Butter pecan cake - light, moist and lick-the-plate good.
    Annie A.

Casual eatery with straightforward menu. This is comfort food. Pick your meat (changes daily - but there's always chicken, catfish and Momma burger), and pick 2 sides. Save room for dessert!! We ordered fried chicken and catfish and between four people, we tried the beans, okra, greens, buttered corn, fruit salad, rice and gravy and cabbage. You have to ask for cornbread. Do it. The food is like crashing a church supper on steroids. The catfish is flaky and fresh and evenly coated and fried. The chicken was juicy and not too much batter. The okra was light, addictive and not slimy... fresh. The beans are southern Texas yummy with jalepeno and beef. This was my favorite and was sold out..we had a smaller serving than usual and I coulda doubled up on those. All of it was just what you need after...well... anything. After waking up... running errands...visiting friends. Don't count out the fruit salad, tho. It comes with a crunchy granola with a drinkable custard sauce that you could almost have as dessert. Don't. Get dessert. This place sells out. So...we missed the Ooey, gooey butter cake. We opted for cinnamon roll and butter pecan cake. Served warm, it was hard to split, but dang, we were all stuffed at this point. Healthy serving sizes and sweet tea round out the home-cooked offerings. They had kids' meals and a connect four and outside eating area. Overall, we loved everything. It's solid comfort food made very well and not overdone.

Absolutely delicious food! The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, onion rings were just like I like them, the Navy Beans were sooo good! Be careful of the bones, but they add such great taste! The manager is attentive and able to answer questions.

Didn't get a chance to take pictures of the food because we all devoured it, it smelled and looked so good. We came in for the catfish and all of us ended up ordering an extra serving of it a piece it was so good. We're traveling and would consider ourselves foodies and have tried several different southern soul joints, and this place hands down had some of the best catfish and greens we've had. Unfortunately they were out of the Mac n cheese and the ooey gooey butter cake (which both we were really looking forward to ). But that just gave us room to eat more fish lol. They don't have a sign up outside so it's a bit hard to spot when you first get there but well worth the effort. The staff and owner were lovely and overall it was an exceptional experience. We'd definitely be back if we lived closer and weren't just passing through.

    Banana pudding

The food was great, I got a catfish plate and it was good portions and taste. I also got the banana pudding, probably the best banana pudding I've ever had. Friendly staff and fast service

ALOHA... Hawaiian FOODIES IN DA HOUSE. Tried this place for the first time. Busy place. We had the fried pork steak and meatloaf. Sides were corn on the cob, fried okra, mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. Fried pork steak was a winner. Fried okra OMG... best ever. Homemade mashed potatoes with meatloaf and gravy... Yum!!! Everything home cooked and tasty. Next time we'll try the catfish (which looked amazing) and fried chicken. Needless to say, we'll be back. Owned and operated by some very nice folk.

10 thumbs up. We all agreed. This place is amazing!! We tried three types of meats, five sides, and two desserts. It was all good!! We were all in love with the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake! I forgot to get a photo before it was gone!

Fabulous from scratch food! Always exceptional servers except for one girl and she was friendly…read morejust not attentive, I think she's gone now. If in doubt just ask for Kimmy, she's amazing but I almost hate to put that out there because so is everyone else...just that one bad apple. I haven't taken many pictures over the ten years we have been going but will say we have NEVER had a bad meal at Buttered Bunns. Nearly everything is homemade and absolutely everything is very good! And I'm a super critic! I'm attaching the pics I do have and will add more as I go, to help the business. They've always been open for breakfast and lunch 7-2 and it's amazing...but now are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 8pm. Full menu...but the specials are AYCE catfish on Thursday, steak on Friday and chicken on Saturday. My point in this review is to try and get Buttered Bunns enough business to continue the Thurs-Sat evening hours. It's a 90 day trial that they are doing. And let's face it, dinner in Miami is your choice of numerous Mexican restaurants (FYI the newest one is more expensive and no better that the smaller places), and Mia Bella - a mediocre Itialian joint, casinos, fast food, or Montana Mikes which made a brief rally that I praised here on yelp a few years ago and then they promptly plunged again to the home of extremely overpriced crap! As I say this I also remember Woodys. Always overpriced but the food was good when Jeff owned it. New owners (same as Main Street Cafe) will drive it into the ground soon enough. We do have a few pizza places that aren't national chains but none of them offer anything exciting as far as toppings. Same as or less than the chain places...and Cruisin 66, the new wood fired place is the biggest disappointment of all as far as toppings go. Oh and we did have a phenomenal chicken place -Wing Club- (wings, sandwiches, wraps) until last week when the city condemned their rented building after just giving them a license to operate in said building a few months ago. Talk about some sh*t there!! I think they are getting a food truck now so kiss that one good-bye. Back to Buttered Bunns who has always been good... Consistent, homemade, real, excellent service. We live in the next town over so it's a 30 minute drive for us but we have been doing it each week to support their new evening hours. Please do it with us to help this fabulous small business succeed! I can tell you that you can't go wrong with any breakfast...my fav is two eggs over medium, hash browns crisp, sausage or bacon, and hotcakes! So good!! Lunch is so hard to choose! The chicken strips are bomb! So are their sandwiches and "dinner" options too! The AYCE catfish tonight was the best I've had in a 50 mile radius, or more! Several casinos in Miami do AYCE catfish but it doesn't even compare! And the sides at Buttered Bunns are SO much better! The dining area is open and I love listening to the regulars talking with the staff and each other...we go once or twice a week but are from out of town and only a few servers know us and only from our visits to the restaurant. I think some folks must be there every day, especially for breakfast, but they also know the staff outside the restaurant. Anyway...it's a great place to eat and a Small Business in the small town of Miami. I hope this review sends you in to see them!! Oh!! Also...their pie is fabulous! Especially the coconut cream. Best pie crust I've had in a restaurant ever! Good fillings are common but usually come in a crappy crust. Not at Buttered Bunns, their pie crust is tender, flaky and flavorful! To hold all that amazing filling! Enjoy!!

