This office is a complete scam, and the dentist, hygienist, and wicked office manager all work together in the same disgusting, predatory routine. They put you in the chair, create panic, claim something "urgent," and pressure you into two extreme options--one being removing the entire tooth. Then they insist insurance "won't cover it" so they can demand full payment upfront. I later confirmed with my insurance that the real in-network cost for the exact procedure code is $1,035. This office charged $2,500 while pretending to be in-network. My insurance also explained that for an in-network dentist, the amount on the insurance fee schedule is the maximum they're allowed to charge. In-network providers are contractually required to accept that allowed fee as full payment and write off the difference, not "balance bill" patients or bypass insurance altogether. Yet this office charged 2.5 times the allowed in-network rate while luring patients under the claim of being in-network. THIS IS FRAUD. Nothing about this place is ethical. Their behavior is corrupt, greedy, manipulative, and disgusting. The hygienist and office manager are fully involved--they know the script, they push the fear, and they enforce the cash-grab. Expert care! In so much pain, wasn't able to eat on the same side for several days. I thought I had a sinus infection. Turned out to be an abscesses tooth. Dr Hong was able to get me in the same day and started treatment (root canal). Gave me antibiotics for the infection. Antibiotics tore my stomach up and called in early Saturday morning to leave a voice message (see if I could change your another antibiotic) Dr Hong picked up on the first ring. His staff is very pleasant and helpful. All around a very good experience. Majority of the pain was gone after first night and totally gone after the antibiotics kicked in. I've had to go to Dr. Hong three times - all for root canals. I was a bit apprehensive as the previous root canal I had done was done by an Endodontist whose skill set and chairside demeanor would be best characterized as a Barbarian. However, Dr. Hong is a highly skilled Endodontist - very professional and efficient. In the three visits I had with him - during two of the visits - I felt absolutely no pain. The third visit - I did experience a bit of pain and discomfort - and he took immediate steps to eliminate the pain. Dr. Hong is not the talkative type while he is working on you. I like to know what is going on and prefer to have my dentist give me an ongoing commentary as to what we are doing at each step and how we are doing. I guess you could make the argument that he is focused on what he is doing - and doing a good job - which is why he is not talking much. Highly recommended! read more

Overall experience was mediocre, x-ray machine was dirty, waiting room was a mess, the assistant was as charismatic as light post, and don't even get me started on Dr. Hong. At the end I tried to ask a question and what I got back was a smirky, rude, passive aggressive response which was totally uncalled for. Not sure if he has personal issues going on in his life but taking it out on the patient is very unprofessional. The secretary however was very kind and caring (Charlie take notes). I had a horrible experience when I got a root canal on this tooth ten years ago that has made my fear of dental work grow immensely. The root canal wasn't done properly so I had to get a second one done on the tooth. I was really tense when I entered Dr. Hong's office. The receptionist was super sweet, and she started the process of putting me at ease. Dr. Hong came in and finished it. He was really funny and made me laugh so hard that the tension I felt went away. After getting injected, I felt pressure, but that was it. Nothing else to it. Definitely different than the first time I got this procedure done. All done in less than an hour. I got referred to Dr. Hong for an emergency root canal. I had an international flight that afternoon, and a situation that could've been a nightmare went more smoothly than I could've asked for. Dr. Hong was able to clear out time for me, and for that I'm grateful. His office is essentially a renovated business office, but it's done well. The warm lighting, carpeting, decor, and even air fresheners instantly make you feel comfortable. The waiting area is filled with a million magazines, and the receptionists are friendly and courteous. As another reviewer mentioned, Dr. Hong doesn't talk very much, and overall during the procedure, I was told what I needed to know and not much more. There was a monitor playing a slide slow that explained, pictures included, what was going to happen during the procedure, which I really appreciated. It had cheesy clip art, but it educated me while was waiting for the anesthetic to set in. Each procedure only took 40 minutes tops, and Dr. Hong was constantly concerned as to whether or not I was comfortable. From hearing the other reviewers talk about horrible past experiences, I'm glad that I was able to go to such a professional the first time around. It felt like he was multitasking with other patients though, like a well-oiled machine. The entire practice seemed optimized for efficiency. In the end, Dr. Hong's practice knows that nobody is happy to be there. They make the visit as quick and painless as possible. I would definitely recommend. read more

