The food is definitely pricey for what you get. I got avocado bacon toast. The bacon was black and completely burnt. The avocado on the toast is also guacamole and has an overwhelming onion taste. This is one of the cutest coffee shops I've ever been to! I sure wish we had cozy coffee houses with exposed brick like this in Chicago. I shouldn't necessarily say "Coffee shop" either as this breakfast nook boasts a very extensive food menu. Both times I've stopped in here I've gotten the Kiwi Açaí bowl and it does NOT disappoint. It's one of several açaí bowls which is exciting as many breakfast venues don't offer more than 1 kind. Fresh fruits, coconut shavings and a scoop of peanut butter make this an energizing breakfast that doesn't leave you feeling uncomfortable. I paired this with a Turtle Latte which was kind of like a dessert in a cup... so good. Food takes a little long to come out, but hey, it's because this place is bustling with customers. Charlottes used to be my favorite stop for coffee, but I will not be going back. The service has been going downhill the last few visits I've made there. My daughter and I ordered ahead through the app (for which you pay a "convenience fee ") and when we went to pick it up it wasn't ready. Which is understandable, but as we kept waiting, and waiting, we finally had someone confirm they had missed the order. This was after asking someone to check who said they would check, but they actually didn't. So they made our order, which we actually got 40 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. The worst part however, was the way the staff treated us. We felt like we were a huge inconvenience, no apology, no offer for maybe a free treat or next drink, nothing. The last few times I've been there I've experienced the staff doesn't seem to care if you have a good experience or not, I have stood at the order counter and been ignored when no one else was waiting. I've tried to give the benefit of the doubt, but I won't be going back. read more

When I got to Charlotte's, there was no line and maybe five people in the cafe. There were three employees behind the counter and it took them five minutes to even acknowledge me. I ordered two 16 oz. iced Americanos, which were $4.40 each, (which is pretty steep for espresso and water considering I don't think I've ever been charged more than $4 for an americano). I then waited over 10 minutes for my drinks; no one ordered in the entire span of time. When my drinks were brought out to me, the ice was melted, and they were watery. I lived in Dubuque two years ago and Charlotte's was my favorite café in town. I am writing this review because it is sad to see how much it has changed for the worse since I've been gone. The coffee tasted good despite being watery, but with customer service and prices like this, I likely will never choose this over other cafes when visiting Dubuque. read more

I love charlottes my favorite are the açaí bowls. I used to love the Mediterranean bowl , also gluten free options are limited but their peanut butter cookie is yummy. We came here two morning in a row and the only thing that stopped us from coming a third was that it was the last day of our trip and we were hitting the road. Soooo cute inside, very comfortable, a lot of seating but still a lot of character. I tried their medium roast and it was good, I tried sweet & savory food orders & they were good, I tried a little sweeter coffee drink & it was good. I had to buy a souvenir sweatshirt. When it comes to Dubuque, Charlotte's is one of a kind, which is why everyone loves it. It's cozy and they have a wonderful breakfast/lunch menu. The perfect place to hangout all day and work. The customer service is good, but it will likely take a while to get your food. I also recommend going not at "rush" times, as seating can become very scarce, especially for larger groups. This place is incredible. The staff is so friendly and the cafe has an awesome atmosphere. We had the sausage breakfast burrito, the veggie panini, and the kiwi açaí bowl... all so good! The coffee is stellar. I want to mention that the placed was packed and the staff handled the volume so well!!
