I have eaten at Charlie's numerous times and only once did I have a small issue, but they quickly corrected it. The reason I am leaving a 5 star now is because I spoke with Colby the manager on duty at the Charlie's chicken across the street from my office, He and I made arrangements for a veteran who is homeless to have a hot meal and allow me to pay for it. My daughter and I stopped in today, Sat. July 19th 2025. 2:40 pm. We both ordered 3 pc chuck meals. 1 w/mashed potatoes/ gravy & baked beans and 1 with mashed potatoes/gravy corn dodgers. Our chunks were warm, a bit salty. Potatoes, thick and cool. Gravy, cool. Baked beans, pleasantly warm. Dodgers cold and stale. Mt dew- great. Lemonade-good. As for service.... 2 young men. The one helping us, barely spoke and acted as if we were inconveniencing his day by being being there. There were two other customers in the lobby. A family of 2 adults and 2 youmg children. And a.single male. Went to the womens restroom, POOP on the toilet. Not necessarily the employees fault. Used the mens room instead as a hover craft. For the money spent. Will NOT go back. We have ate at Charlie's Chicken since the came to Joplin, Mo we were there today the food was awful and it was cold. we ordered a 2 pc chunk dinner with 2 sides potato wedges they were not what you always serve they we awful and cold same for the chicken and the fried okra. the serving size have gotten small the chicken pc was the size of a quarter the dinner roll was the size of a quarter and hard as a rock, My husbands order was the catfish which was always so good but not today it was so small of a order and it was cold also his sides were the potato wedges his was awful also they were cold and his okra was cold we tossed most of our lunches we were so upset we just came home. We may never come back its a shame because we have been there since it opened. read more

My First & Last. I recently moved to the area and stopped by on my way home from the dog park. I appreciated the drive thru since I had my pups with me. While I didn't expect home style chicken fried in a cast iron skillet I did expect something more than 2 stars. I ordered the #5, five chunks of white meat chicken + 2 sides. $9.81 without a beverage seemed a little pricey but I had high hopes which were soon to be dashed. My first bite of chicken and I'm pretty sure my blood pressure spiked due to the overly salted breading. While I wasn't overly concerned how the meal would affect my blood pressure the amount of salt used in the breading made the chicken inedible. Solution: peel/scrape the breading off of the chicken which made it edible but still rather salty. Unfortunately this defeats the very reason for ordering friend chicken when you have to scrape off the crispy coating. The cole slaw & baked beans were better than expected. They tasted pretty darn close to homemade. The dinner roll was good although I passed on the little tubs of "whipped spread" & used butter while eating the meal at home. Overall I found the portions to be a little on the small side, perhaps had I eaten all the breading the sodium content might have resulted in drinking more iced tea to wash it down and as a result I would be full. The photo shows one chunk devoid of it's breading and the amount of breading I removed from 4.5 chunks. Left on it's own the chicken would have been a single star but the sides & roll brought the rating up to a 2. I won't be back. read more

I've never seen such terrible service that so disregards the entire reason a restaurant is in business. We ordered 4 liver dinners online at 6:58 pm for the Joplin, MO location with a pickup of 7:45 pm. We checked in at 7:40 pm and a man came out a few minutes later to say it would be either 20 minutes to cook liver or they'd refund. We told him we'd ordered in advance with plenty of time to have them prepared, and he agreed and said he'd told them in plenty of time. We said we'd wait the 20 minutes, and 30 minutes later our order had still not been filled. At 8:15 pm we thought we'd go in and check on the order. The hours on the door said the lobby was open until 8:30 pm, but the door was locked. We called in, and a woman said it was slow, so they'd closed the lobby(?!). We went to the drive through to wait, and the man came to say they were going to get the meals ready. I watched as the woman filling them, tall with long brown hair and a head-set, went purposely slow and finally came to the window like no big deal. When told we wouldn't go without checking them, she said "fine" and left. She might as well said "who cares." It was obvious in her manner. No apology. Nothing free for the delay. Nothing but indifference and absolute disregard of the entire reason they are in business--the customer eating their food. If the server doesn't want to work, she should be replaced. If the restaurant doesn't actually want to prepare food or be bothered with customers, they should close the business for good. The food is not good enough to make up for such miserable service. This isn't the first time we've had a lousy experience there. They won't be bothered with our business again. read more

Great place. I had never heard of Charlie's Chicken, apparently this is the only one in Missouri. There was a lot of choices ( I had the catfish) and the food was great, so was the staff. They seem to stay on top of cleaning and wiping down the tables especially because of COVID. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is pricing. It seemed a bit high for what is fast food dining. I do recommend this place if you are passing through. read more

Chicken was okay, called in my order 20 minutes before hand. Ordered a 12 piece meal all dark meat for pickup. Got home only 11 pieces of chicken and no rolls. Called up there and told the manager who was cordial at best. No sorry for your inconvenience, nothing. I ordered through the drive thru window and a three piece dinner and if I remember right it said that you'll get 'either' a wing 'or' a leg, I got both with a thigh and it was small too and the dinner roll was dry and simi hard. Yep. I one star any restaurant that has front house staff that is so incompetent as to prompt a Yelp response to it. Seriously. Bad customer service is a plague in this little corner of the middle of nowhere. I stopped in a little after 1:00 on Super Bowl Sunday. The dining room is full. I knew I'd get good fresh food. I like the food there. The kid actually plating the food was so slow I wondered if this was his first job and who failed in training him. While I was waiting I the told the other kid, bored and leaning on the register with his head rested against his hand, that they were out of everything but trays as we came in. He gestured toward the fountain drinks and said, "We should have some stuff over there" Is it the training? Is it in the freaking water? Is it a raging opioid crisis or is ok to smoke a joint in break now? I want to know. The front of the restaurant should always be clean or in a state of being clean. People that work serving people in any way need to act accordingly. Quit accepting bad service Joplin!!! We deserve better for our money. Don't you think? Don't worry Charlie. Loved this place and was surprised by the bad reviews. Customer service was top notch, meal was delicious and atmosphere was nice. Was offered free pie on Tuesday which was nice. Portion sizes we thought were great. We actually took food home, which made the price worth it. Honestly it was cheaper than most fast food restaurants. Ask for a senior discount and got .15 cent's off a 47.00 ticket.ask for Management and he pick up a dollar out of the tip jar and threw it on the counter and said that well mae it up. They aren't exactly rude, they all just seem shy and antisocial! I'm not sure what is going on with Charlie's Chicken employees but at least the food is tasty. If you happen to pick up takeout or hit the drive thru window, be sure to ask for anything you might possibly need (such as condiments), they really don't pick up on things like that here. The chicken chunks are juicy and tender, easy to eat. Great for a bad tummy, but you have to peel off the breading. The mixed veggies are super tender and our son, who's a picky eater, ate all his veg from here! The blackberry dessert is awesome. The catfish has no "fishy" taste, breaded perfectly.
