If you like oxtail, stop here before heading into Magens Bay Beach! We ordered the stewed oxtail and the jerk chicken. Both entrees came with rice & beans, plantains and coleslaw. The 'jerk chicken' was actually chopped chicken in a slightly creamy jerk sauce, it was fine. The sides were all tasty. The stewed oxtail was the standout- perfectly seasoned and so tender.

Jerk chicken plate. The camera couldn't beat me to the potato salad and Cole slaw though

This was a very cool little spot just a short drive from Magen's Bay Beach. The portion was generous and my wife and I were able to share a plate of the jerk chicken. It was served with sides of fresh Cole slaw, potato salad and rice/beans. All of the food was delicious and the service was friendly and fast. Parking was limited as the business is a roadside food truck. We saw some others take the plates to-go but they did have two picnic tables for seating.

This food is AMAZING. Great flavor, huge portions, and very friendly service. The best value for your money on the island.

Two of the sweetest people on the island with the absolute best food! They are always happy and the food has never disappointed once! We have ordered from there probably 20 times at this point and never had a complaint! It's consistent and delicious! Check them out!

As always, their food is amazing!!! They sometimes have a beef bone soup and it is collagen packed and very delicious. Salmon pate is really good, as is the goat curry, ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, Mac and cheese. I don't know why I am surprised when I try something new from here and it's delicious because it's ALL good. Kind and generous proprietors. I'll be back every time I am here! They open up around 9 and usually leave by 5pm.

"Take a chance on me" wow what a fantastic place to grab some curry goat or chicken! If you're In the neighborhood don't forget to grab a plate or two and share with your friends! They will thank you for it! It's not on the beach- I went up and down looking for it- it's on the main road! Delicious food! It is not soaked in curry sauce which I hate! It is just right!

Chicken curry was the best meal we had on the island. I highly recommend stopping by this local spot!

First meal once I landed in St Thomas and it was delicious. The lamb was so tender the gravy was to die for and the owner (Margaret) was amazing she gave us extra gravy because we ate the good so fast. Excellent way to start the vacation.

Oxtail stew, pumpkin, beans and rice - $20

This place was okay. Mom and pop run food stand. Nice people but didn't offer any real input to help me order. The pumpkin was bland. Rice and beans was the star of the dish and the stewed oxtail was pretty good. Nothing spectacular. Probably would pass on this place and try other local eats. Price point was decent. This dish could easily be shared between two people or one hungry person. Asked for something with lots of heat and flavor. They said all their food had heat and flavor lol. The dish was not spicy at all.

    Review Highlights - Charlo’s Cuisine

While there is some decent food at the beach itself, I'd say plan things so that you eat at Charlo's instead.

The guy helping run the truck, originally from Florida, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He took time to chat with us, told us more about the food truck, showed us a nice nearby spot to sit and eat, and even introduced us to his nephew who also helps run the truck. On my first visit I tried the oxtails, mac & cheese, and passion fruit juice. They were out of the beef patties and rice & peas because it was a busy cruise day, but he promised to save us some for the next day -- and he actually did! We came back the following day and sure enough, he had beef patties waiting for us. The oxtails were honestly some of the best I've ever had super flavorful and tender. The mac & cheese was amazing, and the beef patties were very filling. I ordered two and could barely finish one. The passion fruit juice was a little sweet for my taste, but I still enjoyed it. If I'm ever back in St. Thomas or Fort Lauderdale, I'll definitely be visiting again. The food and hospitality were just that good!

ROADSIDE TREAT As…read moreyou travel around the island of St Thomas you will encounter roadside restaurants hidden everywhere. This is one of those places. It is located east of the Food Center grocery store. This is a place where the locals eat. As you drive up in your rental car, they will totally know you're not a local. Do not be afraid and miss out where the locals eat. You will see a bunch of outdoor tables and a food truck that is now a non moving kitchen. There is a wooden staircase located at the back door of the truck. As you make your way up the stairs you will see a glass case with already cooked food. It will totally be hard to see the food past the steamy glass but the owner is brilliant. She uses a window squeegee to clean the steam off the windows. You will now have a totally clear view of all the food she has. It is typical Caribbean stewed meats like chicken, goat & fish. A plate of chicken with rice costs only $10. If you want goat or fish with rice it will set you back $12. You can also add on a Johnny Cake for just $1. Two sisters make all of the food and they have been in business for seven years which means that they are doing something right. So next time you find yourself on a winding road in St Thomas keep your eyes open and stay on the left side because these hidden culinary adventures exist everywhere. Everything doesn't have to be twenty bucks a plate and this place is a perfect example.

I'm not sure if they're related or not, but there is a little food shop little right next to it with the same available seating. As with the drinks, food there is a little pricier but take into account where you are. We ordered the mahi bites. Absolutely delicious. We had 3 big plate orders of stewed chicken, white rice, and yellow plantains, also comes with a side of beans. The chicken was moist and juicy especially with the savory sauce it was cooked with, the rice wasn't dry, the plantains ripe and well cooked, and the beans were seasoned and spiced just right. Service was friendly, fast even with the constant influx of people coming in. Fresh food was coming from the kitchen even by 745pm. The interior is simple, no frills, and well lit. We parked our car on the street and it took us less than 10 min to get our order. The road may seem sketchy to outsiders especially at nighttime but we had no problems finding the place. Would come back to try more of their food and would recommend! Small plates are around $8-9, and big plates start from around $12. Our big plate with the stewed chicken. Rice, plantains and a side of beans were $12 each. Oxtail big plate is $18 . Cash and credit cards accepted.
