We stopped here on our way north with some family and the staff was incredibly helpful and kind (offering the kids treats to feed the cats and opening the barn for us), and we had some fresh pie that was amazing. We also recommend the apple slushees, which are like frozen cider but nothing but pressed apples with no added sugar and were incredible. The animals in the barn (cats, pigs, goats, donkey, chickens, rabbits) were super cute, especially the kittens! The kids also loved the playground and the whole property was well maintained. Would definitely recommend as a road trip stop for anyone heading north! read more

Our most recent visit today was pretty disappointing. TLDR; hours online are NOT accurate and service is poor. We have stopped at McClure's for the past four or so years every time we take a trip to Michigan heading up 31. Today, we planned the same and verified the opening times on Google, Apple, and Yelp. However, it is not correct on any of these websites apparently and they were closed. We arrived, and walked in, as the building was unlocked and appeared to be opened, and were instantly asked if we could be helped. We mentioned we were just hoping to get some apple sauce, and the worker replied that they were closed. We expressed our confusion at the sign and at all of the 3 websites indicating that they were open, to which the worker rolled her eyes and said "Google does what Google does and you have to always check the website directly," while walking us to the door in a condescending and rude manner. We understand now that the hours were not accurate and we should have called; however, how aggressive and defensive this worker was at a simple mistake was quite off putting. We have never had awesome customer service here, and quite frankly the wine and cider is the worst we have ever tasted so we typically avoid, but we do enjoy the applesauce and their souvenir shop, but this experience really disappointed us. You're much better off to visit Harvest Moon Foods just down the road - their applesauce and baked goods and ciders are way better anyway and their customer service is great! read more

As a fourth stage cancer patient I don't get out much. So when the "manager" mocked my visible handicap, I was shocked and embarrassed. The service was lousy (at best) probably because said manager was also belittling her employee wich made it hard for her to do her Job. Super cute pit stop on US31 outside of Peru, Indiana. McClure's is not only an orchard with u-pick offerings but also a mini petting farm, hard cidery and winery. In the front store as you enter the property, you'll find full meal offerings, knock knacks and tastings of both the wine and cider. The first two cider samples are complimentary. We tried a few of the ciders and the honey infused lavender (in gin barrels) and Happy Holidays cider (clove, Orange, cinnamon- great served warm like wassail) stood out the most. Both were ideal as crowd pleasers- not overly sweet or dry. They had at least a dozen hard ciders to choose from and full bottles were for sale starting out at $6. They also offered growler fills. In both the front tasting shop and the apple barn, you'll find baked goods available like apple dumplings, apple pie and bourbon apple pies. They also have other treats like apple butter, apple salsa, apple butter syrup, honey and maple syrup. We purchased an apple dumpling and caramel sauce for $5. The farm is very kid-friendly with a petting barn (donkeys, potbelly hogs, Heritage geese, goats, etc) and a play ground between the two key shopping buildings. Lots of delicious juicy semi sweet ciders. Multiple wine and pies. Cute shop for this or that, but the bar area is where they have purchased samples. Some nice tart cherry cider, sweeter peach cider and frozen slushies are just like drinking a perfect apple You can even pick your own apples from the orchard during season on weekends. This is a perfect stop on Route 31. read more

We stopped here after seeing the sign on US 31. It is a very cute place. There is a store, bar, barn animal viewing, and the orchards. The restrooms here were nice and clean. We stopped in to get a couple bottles of hard cider and leave quickly. It took a long time to get a person to tell us about the cider options and then to check out. read more

Over all the property is beautiful, I went with my husband and daughter and son in law. We had a nice time on a beautiful day and got great pictures. That being said, we ordered a bbq pork sandwich, a tortilla with a tablespoon of chicken salad lost inside, a snack sized walking taco, and 4 5$ hard cider drinks. No sides. The total with tip was 53.67. Unreal. Everything was so over priced it really soured an otherwise nice experience. read more

We enjoyed our stop at McClure's Tate Orchard. . It's a nice place to visit in the fall. They offer a nice big selection of Apples and other treats. We were disappointed at the lack of support for mask wearing. Looked on their ears but not on their face and there was no signage asking for customers to wear masks either. read more

