If you're in St. John, you can't miss The Roti King, especially when you spot the iconic red school bus converted into a food truck. We had the pleasure of meeting The Roti King himself, who was kind enough to pose for a photo with me. Although we ordered our food to go while on an island tour, the experience was fantastic. We tried both the beef and salt fish pates. While the salt fish was unique, it didn't compare to the flavorful beef pate, which was reminiscent of a beef empanada but with a delightful twist on the bread. The curry chicken roti was a standout with its tender stewed chicken, potatoes, and carrots--comfort food at its best. The shrimp roti was tasty too, with plenty of shrimp and a spicy kick, though it lacked the potatoes found in the chicken roti and featured garbanzo beans and carrots instead. And don't forget the mango chutney. Mr King Roti said it's so good it will take you to another level. We also enjoyed a Johnny cake with cheese, a local favorite that's perfect for eating on the go. Overall, The Roti King offers an authentic Caribbean fast food experience that's not to be missed!

Perfect! We had been craving Roti all week and hadn't found anything. This was exactly what we were looking for. Curried chicken roti was chefs kiss. Served with mango chutney- he also carries several hot sauces (like real ones, not Tabasco iykyk) and there are places to sit and enjoy with a beautiful view of the water. It was clean and the Roti King himself was very nice and even asked if we wanted it cut since we were sharing. Highly recommend!

The roti was made to perfection, with a delightful softness and freshly baked texture, complemented by the succulent shrimp. Dipping pieces of the roti into the shrimp sauce was a must, as the slight heat and rich curry flavor elevated the dish. This is definitely a must-order again!

The service was great, ambience fantastic y la comida deliciosa! My husband planned a mini trip to St. Thomas during his vacation. I found out about The Roti King while searching info online about St. John for our one day trip. My husband is originally from Barbados and LOVES chicken roti. We ordered 2 chicken rotis, 1 johnnycake, & freshly made ginger beer. After my husband complimented the roti, I knew that was the icing on the cake to trip. Since the Roti was good, we ordered to go, a salt fish patty, beef patty, & 2 Johnnycakes. We ate them for breakfast the next morning and they were yummy too. #'Ono grinds

Most delicious Shrimp Roti! The portion of shrimps is huge! Veggie roti can be made little more spicy. Overall absolutely awesome experience.

On our recent trip (Dec., '23--Jan. '24), we planned a hike to Salomon and Honeymoon Beaches on the Lind Trail. First, we stopped at Roti King to pick up food for a picnic lunch on the beach. Roti King is a stationary red food truck that sits just above North Shore Road in Cruz Bay. If you head from downtown towards Mongoose Junction, you can't miss it on your right. Just walk up the hill about 25 yards, and you'll be there. We got chicken roti, salt fish pate, and johnnycakes, two of each item. The entire order came to $50, but here's the thing: we massively over-ordered! Portions were enormous, and we could have easily fed four people on all that food. What were we thinking? Anyway, they packed our food up for us carefully, and we hiked to Salomon Beach. That's when we discovered just how much food we'd purchased! But it was absolutely delicious. I'll confess to stuffing myself a bit, since it was SO good, and I couldn't imagine throwing it away. The roti was nicely spiced, the pate was crisp and delicious, and the johnnycake was like the best savory doughnut ever. We will absolutely go back to Roti King on our next trip. And unless we take a group of friends, we'll order less food!

I had high high hopes and Roti King smashed them all! If you have any interest in roti at all you absolutely must go here! Our group tried the johnnycake, chicken pate, and the goat roti. All the fried dough and roti was very fresh, soft, and warm, miles away from all the other old, bland, stale pate I tried in USVI. The meat was amazing, tender and full of flavor--the goat in particular brought me right back to my Indian mother's goat stew. The roti comes with a mango chutney that wasn't quite up my alley, but my partner really enjoyed it, and there is an array of hot sauces available if that's more your style. The only downside here is that it's a food truck, so while the food is fresh it might be a long, slow wait outside in the heat before you are served. Make sure to order a cold drink! Regardless, I stopped by here twice during my time on the island and would absolutely have gone every other day if not for my travel companions.

Took this Chicken Roti on a hike with me to Honeymoon Beach. Best view for this delicious meal. Highly recommend both.

