was built on the site of a former auto dealership with some of its bricks coming from a nearby demolished college. It started as a cinema for silent films, became a two-screen cinema, and throughout its history functioned in a variety of ways for the Rochester/Fulton County community including hosting of live events, movies, performances, and in many other capacities. It closed in 2014, however,by 2016 a movement began to re-open it as a sort of community hub. While there's still much restoration to go, thus the 4-star instead of the 5-star, this is my favorite kind of movie house space and it's even more delightful that The Native Nook is right next to it. In some ways, the space reminds me a lot of Indy's Emerson Theater, though I give a slight nod to the Times Theater in terms of the way it is being used and its overall potential. The Char-Bell name came from its original owners - Charles and Belle Krieghbaum. It was originally a 780-seat theater. In 1942, it came under new ownership and the name was changed to The Times Cinema. The cinema actually closed in 1973, however, it re-opened a year later with owners and in 1979 the cinema was split into two screens. In 1985, a fire damaged the cinema and it closed briefly. However, it was repaired and re-opened. It closed on January 1, 2014 due to the inability of the owners to afford the cost of switching to digital projection. Just today, the Times Theater is hosting a fundraiser as they continue to work on renovation and restoration. Currently billing itself as a "community and entertainment center," The Times Theater uses its marquee often for special events and community announcements. These days, it also is reminding me of Franklin's Artcraft Theatre. I've always loved spaces like The Times. Of course, it's kind of a fantasy to own an older theater one day. For now, I'll simply continue to support those who actually do. Here's to new life for The Times Theater in Rochester, Indiana!

The wine list ranges from dry to sweet, with the sweet wines being mostly fruit wines. We ended up with a couple of bottles of the sweet summer Riesling that we really liked. We also enjoyed Hawaiian Mist which was a pineapple flavor in the fruit wine list. They've done a nice job with the atmosphere in that it makes you want to sit down and stay awhile drinking wine with some friends.
