Great people! All locals! Enjoyed the mutton with seasoned rice, sweet potatoes and pasta salad as the sides. The joyce's from the mutton on the sweet potato and rice was so good! Also had a soursop juice. Delicious. Reminded me of the flavor in mulled wine except cold and refreshing!

Hidden gem for local food in Cruz Bay! Just a few blocks away from the beach and would highly recommend it.

If you want authentic Caribbean food while on St. John come to Hillside Terrace. The service here was amazing and the food and vibes were also great. I highly recommend the stew chicken and some of the fresh juices. The restaurant is walking distance from a lot of the main attractions in Cruz Bay and a 2 min drive to the car ferry.

Local yellowtail boiled with 3 sides (green bananas, rice and peas (rice and beans) and fungi (okra). Pickled onions on top.

The menu is big. It's local. They sell out as the night goes on. All of the servers do not speak English really well. But, honestly, if you have a question that can't be answered, there's someone around you can talk to. We ordered sautéed fish and the stewed chicken. Each entree comes with three sides - my favorites were the plantains, red beans, and Cole slaw. Rice was also good. The cook was also grilling pork that smelled AMAZING and when I asked my server if I could have whatever he was making, she literally snuck me over a side plate of smoked and grilled pork. So freaking good. This is not your typical Cruz bay restaurant. This is local. It's delicious. There is live music. Appreciate what you are getting. If you want cute fish tacos, this place isn't for you. We had a cocktail at the Windmill Bar during sunset and then popped over here (practically next door), to order some food. Tables are picnic style tables. All outside. Service is great but food is cooked to order so it might be slow. Enjoy it! We had multiple beers and a couple mamawana shots and two entrees and our total was about $75. Definitely our least expensive meal on St. John ever.

If the waiter just came to the table our bill would have doubled for them. Therefore? It was very over priced for the full package. Dinner entrees are all $40-$60 for moderate portions. I know St. John is expensive and there are several other restaurants charging the same prices but those have full staff checking on you and a much more refined interior. This place is good but prices should be 30% less or they should up their interior & service. All that said, the food was all great.

For our date night we went out to The Refinery... the food and service were great. The drink menu has many options, and we selected the non-Caribbean, the Hawaiian-themed humuhumunukuapua'a (humumu) drinks... they are poured from dry gin, lemon/lime, orgeat (also in mai tai), and pineapple - very good! We made surf n turf from two menu items: - Mango mahi mahi - Churrasco Steak and fries - Both served with yucca fries - similar to potato french fries but a bit lighter and really good The Refinery is located a block from the street with several other restaurants in downtown St. John, and is right next door to a building that is home to The Legislature, the St. John Annex of the US Virgin Island's law-making branch of government. Thank you, The Refinery! ----- ----- -----

The Longboard's creative cocktails, specifically the Swell Chaser and Paloma Brava, are perfectly crafted. The ceviche, Shrimp Tostones, and Isla Verde poke bowl are fresh, bright, and delicious. We've never been disappointed -- the food is always on point, and the service is always welcoming. Even though the restaurant isn't right on the beach, it absolutely has the vibe. It's comfortable and inviting -- the perfect stop after a day in the sun for happy hour and light bites or a relaxed dinner in a laid-back island setting.

Having said that, it's a beach bar vibe like most places. Open-air seating, no AC, and beach club motif. In this case, it's a one-page menu of food and drinks, serving ceviche, sushi wraps, and poke bowls...that's it. Some appetizers, but that's the menu as you'll see in pics. We ordered an F-bomb frozen drink that was COMPLETELY refreshing on a warm day. Happy hour is early 2:00-4:00, so know that if going for dinner. For entrees, I got a Tropical Poke bowl with tuna (they also offer two other kinds of fish). It was chock-full of pineapple, pickled onions, sushi rice, and other goodies. In other words, a typical fresh poke bowl. Our other entree was a jerk chicken lettuce wrap with chili flakes that was really good and deceptively filling. At the end of the day, this was a great meal and atmosphere, and we would return if we have exhausted all options in Cruz Bay.
