Pretty good food, and Chris provided good service. The dishes were hearty and flavorful, though somewhat pricey. The oxtail was tender and tasty, although it seemed to be more bone than meat (this is not always the case with oxtail)... the sides of mac and cheese and pigeon peas with rice were quite good. The rasta pasta with shrimp was also quite good! Their signature Shamcracker cocktail was pretty pricey and mostly just tasted like fruit punch, so that's the one thing we probably wouldn't order again. (They were out of the banana painkiller I wanted to get)
This was a surprise. After our beach excursion we were given time to shop but we were not interested in shopping and wanted to catch a bite to eat. A local approached us with an idea of a small restaurant serving local favorites. 2 blocks away. We went in and were immediately greeted and seated by the absolute best hostess we could ask for. She gave us samples of the sauces and the drinks. Wow the drinks were phenomenal! We ordered jerk chicken, oxtail, plantains. It was all delicious!! The only thing that we didn't care for was the way the chicken is chopped. Dipping sauces were savory! The best part was the attention and family feeling in this place. When in St Thomas and looking for a place to eat local foods, stop by this place and leave with a happy face. And prices are reasonable too!
Lovely local business with warm smiles and good hospitality! I felt so welcomed from the beginning until the end, with what tasted like a hearty home cooked meal. The oxtail has been braised so long, the meat will fall off the bone as you try to pick it up with utensils. There is so much flavor! The chicken was done well too, and their house sauce, tauted "perfectly sweet and perfectly spicy" tasted way more sweet than spicy for my palette. However, tasty nonetheless. The potato salad, plantains, and the rice were amazing sides, highly recommend. Pro tip: ask for a side of jerk sauce, pour over rice. Feast on rice with flavor steroids. They also had lemon cake that day, which was moist and dense, almost like pound cake. Delicious! And the slushees we got to sample by their generosity were sweet and refreshing as well.
The food was great the service was rocky. We got there around 12 and they opened at 11. They told us the jerk chicken wasn't done but it was. They brought out the wrong side and told us the mixed vegetables were sold out (how when you just opened for the day. We also ordered johhny cakes, sold out. After all of that the server forgot to put in our food orders so we had to wait even longer. They offered cake and drinks for the inconvenience. Overall, I would eat there again it was some of the best food we ate while on the island.
This place is a hidden gem. They served us the best meal that we had in the USVI. The server was polite, friendly and engaging. The chef also came out and talked to us. I got the jerked chicken with rice and peas and plantains. My fiancé got the oxtails with Mac and plantains. Both were extremely flavorful, and the jerk sauce was super spicy and tasty. I could've skipped the $6-7 cup of lemonade in retrospect. It was a great experience, and I would eat here again.
Stopped by here at the recommendation of a local while vacationing and must say the food was excellent. We tried the Shambam chicken and a variety of sides and everything was delicious. We did want goat and oxtail and they didn't have any as they had a rush crowd at lunch time. The owner was nice enough to come out and apologize and told us if we had time come back as they were making a fresh batch of everything. The positive side is you are getting fresh food daily and that's a good sign but on the flip side, don't wait until the food is finish to make more. This places plays good music, the servers and friendly and we got take away cups due to Corona. I would definitely come back here to try the oxtails and goat. The place was also very busy with ppl dinning in and take out orders
We had about 6 hours in St Thomas and we were looking for some authentic island food. We were walking around downtown and a man told us to go one road up for great food. Off we went, we walked in and were welcomed with big smiles. We ordered the oxtail and the grilled shrimp. We got rice, Mac and cheese and slaw as sides. It was all amazing!!! The slaw was some of the best I've ever had. This place has to be on your list of things to do on the island and ask for their hot sauces!
This is no longer Shama's Specialities. It's now called The Tuck Shop. The other Tuck Shop is more sandwiches while this one is more a sit down venue. Food was good, I was looking for Jerk Chicken and found a nice spicy plate of it here. The drinks were excellent, try the Bushwhacker, Painkiller and their Mamajuana shots. Try it, you'll like it!

Shama's was referred to us by our taxi driver. As soon as you walk in the exquisite aromas hit your senses. The energy is high and it's a whole vibe. We ordered oxtails, jerk chicken, Rasta pasta. LOOK. This is the best food on St Thomas, PERIOD! That jerk chicken was juicy and flavorful. The oxtails had meat just falling off the bones I live in Houston, the most diverse city in the country, so I know good eating. Just Go!
Shama's will be my go to whenever I come to St. Thomas. I came twice. Day 1 they were sold out of oxtails by the time I got there. This was the reason I came to Shama's. So we opted for the jerk Salmon and fried Shrimp combo with Mac and cheese and plantains. It was very flavorful and a nice sized portion. The drinks were strong as well. I was still very disappointed that I didn't get to have the oxtail. Shama, the owner, assured me that I would be able to get oxtail the next day if I came back and if I couldn't come back they would arrange for me to get delivery!!! A young girl (maybe her daughter) made sure I had the number to call tomorrow if I needed anything. Super sweet! The customer service was outstanding so I returned the next day when they opened and again the customer service was undefeated. Shaquanya was our server on both days. She was so sweet and made sure we have everything we needed. There is another server there but I didn't catch her name. She had me laughing the whole time and was so personable on both days! The chef came out and spoke to us a few times because he heard that we returned for oxtails the next day. Now for the main event--the oxtails were amazing!!!! Flavorful and so tender that the plastic fork could cut the meat off the bones effortlessly! It was worth the return. If you come to Shama's get there early. They are popular so there's tons of people coming in and out for lunch and dinner. There's music and TVs to keep you entertained as well but you really don't need anything else but to interact with Shama's staff! I'll definitely be back and sending friends when they visit the island. Thanks for the hospitality!
Our original choice for lunch didn't work out and as we were wondering around, a kind local led us to Shama's. It was the BEST accident. We were immediately and graciously greeted by our hostess/server/bartender all-in-one Tiffany. She had the most charismatic personality and smile. I loved her energy! She explained the menu to us first timers and she even brought us complimentary drinks to try! The menu basically featured an array of proteins (chicken, shrimp, wings, salmon, etc) and sauces (jerk, creole, teriyaki, and the special shama sauce) you can pair it with. Sadly they no longer serve curry goat and they were out of oxtail the day we went. Each order also comes with choice of 2 sides. I ordered the jerk salmon with side of rice and peas and plantains. My salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I loved the slightly peppery spice from the jerk seasoning. The plantains were delicious. The rice was a little dry for my taste but went well with my salmon. My fiancé got the wings in shama sauce and this was SO GOOD. Would recommend. He also got a massive portion order of macaroni and cheese. They definitely make sure you don't leave hungry here. My friend got the shrimp and it was nicely seasoned as well. Prices were very reasonable for the portion. Everything was so plentiful! I had enough leftovers for a second meal. The only reason I can't give this 5 stars is the ambiance. The decor is very bare bone and feels like much more of a take out place than somewhere you would go for a nice lunch. There's also two TVs and they blast the sound here which can be very distracting when your group is trying to have a conversation. The bathroom could also use some TLC. Otherwise, the service and food was definitely a 5 stars experience for me. Would gladly return next time I'm in Saint Thomas! read more

