We've eaten here probably 5 or 6 times total. It's a nice CB. Good staff and typical CB food. My one complaint is my food is never hot. Barely lukewarm. I'm not sure what's up with that but I prefer hot food. The store is nice and well stocked. Really only complaint is lukewarm food. read more

My wife had the turkey & dressing and I had the chicken 'n dumplins with corn. We both enjoyed our meals and the service was good - better than it had been in the past few years. Our server, Regina, was very nice and helpful. She had our food out in about 10-15 minutes. When our food arrived, it was hot and fresh. The portions were great as well. I love the style of the restaurant. The lighting is very satisfying to me in a way that I cannot describe. I also love how they have a small store at the entrance. We stopped in for breakfast on our way back home and I got over easy eggs, bacon and decided to try the loaded hashbrown casserole. I'd recommend sticking with the regular hashbrown casserole, as the loaded version had a slice of cheese on top instead of shredded, which didn't quite work for me. The biscuits and gravy were decent! That said, the service was excellent--everyone was incredibly friendly, and our food came out quickly. The interior has a charming, nostalgic vibe, with lots of pictures on the walls and little games on the tables. Be sure to check out the gift shop on your way in or out. I'll admit it's been a few years since I've ate here. Used to frequently when I worked next door and loved it. We came home n because we were tired from moving/packing and just wanted a good homecooking type dinner. We got the meatloaf, country fried chicken and catfish. It was all so bad we couldn't even finish despite being starved. My kids usually devour catfish anywhere they didn't eat more than couple bites. Not to mention the prices for such food was insane (2pc catfish w 2 sides 17.00) I know several nearby catfish places much less for 3 and 4 pieces that's delicious This was by far the worst meal we've had in some time. The date was April 8, a Monday, and we had left Austin in a hurry the day before because it was claimed that a million people would be there the next day to have a better view of the eclipse. So we headed north and had lunch at the Cracker Barrel in Joplin, Mo. While having lunch by a window, we saw two people in the parking lot looking up-- and we realized IT WAS ECLIPSE TIME. Terrible service. It was my grandson's birthday and they didn't even bring him free dessert. And, yes, we did mention it to the waitress.

I went there with my four granddaughter's on Nov. 8th. It was awful. I ordered chicken fried chicken, and it tasted old and had no gravy. My granddaughter got a hamburger with fries. It came out without any fries. I woke up in the middle of the night violently ill with food poisoning. Get it together. You are making people sick. read more

Dinner: Joplin MO I finally tried Cracker Barrel's Southern Fried Chicken. It came with 4 pieces of hand breaded bone-in chicken and two sides. It was good, seasoned with their special recipe and fried 'til golden and crispy. I chose sweet corn and mashed potatoes/gravy for my sides. I was done with 2 pieces of chicken, meaning I got full! I liked the crispy skin but it was too much food. Hubby ordered the Maple Bacon Fried Chicken Tenders. He enjoyed that maple bacon glaze taste. It included house buttermilk ranch for dipping. Our meals came with complimentary biscuits and cornbread which we didn't even touch... it was just so much food. We were able to dine in. We had a little wait before we got seated. The tables were spread out enough with some tables blocked. Our server was friendly but not too attentive with our table. Was staying right next door which was convenient. Stopped by for dinner Friday night at around 830pm. Place was almost empty, seated right away. Everyone was busy doing their side work duties like they were about to close however not due to close till 10pm. Store was warm and comfortable. Our server was at our table far too frequently. Barely 2 to 3 minutes between each time she stopped by, bordering on pestering us. I ordered the roast beef with mashed potatoes, corn and broccoli, plate came out sloppy looking, needed a good wipe down and cleaning. Heat of everything was lukewarm, which I've got issues with. My spouse has the lukewarm meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn and apples. read more

