I'm so grateful to the volunteers at Charlie's Closet. My husband had a serious operation and I needed an electric bed. They put me in touch with someone who was donating and we picked it up within a week of asking. They also sent me home with a commode and chucks for the hospital bed. Over the years, we have had to borrow equipment, & have also donated to Charlie's Closet. We are so grateful for this much needed service. They were a godsend when equipment was needed quickly. Things were clean & in good working order. The volunteers were very helpful. Reminder --- (in response to the one star rating) --you cannot go there without an appointment. Our Mom is in a Health and Rehab Center in Fairfield. She is slated to go home very soon. We are setting up our childhood home so she can go home. We were able to get 7 medical things we will need to bring her home at Charlie's Closet. The volunteers were awesome there. read more

My wife's brother in law passed away a o. He left behind a walker and a intravenous stand. I had previously donated many items to Charlie's closet when my parents passed away so we drove to Guilford this morning (Friday) to donate the items. When we arrived, there was a sign that said closed due to renovating.. Fortunately, there were 2 women sitting out front, one taller woman who was in her approximate 60s and an older woman sitting around 80 years old. My wife approached both ladies and explained we had a couple of items to donate. The woman in her "60's" immediately in a loud offensive manner said WE'RE CLOSED, WE'RE RENOVATING!!!! AND WE DON'T TAKE THINGS ON FRIDAYS. My wife told her the website says you take things On Fridays. The lady in her 60s turned her back on my wife and walked away. I will never donate to Charlie's Closet again. The lady in her 80s did apologize to my wife. read more

It only took a short phone call and they had the wheelchair we needed for a 92 year old veteran.

My Mom was visiting from Upstate NY. She is 87, one of her current health issues is Parkinson's and getting her up the stairs to our guest bedrooms would be difficult. I couldn't find an organization where I could borrow a hospital bed to set up on the first floor in my office, where I hoped to make a makeshift bedroom for her. I called quite a few and Charlie's Closet was the only one that had one. They were so helpful and kind. Great organization! Thank you Charlie's Closet...I had a memorable visit with my Mom and the convenience of the hospital bed made things so much easier! read more

Had a tough time finding out about this charity. Only through word of mouth. But they are a God send. I am laid up with a broken foot and crutches are hard to use. They loaned me a knee scooter for $1. This is incredibly wonderful as I can't work right now. And I have no income. Glad I didn't have to buy one! Thank you!!! read more

What a wonderful organization! I have so many friends who have equipment they don't need anymore, and it's been sitting in their garages and attics. Now there's a place to bring all that stuff. I myself needed a walker, a commode, and a shower bench after knee surgery, and they had all three items. They don't charge anything, though they do encourage monetary donations. I went here today looking for some things for my 93 year old dad. I was confused as to where to go in and someone greeted me and asked if I needed help. I looked inside to see what they had. I quickly had a hand put up to my face to say stop! She was very rude and condescending. Spoke to me like I was an idiot. They did not have what I was looking for. I WON'T BE BACK !! read more
