We stopped by Barley Burger on a weekday…read moreafternoon for lunch while traveling through Rocky Mount.. we tend to stop in Rocky Mount frequently when driving I-95 up the East Coast. This restaurant is in a strip shopping center and in the area of local hotels. We were seated near the bar which was a nice booth with raised barriers between tables which made conversation easy. Our server Kaydi quickly came over to offer drinks, an energetic tone, a positive smile, and the refreshing Southern "yes ma'am/sir." I got the Blues Brothers Burger with sweet potato fries, a very tasty lunch, and filling. We were offered to-go drinks, a cordial touch. Pricing averaged about $25 per person, a very reasonable price for the value delivered. Overall, we will certainly be back the next time we're driving along the east coast. I hope we're lucky enough to meet Kaydi again, as she's an asset to this establishment.

I originally didn't think I'd finish this salad but it was really fresh and delicious. Very low carb meal. Next time I might try chicken instead of burgers. Husband had the Rocky Balboa burger and a side salad instead of fries. He was a little disappointed in the small size of the burger but it was otherwise good (cooked medium well but not dry) and the salad was fresh. Service was friendly but server had a little trouble remembering if they had Guinness. I would expect the servers to have this information ready as they serve primarily burgers and BEER, ya know. It was an early Fri nt dinner for us so not crowded or busy yet. Noise level was moderate and we could still talk without raising our voices.

I've had the hotdogs and burgers here too and they are worth the trip! The prices are phenomenal! This is no greasy spoon, as the pops sign says... this is good eatin' and great service!! We got a special treat because Patsy, who was the previous owners sister, now owned by her niece, came by every table and said hello. She was cute as a button! Worked here for 50 years and she's still as spry and friendly as ever! She told us about Fried Chicken Thursdays, very popular! And she makes the pies! We got a lemon meringue to go!! It then it looked so good, we ate it there!! Come on get you some!

Service here is quick and friendly with the Southern hospitality you'd expect. I ordered two hot dogs, one with chili, slaw, and mustard and one with chili and cheese. CDI is one of those funky joints that puts the cheese of the chili cheese dog under chili. Does it matter? Probably not...but also...maybe? On the way out, the cakes on the counter were calling my name. I got a slice of yellow cake with chocolate icing and ate it that night in my hotel. Delightful! I'd definitely return to Community Drive-In and sample some of their other menu items.