Cracker Barrel food was a disgrace today. Toast was cold and rubbery, eggs were room temperature, chicken fried steak was not fresh from the fryer...and lemon slices on the side....I got one, and not the usual three or four. I thought...."Hmmm. New management perhaps? New metrics?" And the waitperson filled my glass when it was 1/4 inch down! Then at the register, after I paid the screen came up with the question, "Was your water glass refilled as expected?" lol I was right! A new CEO hired last November. I have eaten there several times over the past year and it was consistent and good. Fresh and hot! Not today! The food sucked! The waitstaff has in my experience always been smiling and friendly and happy. I knew something had changed because today they were automatons and unsmiling except mechanically. That was never the case the six times I ate there last year. Nothing against my waitperson today. I don't blame them at all. I could tell there was a lower morale throughout the whole place, and no genuine happiness. It was different, and in a bad way. A sad way. It was like they knew they were being spied on and by a not so friendly management. Overtly apparent to me. Ouch! A total change in atmosphere and food quality. (Not the staffs fault!) Not much I can say about the food, since it's Cracker Barrel. Decent enough food, reasonably well priced. It's a franchise. That said, this review focuses on the incredibly rude and inept people working the dining room during our stop in on the way to Branson. The teenager bussing the tables was over the top loud. People were trying to eat and carry on conversations, and this little asshat was being overly obnoxious about clearing tables. At one point, The Wife and I sat and debated just how many more dishes he was going to try to shove into his tub. Either he's inept, incapable of being trained, or doesn't care. Something has really gone down hill with Cracker Barrel. I can't say if its just this location or all of them but the last few we have been in have had poor service and lackluster food. I would have given this location 1 star only back at Thanksgiving we ordered the complete take-home Thanksgiving meal instead of making it at home and it was pretty good! We were last here on a Friday night, not as busy as a Saturday morning with the breakfast crowd. Our wait was to be 10-20 but it took 30 minutes. No big deal. But it went down from there. Our server never once refilled or offered to refill our water glasses which is all we were drinking, nor did she check on us. It took another 30 minutes to take our order then over an hour to be served! When the food finally came nothing was right, there were four of us and everyone of us were served sides we did not order instead of what we did order. Several times while trying to get the right sides and other correct main items we were brought more wrong things. My order was shorted a piece of fish in a three piece meal, I pointed it out right when the waitress brought out the food. After we were don, looking for the bill and trying to leave (I finally had to ask for the bill as we all were standing up around our table, coats on trying to make it obvious that we are ready to leave and I still had to ask for it. Then she brings out the last piece of fish for my meal. My daughter in-law's correct order never showed up at all. My son was given stuff he never ordered as was my wife and I but eventually some correct sides showed up. Never once was there an apology, never once did the waitress ask if we wanted to see a manager or did one come by. We did not make a scene but it was clear neighboring tables were also getting wrong stuff and waiting way to long to get it. When I went out front to pay, and they ask was everything great? I said actually no, in a calm and polite way (I'm mot an antagonist nor was I looking for a freebie, I just wanted to leave as my family was all upset at this point). She did offer to call a manger but when she let me know there would be a wait for that I declined. So we arrived at 5:10PM and was sat after 30+ minutes of waiting, waited another 30 minutes to have our order taken, an hour to be served, and another 30 minutes to get out after we sort of finished. So the food? It was just mediocre at best. Dried out, tasteless, boring. Like it needed that guy from the Food channel to come remind them what things are supposed to taste like and how to prove a decent level of service. This place is nearly always packed and I think they have just gotten cheap and lazy and take the customers for granted. That reflects poorly on management who set the standards and direction and perhaps at the corporate level too. It will be a long time before we come back. read more

It's Cracker Barrel. I always order the same thing every time I stop into one. You usually can't go wrong with the beans and greens. You can go wrong with the biscuits though. Several times we have gotten old, hard or cold biscuits. When Hunter was working he always made sure everything was good before bringing it out. He is no longer here and it's just not the same. The service we have gotten isn't good and the last time we got biscuits they were very old. Absolutely disgusting! Our server was Kim. She was LOUD, screaming over our food, sick so she was coughing on her hands and wiping her nose with her hand and apron! I order the same thing every time and it was gross! The hash brown casserole was maybe three tablespoons and all the food was cold! When I need a good down home breakfast that doesn't break the bank Cracker Barrel is my favorite. The Joplin staff is always pleasant and efficient. The French toast is always my go to but to add a little protein I'll thrown in a piece of country ham and of course some biscuits and gravy. The cafe style coffees are ok, not worth the price in my option. But I come here for the food, not the coffee. This is conveniently located on I44 and a very safe area for travelers. read more