The GOOD: I was greeted by a very friendly front desk staff when I arrived. I'd Googled Dr. Hong and based on good reviews, went in after my doctor noticed some excess tissue around the gum area. Turned out to be an infection which Dr. Hong identified. 1 week ago, he cleaned the canal, put me on antibiotics to treat infection and scheduled a follow-up. The BAD: The bedside manner was definitely up there with one of the worst I've had. Fortunately, I've had some great dentists! Dr. Hong didn't care about the fact that he was actually drilling in a human skull which was quite uncomfortable. While I did not feel ANY PAIN, jerking my head around and "speeding" through the work definitely didn't leave a good impression of him for me. Whenever I asked a question, he was also quite sarcastic. I'd asked if he could look at a took I had a similar concern with. Though the x-rays were taken and the concern was mentioned to the Dental Assistant, he would not give me any feedback and instead told me to go to my dentist and if my Dentist said I needed to come back, only THEN would he see me. What sense does that make if I"m already sitting in your chair??? When I asked him if the infection cleared, he sarcastically responded "if you break your arm, it won't be healed in a week will it?" I'm not stupid and don't appreciate the comments. While I appreciate that he had a sense of urgency in doing the work, I don't think that it is a good fit for me to return! read more

Dr. Hong is the best in the business. I have had 2 root canals recently and both were some of the most difficult situations possible. My primary dentist was amazed at Dr. Hong's work. Apparently the roots of my tooth were some of the longest ever seen. Not only were they very long, but high up into my sinus cavity they took a 90 degree angle! I have never had a root canal, in fact no kind of oral surgery except my wisdom teeth taken out in college so to say I had some trepidation about a root canal is an understatement. My root was infected so I had to have two procedures a week apart with antibiotics in between. I can truthfully say that while I would not call a root canal a pleasant experience, it was totally painless thanks to Dr. Hong. And both procedures were only about 45 minutes. You can tell Dr. Hong really knows what he is doing. They even gave me a hot towel for my face afterward. horrible experience! i went here for a re-treatment on my six year molar and at the time he did my root canal everything seemed fine. Six months later I started working for a dentist and realized he had perforated the roots of the tooth with the gutta percha and the tooth needed to be extracted because it abscessed again! Dr. Hong has performed several root canals on me and, as far as I know, done a great job. However, as one other patient reported, his billing practices and promises rate very low. I talked with him for a two day weekend, while I was in great pain. Although my insurance was not effective until four days later, he said he would work it out. When I was in his office at 8am on Monday, he refused to consider my insurance. He quoted me $1,650 and said I had to pay right then or he wouldn't do anything. I paid and he started the root canal. Later he agreed to file the insurance with a date after the insurance started. The amount covered by insurance was much less than he charged me. The insurance company sent him the portion they covered for me. When I asked if he would refund me a portion of the difference between his price and the insurance price, he sent my refund check back to the insurance company and told them he made an error on the date. The insurance company said if the service was completed after the insurance effective date, it would be covered. I went in after the effective date for the final treatment, but he is denying that visit was part of the overall service paid for. Since I was not charged anything more for the final visits, and he performed additional work, I am certain that the service performed after the effective date of my insurance was part of the $1,650 I paid at the initial visit. It is sad that a dentist I liked and respected so much cheated me out of the money that my insurance company covered for the services rendered. read more