Food is always excellent and portions are more than enough, and I'm fat lol. Friendly, helpful…read moreservice, very fair prices. No wonder this place is always packed which gives it a lively atmosphere . It's that good. I'll take pics next time.

Let me just start with saying this was the most delicious piece of cornbread I've ever experienced…read morein my life. And that's saying something as I would never purposefully choose an edge piece. On top of that I was surprised to find that spaghetti comes as a side! It reminded me of cafeteria spaghetti, but not the bad kind you groan about when you see it on the menu, the kind that has you running to the cafeteria to beat everyone else. The spicy cabbage is just that, SPICY. I was only able to eat a few bites, but even under all that spice the flavor was excellent. The catfish strips were hot and tender. They even threw in an extra or two. Now the server, he was amazing. He greeted us promptly and went above and beyond. I have not had such a positive experience with a server at any restaurant I've been to in a long time. I didn't catch his name, but he was brilliant. The restaurant was clean, food was fresh, and plenty of seating. I'm very excited to visit here again! We've been here twice, once dining in and once as an order ahead take-out. Both times we have been incredibly impressed by the atmosphere, service, and food. They have the best classic southern soul food we've had the pleasure of enjoying in the area. Their menu is huge with a wide variety such as chicken livers, rabbit, catfish, and classic Southern entrees. We were impressed with the long list of side options such as the spicy cabbage and spaghetti. Their cornbread is incredible, you've got to try it.

You learn to trust the signs. A line before the dinner rush on a Saturday. That golden-hour light…read morespilling onto the sidewalk as the sun sets over Market Street. And the music..low, warm Motown drifting out the door like an invitation you'd be a fool to refuse. That's how you find Mama G's. Parking was a minor hassle. Worth it. Inside, the soul of the place hits you immediately. Family portraits line the walls:real people, real smiles, real history. The woman at the counter greets you not like a customer, but like a nephew who's finally come home for the holiday. That's not trained hospitality. That's heritage. We waited fifteen minutes. Got seated by the bathroom with a view of the road. Not ideal. But you know what? I didn't care. Because the smell coming out of that kitchen was already forgiving every small inconvenience. The menu reads like a dare. Everything "spiced correctly," they boast. No timidity here. So I went big. The Stuffed Turkey Leg: a smoked behemoth of a thing, piled high with greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, all crowned with cornbread crumbs. Thanksgiving on a plate. A chaotic, glorious, soulful mess. The collard greens hit first. Earthy, slow-cooked, righteous. Then the mac and cheese, creamy and clinging to the turkey meat like it belonged there. The yams? Sweet, soft, perfect punctuation. And the spices??; they danced. Bold but not brutal. I could handle it. My four-year-old, however, disagreed. The mac was "too spicy" for her young tongue. Fair criticism. Take the kid to a park next time. This food is for grown-ups! My fiancée went with the Fried Wings. Hand-breaded, Mama G's own seasoning, fresh from the fryer. The kind of fry that crackles when you bite in..extra crispy on the outside, impossibly tender within. She needed dipping sauce to cool the heat. She didn't complain once. In a city full of bland, safe restaurant food, she was grateful for something that actually tasted alive. The staff? Warm. Genuine. Our waitress heard our compliments and brought us a free side of spicy cabbage just to show off what else the kitchen could do. That's confidence. That's family. Mama G's is not a restaurant. It's a relative's house where you happen to pay at the end. It's a taste of the South, a taste of something real, a taste of lovely.

We bragged on the place to the friends we had with us, excited for another hearty meal. What a disappointment! Never before have I been served such a meal. After the first bite, iI was unable to eat a second. My beef club sandwich was packed with what was mostly layers of ice cold fat globs. What lean meat there was cold and stringy, and looked raw enough to bellow. I ate my tough onion petals and part of my pickle and left hungry. When I showed the waitress the meat, she agreed it did not look good at all, and went to tell the manager. He didn't even bother to come out and look at the plate. He had her to tell me "that's how we serve it!" Really?!! We will not be back.

When the server eventually returned it was genuinely an hour wait for our food. For reference there were maybe 15 people in the restaurant. I asked for a 8oz sirloin, rare with Mac n cheese and a loaded sweet potato. When we did get our food, I revived a burnt well done steak, Mac n cheese with zero seasoning and a sweet potato that was nothing but a sweet potato that was cut opened. I politely informed my waitress whenever I seen her 15 minutes later. I she took the steak away and minutes later returned with another steak. This steak was...and I cannot emphasize this work enough...ICE COLD..as in every bit of 40 degree. It had to be on the grill less than 3 minutes.