Their Apple pie is awesome. Whether it's bourbon or plain. It's scrumptious. I made a mistake and held the pie in the bag without securing it stayed flat and tons of goodness slide out the pie and into the bag so gentle warning handle with care. We used to stop here years ago. The food was wonderful and service superb. TIMES change our menu was on writing paper with two choices for adults and one for kids. Which by the way save your money buy Kraft Mac and cheese at least you would get better serving size. And no clums of powdered cheese. I got a chicken salad that tasted terrible. McClure's is much more than just an orchard - they are also a winery and restaurant. The typical orchard stuff is all up by the Apple Barn, where you can buy pecks of apples, cider, preserves, apple butter/sauce/etc., as well as cute knick-knacks. When I was there, I picked up 1/2 a peck of tart apples and forced myself to buy an apple pie...really had to twist my arm on that one. Closer to the road from the Apple Barn is the restaurant (adorably named The Apple Dumplin), and the wine tasting area. This place does a fine assortment of hard ciders - both draft and bottled. They run the full gambit, from sweet to dry, and have some interesting flavors as well (the jalapeno cider is muy excellente). They also have a spiced holiday cider that I'm looking forward to enjoying once the weather gets cooler. I didn't have any food from the restaurant, but I can tell you the piece of pie I ate for breakfast today was delicious. read more

I stumbled upon this place by chance during a solo road trip up to South Bend. There isn't much on US-31 between Indy and South Bend and...well, to be honest...after a lot of pre-trip hydration I was reaching emergency restroom break level. I saw a billboard for McClure's and quickly pulled into their parking lot. I entered a building with a cafe sign posted outside, and walked in to find a quaint country store. I sheepishly asked the first employee I saw if they had a restroom. I'm sure she knew I was some random person just in off the street, but she graciously pointed the way. So I didn't want to be "that person". Ya know, the person who just uses a business's restroom and leaves without buying anything. So even though I was in a hurry, I resolved to buy something - anything! - even just a few dollars as I was on my way out the door. I walked back into the store and saw so many cute little gifts! Everything from jewelry to home decor to lots of jams, jellies, and baked goods made right on the property. After debating for a few minutes on what to get, I bought a jar of honey from McClure's hives. By the time I left, I was disappointed that I didn't have time to explore the place more! This would be a fun Saturday or Sunday adventure to take sometime. I hope to go back to McClure's! read more

This review is about the food at the Apple Dumplin' Inn (a part of McClure's Orchard). While the pulled pork sandwich was tasty it was a bit expensive considering the chips on the plate clearly were just poured out of a discount grocery bag. The BBQ sauce infused with Apple Butter was delicious although it was a bit disappointing not to be able to buy a jar in the attached gift shop. All of that said the side of applesauce was legitimately tasty (which one would expect form the orchard). Moving on to dessert you have your choice of apple pie (microwaved), apple dumpling (microwaved), or apple crisp (microwaved). Microwaving day+ old desserts is something I would do at home, not necessarily something I expect for a $7 dessert menu. You get three stars because anything with apples in it is well made and tasty, but it's a bit expensive for what essentially amounts to average food when taken as a full meal. read more

Jerry is truly the most nicest person , we had a flat tire and not only did he give u a place to park the camper while we went to get a new tire but he also gave my granddaughter and I fresh warm chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven! This was a little surprise in a long stretch of highway. We stopped in hoping to get a few fresh picked apples but unfortunately they are not in season yet. They had 2 cute shops that we actually purchased a couple hard ciders, fresh salsa and homemade blueberry applesauce. I'm excited to try it all. We decided to stay for lunch and we were so happy we did! There homemade cinnamon applesauce that came with each meal was seriously amazing. I had a cheeseburger and chips. Doesn't sound like much excitement but it was amazing. Also, flights of hard ciders (which I have never seen). It was our first time to the orchard. We went into the apple barn to ask about picking apples. I grabbed a bag and asked the lady working if I used this bag to pick apples. She stated the guy out there has bags and she went on with her business. So without knowing what to do we assumed we could use that bag and pick apples. When we went to pay the owner was extremely rude saying we should've asked first (which we did). We were traveling and had always wanted to stop here because it looked so fun. We finally did on a nice fall sunny day and we had our dog with us. We thought we would let our dog stretch when out from the barn came running some other dogs at our dog. The owner of this establishment came out and told us to leave, no pets allowed. So needless to say, was not a good experience so I recommend anyone traveling with a pet not to stop and those who do, I would think twice. These people are not nice! read more

Can't say nice enough stuff about this place. I almost missed it on the internet state. It was cold and raining and I just wanted a hot meal. The food was delicious and they had a cup of hot apple cider for me. The apple cider is made on the property. They also had wines made on the property. I left with two bottles and was not disappointed at all. The little shop was nice as well. I will be going back thru and plan on stopping again as there was much that I didn't get to see.