I have come to appreciate the Cracker Barrel franchise as I travel throughout the United States by auto. I can usually expect good comfort foods, a clean restroom, and a charming gift shop in which to browse and stretch my legs. Unfortunately, this was not the case at the Joplin location. I realize as I venture out that everyone is short-staffed, so I am prepared to wait. However, the food was not the caliber I have come to know and love at CB. When I found a hair in my food (not my own), it was the last straw. I pushed it aside and left, trying not to be sick. I went into the bathroom and was disgusted by the lack of cleanliness. If you are unable to meet the expectations the CB customers have grown to know and love, perhaps offering take-out only may be an option? read more

3 out of 4 of our party had things wrong with order. I ordered mash potatoes with no gravy they had gravy, dad ordered the three piece fish he only got two pieces, husband substituted hash browns for greens was given hash brown. My meatloaf was dry and Bland. The Mac and cheese was good and the biscuits were tasty but it was hard to track the waitress down to get any jelly. We had finished eating and waited for 15mins before they finally brought out the fish they had forgotten. This was my first time going to a crackle barrel and over all I was not impressed with the service, the food quality. I recently had my first time at a Cracker Barrel. The food was good, a bit heavy, but I think that is what they are known for. The service was prompt and the waitress was very nice, especially to the kids. While driving across country, we'd hit this place again for the fact that they seem pretty consistent with the quality of food, clean and friendly. Only odd thing was the crazy gift shop attached with lots of Knick knacks, clutter and junkish food. read more

I am confused as to why people like this place and why they are always busy... I tried this place about 4 years ago and my experience was awful. Tried again today with a not so great experience. Things that were bad.. 1. Their country ham smelled like it was cooked along side a dirty gym sock. 2. The sweet tea smelled like it was made from fish tank water. 3. Sausage Pattys were so dry they were dang near jerky. 4. The white gravy had the consistency of pudding and tasted like wet flour.. Very bland 5. Kids mac and cheese looked like it had some sort of mystery meat. Might of have been bacon? Didnt taste like bacon. Not sure but if it was bacon, it looked like dried up bits of leaves. 6. Took about 2 hours to get in and out not counting our 30 minute wait. The few things they got right.... 1. The biscuits were soft and tasted great. 2. The over easy eggs were cooked correctly. 3. Their cinnamon roll latte was pretty tasty. 4. Server was great. Their prices may be some of the lowest for breakfast food in the area, but the quality is just as low. Stopped in for a quick bite after leaving the hospital. Environment was like all traditional Cracker Barrel's, show room packed with some cool novelty stuff that the kids always go nuts for. The first waitress we had who took our drink orders was great, and pleasant. The second girl was nice but she never came back after dropping our food off except to drop off our check which came just minutes after getting our food. I ordered a chicken egg Benedict bowl and my daughter a sausage and egg bowl. Neither was advertised it looked like they just tossed some stuff together in my daughters as it lacked sausage (it looked like a hush puppy flat like sausage and mushy in the middle) there was no meat at all. But as mentioned we never had a chance to address the food as the girl was never there long enough. My chicken was good, but the rest of the food had the flavor of being out awhile and not fresh to order. My pic isn't the best of my plate and didn't think of getting a pic of my daughters. I must say I was super excited to come to Cracker Barrel for dinner because there's always great service and tons of food! Things seemed to have changed as of lately. The special on the menu was misunderstood and took several tries to get it right. Service seemed a bit stressed out as well, even management didn't seem as pleasant as usual. Maybe policies have tightened up and became more strict, but it took asking 2 people about 5 different times just to get a 2nd small side of apple butter and the response was always oh I brought some, you need more?! Well there was 4 adults at the table, so yes we do! The food all still tasted good, but be sure you realize the difference between catfish strips and fillets as they are not the same! read more
