Fortunately the building was purchased by the Wabash Community Foundation and it's being cleaned and restored. This is a beloved landmark to downtown Wabash. The leg in the bucket was a litle graphic, but hey, that's the way it was done before modern anethesia. While we were there, a horse was being delivered for the carriage house, so one could see how the doc got around for his house calls. I thought it interesting that Dr Ford built the Christian Church across the street---making all of the bricks himself by hand. Now that is industrious! The gardens around the house were immaculate! Nice place to visit!

A sculpture with a quiet fountain stands outside the entrance. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Inside the entrance are paintings and memorabilia honoring the Honeywell family. The building houses a theater, a classic 1950's gymnasium, meeting rooms and even a restaurant. Art is displayed on the walls. The facility offers performances, movies and other cultural events throughout the year. Tours of the facility are available. Parking lots surround the facility. This is a fabulous facility for the small town of Wabash.

Beautiful Charley Creek Gardens is a lovely place to take a stroll, and it is handicap accessible…read morewith paved paths. There is a steeper hill that adds an incline to access the gardens, so just be prepared for this before you enter the waterfall/wildflower/labyrinth area. In the summer the waterfall is running and the flowers have bloomed and it's the best time to see the gardens. It feels a bit like wandering around a secret garden and is usually very peaceful. Right now it's not as peaceful as there is a lot of construction going on around the gardens that is loud during the day. It's a great place to take photos. There is a map of everything at the entrance of the gardens/the trailhead. It's a short trail and loops back around to the entrance. A small creek runs through the trail. Parking is available at the trailhead/entrance of the gardens. There is a hedge maze, art sculpture, bridge, labyrinth, and wildflower area along the paved trail.

I visited Wabash, Indiana's Holiday Inn Express & Suites during a recent event. This was a one…read morenight stay. This hotel offers a fitness center, a business center, and an indoor pool. The indoor pool has a ramp to it for accessibility and a chair that can help those with mobility issues get into the pool. For a relatively small hotel in a relatively small city, I was surprised and impressed. We ordered an accessible room for me. The room I got has solid accessibility including a roll-in shower, mostly accessible interior items, and a bed that worked well with my wheelchair. There was also a button you could press for entry, though I did find the door has a serious stick to it. The hotel offers free WiFi that I found worked well and consistently. As others have noted, the hotel is adjacent to a fairly rundown strip center. There's a fairly new Culver's across the parking lot and easily within walking distance. There's a Kroger that's even closer. The hotel itself is easy to find during the day, though a bit hidden in the parking lot. I was checked in easily when I arrived, though I had to laugh a bit because when I got to my room it clearly hadn't been cleaned. The bed was not made. However, I must say, they addressed it quickly and with multiple apologies. I would say employees here are a huge reason to stay. They were friendly and helpful throughout. It's worth noting I was in room 107. I was able to access every place I wanted in the room from my wheelchair. I will note that the roll-in shower has a bench that is fairly far from the actual shower head. I'm not sure if they expect that everyone with a disability is getting help, but I definitely had a harder time reaching it. Other than that, it worked well and the roll-in shower worked nicely - the floor was definitely wet when I finished. I found the bed comfortable and I slept well. There's an in-room refrigerator. There's an ice machine and vending machines on the first floor at the end of the hallway. Overall, this was a good stay and there's no doubt I'd return in the future.

I had the world's best smoothie at Modoc's. The market is named after the infamous local circus…read moreelephant that escaped in 1942, running through the county for five days. Modoc had just performed her last show for the American Circus, when she escaped. The inside of the market is homey with lots of space to work, read or enjoy a chat with a friend. I ordered a smoothie. The clerk told me which smoothies were made from fresh fruit, so I ordered the blackberry smoothie, which came with whipped topping. They also serve coffee and pastries. I shopped around the market and read Modoc's story as I waited for my smoothie. The market sells their own coffee blend. A children's play area with books is available to keep the kids entertained for a bit. My smoothie took about five minutes to prepare and was fabulous...creamy and fruity. If I lived closer, I stop by everyday to try all the flavors. Modoc's is worth a visit. There is limited street parking.