Our server Tiffany is the absolute BOMB. The kindest most accommodating service we got on the island!! The food was pretty bomb too. We had the Rasta pasta, rice with pigeon peas, mixed veg and plantains on our first stop here. Jerk chicken was extremely tender and the sauce was the perfect amount of spice. The food did feel a little oily/fatty but we still mopped up our plates! They were out of baked Mac but certainly hope we can try it on the future, yum. Decent sized portions but everything was delicious and we wanted more! Prices are reasonable and match the portion sizes. read more

After I eased on down the road I arrived at The Emerald City (The Wiz). Walked in greeted by young lady and given menus. I ordered the grilled shrimp which were delicious and served with some local hot sauce which was the bomb. Others ordered oxtails with shrimp they stated oxtails needed some more seasoning , but the shrimp were tasty. But the wait staff and chef were friendly and spoke a few minutes with us . Overall good lunch on our last day in St Thomas. read more

We stumbled on this place we decided to try it..what a great little hidden Jewel the owner herself took care of us. I had the oxtail and it was so delicious- my wife tried the chicken and also was delicious. The food a bit pricey but worth it but the alcohol was the cheapest on the Island...food for both including drinks $66.00. read more

Y'all. This has been the best experience thus far in St. Thomas. The food was amazing. The service was impeccable! Tiffany was our server and she was phenomenal. She ran the entire establishment for the 2 hours we were there with minimal help. Our orders were on point. Drinks were so good! I recommend the blueberry lemonade frozen drink mixed with fruit punch. As far as food is concerned, get the Rasta pasta with shrimp in sham-bam sauce. I'm telling you, you won't regret it! Did I mention the cake?? Also amazing. We were told this is where the locals eat and I can definitely see why! We will definitely be back on our next trip to the island! read more

Want to throw this up separately... best food yet! Jerk chicken has me SHOOK! Oxtail is fire and that sham bam sauce is no joke. Worth the trip for this food alone. Legit if you come here first the rest of your food experience will be ruined because it's THAT GOOD! read more

We wanted to try something new. We had jerk chicken and shrimps, oxtail stew, salmon and shrimps with slushy rum drinks. Our server Tiffany was very attentive and our food was all good. Hard to find parking though, but worth the experience. read more

Jerk seasoning was pretty saucy instead of a typical rub. Jerk flavor was good. Service was slow and only 1 server working. Ambiance was nice. Overall, food was good but lacked depth of flavor. Mac & cheese was average and steamed veggies/rice didn't taste very fresh/freshly made. read more

Shama's Specialties was EXCELLENT! I had mutton (goat) for the first time. Shama's gives you an excellent meal of local Caribbean faire. We felt welcome and cared for. After your meal, also try one of Shama's beautiful bakery items. Thanks for adding to our great day in St. Thomas. read more

If you're on the rock, then please do yourself a flavor and run to this place. The service was great and friendly! Different samples of drinks were brought out to help you decide on your drink of choice. Tiffanie, the island's best server was excellent with her suggestions, descriptions of food items and just plain out took care of us!! The food came out in a timely manor and was exactly like described. We enjoyed the food so much that we went back the very next day. We didn't get a chance to try the cakes because they were extremely busy and will have to try our next visit. read more

The BEST place to eat on the island!!! Shama and the rest of the employees are SO nice and make sure you are really taken care of. We ordered the oxtail and salmon with shambam sauce. The shambam sauce is to die for. Absolutely incredible. The salmon was perfectly cooked as well. The oxtail was amazing too. We also got a side of jerk chicken and that was super tasty! The jerk sauce is real jerk sauce. So it's pretty spicy! If you like it.. go for it.. If you don't then get the shambam sauce on everything because you could literally drink it. It's that's good! Plantains and yellow rice as our sides were great too. Can never go wrong with that. Shama even hooked us up with her special shama drink. It was made out of passion fruit, lemonade, and something else I can't remember. But it's made with honey and brown sugar! No white sugar! She also had lots of cakes we didn't get to try but they sure did look great! read more

This was by far one of the best places my Wife and I ate at throughout The whole trip. The service was awesome and there food was great. They made us feel like we were at home sitting around the table with family and friends. To anyone who visit you should definitely try the curry everything and sham punch with a kick if your of age of course if not it's still great as a virgin....... read more