Dr. Hong was knowledgeable, worked fast and had light hands. However, he is very disconnected with patients. I had to sit for a long time on the dentist's chair while he waited on several other patients at the same time. I do not trust his office staff. Dr. Hong's office used to be a provider for FepBlue Dental but it is no longer part of the network. When I set up an appointment, the woman I spoke to asked about my insurance and did not mention anything about not being in the network. And so I went to see Dr. Hong. And when I was already sitting on the chair after waiting to be seen for more than 15 minutes, an admin support came and told me the cost ($1950 for a root canal). She also said my insurance requires that I pay upfront. Since I was already sitting on the chair and thinking that this is how my insurance works with non-providers (just found out then), I went ahead with the procedure and paid upfront. Later, I called my insurance and they told me that this is not what they said to the woman. It is not the insurance's policy that I pay upfront but rather this is Dr. Hong's policy. Also, as a non-provider, they charge more than what an in-network provider charges, How deceitful!!! I will never go back to this office. Beware before you go in. For me, trust in my doctor and the people in his office are important in my choice of doctors. Dr. Hong only cares about money. He is not the only endodontist around. Shop around first. read more

Who wants to see an endodontist really? Today was my second visit with Dr. Hong (both times involuntary :)) but I have to say that the guy knows what he is doing. I have only felt the desire to write one or two other reviews for my experiences but the experience today made me want to share. The staff and office are professional and efficient which makes the entirely unpleasant experience that much more tolerable. While I'll agree that Dr. Hong may be somewhat a "to the facts" type of individual, there is no question in my mind that he knows exactly what he is doing and has a sincere concern that what he does is to my benefit. I can easily recommend Dr. Hong based on my two experiences in his office. Only reason he did not score 6 stars is because he could have been a bit more communicative regarding what he observed and the proposed course of action. read more

You'd think someone who is about to make good money off you would be more than happy to answer your concerns but not Dr. Hong! Got finished with a double root canal today with Dr. Hong . While I'm glad the experience is over and done with I have to say I can't imagine feeling more trusting with an endodontist. No , he is not chatty - in fact I'd say he's like a mechanic -- but your tooth or teeth WILL be treated like a Mercedes . However he is very personable & is truly concerned about your pain level & comfort. He seems to enjoy his work , liking to get it done & boy , while he's doing it you can see he's truly making sure he's done a good job. I had a crummy, gross abscess & infection . "I can not complain about the root canal that Dr. Hong performed on my 14 year old daughter" he made her comfortable and repaired a poorly completed root canal by another dentist. My dismay and frustration is the billing practices. I paid for the procedure since I have a PPO. I filed a claim as did his office, which received the check the after proving his office was paid twice, then I was refunded. Now, today I received a bill, two years later with a payment demand with incorrect telephone numbers. Only to have the office say it was a mistake. Cannot recommend Dr. Hong enough. I've had three root canals from Dr. Hong. He is the utmost professional and very concerned about his patients. He spends time educating. He is a very kind person. I am very afraid of needles and he put me at ease using a spray in my mouth to numb my gum first. He then used the numbing agent in stages. He has successfully gone through all three of my crowns to perform the root canal without disturbing them. Overall he is very efficient and a skilled master craftsman. This is my 1st time ever writting a review for "yelp". I just had to let everyone else know, especially those fellow "dental chickens" like me, what a wonderful office this is! Dr. Hong did a root canal on me approx. 8 mths ago and I was extremely satisfied! His entire office is professional, friendly and highly competent. I had a bad experience previously with a regular dentist and had developed severe dental anxiety. As anyone who has experienced this type of situation can attest to, I was understandably very suspicious of dental procedures and dentists in general since that bad experience. However, since the experience at Dr. Hong's office, I'm slowly overcoming my fears. I just finished another appointment with him today for him to "retreat" a previous root canal that had been done in another state. Again, a first class experience. Honestly, no one likes to have dental work done, but if you go here at least you'll know that you're in good hands. I sincerely felt myself relaxing just because I knew that I could in Dr. Hong's knowledge & experience.
