If Mel opened a shop closer to where I live, it would be my go-to shop!…read more My girlfriend and I were driving through South Dakota on a road trip and right as we went down into Chamberlain to see the nice view of the Missouri river, a "low oil pressure, shut off engine immediately" warning displayed on my dashboard. I pulled over right away opened the hood to find my battery smoking and it smelled like rotten eggs (which is a sign the battery is in a terrible place). This happened later in the evening so we called a local tow service and they dropped it off at Mel's with us hoping he would be able to take a look the next day. This was day one of our week long trip and with a low oil pressue warning we were a bit worried about our situation. I arrived first thing in the morning at Mel's shop to speak with him about my car. I told him the situation and then Mel asked for the keys and went to work right away. There weren't many places to go around his shop (that I knew of) so I hung around while he looked at. After a few minutes he found that the oil pressure sensor was bad. He replaced that and then worked on replacing the battery as it was obviously not ok. When he finished replacing the battery we went for a drive on the highway to make sure the voltage and the oil pressure were fine. It is my understanding that in some cases where the battery has the characteristics as mine did in this case that the alternator could be overcharging it. The voltage and oil pressure were consistenly fine on our ten minute drive so it seemed the only problem was the battery had just met its time. The bill was very reasonable and we had no further problems the rest of the road trip. It was almost nice in some ways to have my car break down when it did so I was able to bring it here to save on repairs. Mel is plesant to talk to, seems like a smart guy, and helped us out in a pinch. As long as Mel is still in business, don't worry too much if your car happens to break down while passing through Chamberlain.

After a 3 hour drive, lots of suggestions regarding what we should see during our stay in the area, and some other funny stories, we arrived at the Nissan dealer, unloaded the car, and he insisted on dropping us at our hotel so we were safe. AAA called Tony for us after we totalled our windshield while, against the good advice of the…read morelocals, hunting pheasant with our SUV on I-90. In no time Tony was at our side with our decommissioned land boat on the back of his truck. The AAA rep had asked Tony to take us to a small town just west of us about 30 miles, to a GM dealership no less, thank the Grass Gods of South Dakota that it was Tony who picked us up. Tony informed us of the fact that the GM dealership doesn't actually carry windshields in stock, they have to order them, which can take upwards of 5 days. Tony recommended a friend of his in not so near Pierre, which was still within the AAA 100 mile tow range. Boy, Tony was right, the next morning we drove the one block to his friends auto glass shop, and had a new pheasant guard installed within 3 hours... Thank you Tony, you saved us a hell of a lot of time.

When I found it would not pull my camper I went to trade it at a different dealer and they told me that it had been damaged on the right side. This was a surprise to me as well as it never mentioned it. Yes the damage had been fixed but this still shows up on a Carfax report and I feel effects the trade in value. Also I found out the truck came from an auction in New Mexico . I know by law they didn't have to disclose this because the dollar amount was not enough where they have to report it by law. We are on our second cross country vacay from Seattle to New York in our 2018 Stelvio. In…read morepreparation for this drive, we had the oil/filter changed, as well as purchasing 4 new tires. We also had new brake pads and rotors. So it was "weird" to see the warning light turn on "requiring oil change" while in Rapid City, SD. Oil setting on infotainment showed low oil..so we added 1qt. According to car manual, after 5min, gauge will reset to current oil level. Followed manual instructions...oil still showing low. Not knowing better, we slowly added another quart. Warning went out, oil level between white indicators-perfect, right? Nope! After an hour of driving "excessive oil" light shows up. We are 300+miles from Sioux Falls, (nearest authorized Alfa Romeo mechanic). It's a Sunday, nothing is opened. AAA will send a tow, but only 1 of the 3 of us will be able to ride the tow truck...what are the other 2 of us to do???? wait in the cold, windy rest stop? We decided to drive (NOT RECOMMENDED!!) We went 140 or so miles before we were too scared to continue. Luckily, at the Vivian Eastbound Rest Stop a female worker gave us info on a mechanic (Jordan) at Charley's Welding Auto Repair in Kennebec and King's Inn in the same area. King's Inn was available (Nick, owner) then suggested Henriksen Auto Body Towing in Presho (Dave, owner & Don our tow truck driver) 24/7 Everyday!! All arrangements were made & executed to perfection!! Huge shoutout to Dave, Don, Nick & Jordan!! We truly appreciate your kindness, speed & expertise!! Our ratings to all of you is a 10!! I headed west, intending to stop only when I had to, and stop on a hill to "push start" the bike. When I got to Chamberlain, I saw the sign for the Honda dealership, and stopped out of desperation. The service was fantastic! I had expected them to have to order a starter (if one was even available for a 25-year-old bike), which would cost a lot of money and several days delay. Instead, they pulled a set of starter brushes off their shelf that had been there for years, and rebuilt the starter for me. I was amazed to have the repair done within a few hours, and at a very reasonable price!!!