Love this food truck. I could eat here every day while on the island and not get bored. Great home cooking. The Rotis have ample helping of seasoned meat wrapped in delightful roti with the perfect sweet/hot mango chutney (give the goat a try, tastes a lot like lean beef). The other items on the menu are also just as well done. The chicken quesadilla is overstuffed with chicken, black beans, cheese, and tomatoes and comes with salsa, coleslaw, and fries. The Johnny cakes are yummy plain, but I'm sure with cheese and tuna would also be great, especially after a day on the beach. The pates are the same deep-fried doughy goodness, but you have beef, veggie, and salt fish options. Show this place some love, your tummy and pocketbook will thank you.

Roti King!! Cruz Bay. I've eaten all over St John (Extra Virgin, Miss Luci's, Lime Out, ZoZo's, Lovango's, Morgan's Mango...) the past 10 days and had a great lunch today. Had both the shrimp and the chicken roti. I prefer the shrimp, but both were outstanding. Do yourself a favor and add a visit to the King of Roti.

If you miss this stop you are missing out on some of the BEST roti Literally a 4 minute walk from the ferry terminal. We just had the taxi drop us off after our beach tour and walked back after. This roti was so delicious and not too spicy hot. Then there is this chutney that sets the roti off the charts. Never had anything like that and it was just amazing. The Johnny cake was so light and fluffy. I had to try the Pattie's and it did not disappoint. The owner is so friendly and accommodating. The bathroom is very clean and help yourself to the hose to wash off whatever you like I washed my hands and the rest of the sand off my feet This place came recommended to us and now I'm happy to return the flavor. This is a must try. We will not miss it again. We will come back

Goat Roti, beef pate and Johnny cake

This is a must try when in St. John. The best place to try local Caribbean food. We stopped here one morning and boy we were impressed. It's hard to miss as it's a bright red food truck opposite Cruz bay. There is a parking lot and restroom. There is a shaded area and tables to wait while getting your food. The view from there is gorgeous. We got the goat roti, beef pate and a Johnny cake. The goat roti and beef pate were scrumptious. We opted for a plain Johnny cake and it was soft and yummy too. We loved it so much that we stopped by the next day but sadly they were closed. We're glad we tried it when we did.

We were planning to go to Coki beach anyhow and we love good Caribbean fish so we came here on our way home from the beach. We were told to call ahead and tell Vinny what we wanted so he could start making it because it's made fresh - it takes at least an hour to make. We wanted red snapper, he only had yellowtail snapper that day but it was still really good! We ordered two meals which come with the whole cooked fish, rice and peas, and plantains. We took it back to our airbnb and had it with some cooked vegetables - it was enough for two meals for each me and my mother, and this was $70 in total, so not a bad deal! If it puts things in perspective, I read online that Brooke's bar has the best food on the island. I tried Brooke's a couple days after I came here (also ordered snapper there) - genuinely I did not notice a difference between here and the food from Brooke's, it's all just tasty! And if anything, I actually preferred Vinny's because he had the food ready when he said it would be ready, whereas when we called Brooke's 2 hours early and they said the food would be ready, it was NOT. There was a little picnic table here if you wanted to sit and eat, but we didn't. Otherwise there isn't a whole lot of ambiance, it's just along the road that leads to Coki beach.

It is located east of the Food Center grocery store. This is a place where the locals eat. As you drive up in your rental car, they will totally know you're not a local. Do not be afraid and miss out where the locals eat. You will see a bunch of outdoor tables and a food truck that is now a non moving kitchen. There is a wooden staircase located at the back door of the truck. As you make your way up the stairs you will see a glass case with already cooked food. It will totally be hard to see the food past the steamy glass but the owner is brilliant. She uses a window squeegee to clean the steam off the windows. You will now have a totally clear view of all the food she has. It is typical Caribbean stewed meats like chicken, goat & fish. A plate of chicken with rice costs only $10. If you want goat or fish with rice it will set you back $12. You can also add on a Johnny Cake for just $1. Two sisters make all of the food and they have been in business for seven years which means that they are doing something right. So next time you find yourself on a winding road in St Thomas keep your eyes open and stay on the left side because these hidden culinary adventures exist everywhere. Everything doesn't have to be twenty bucks a plate and this place is a perfect example.
