Oscar's makes such a refreshing change to the number of chain restaurants you find on the high street in Leamington. It's tucked away in a little side street and possibly very easy to miss if you don't know it, but it's well worth seeking out! The staff are very welcoming and gave us a choice of either being seated down or upstairs. Both times we've visited Oscar's we've sat downstairs and not been disappointed. There's a really buzzy, community feel and the service is attentive, but not at all intrusive. Oscar's is painted in a deep red colour with atmospheric candle lighting, making for a warm and intimate feel for a quick luncheon or leisurely dinner here. We've had both lunch and dinner here. Locally Oscar's is well know for it's excellent steak and chips. My partner had the streak and he thought it was indeed very good - cooked to his taste (medium rare) and succulent, but the chips probably let the dish down. The steak really needs to be served with chunky chips, but the ones which arrived were cut quite thinly and lacked that real satisfying taste you can get from well cooked (oil slick free) pomme frites! It's probably just down to personal taste, but if you compete with good gastro pubs/restaurants, you have to get everything right with a meal. The french soup is delicious and a great winter warmer if you're out shopping for the day. We've tried a few of their desserts and they're all homemade with a great attention to detail in their presentation - savour every mouthful. Their traditional Creme Brulee is to heavenly as is their Mousse au Chocolat. I honestly don't think you could go wrong with any of their lovely puddings! Reasonably priced and good quality food and wine, well served. I really can find little wrong with this great independent bistro. Highly recommend a visit!

This place offers quite a few different drinks on tap with wine and liquor as well. No comment on the alcohol here as I opted for water. The food is traditional British cuisine with a number of fish/vegetarian options. I choose the fish pie, which quite honestly, was disappointing. The vegetables on the side were limp and far from fresh (unfrozen and heated up without any flavorings at all). The fish pie was not filling at all and lacked flavoring as well. I hesitated in giving this place 2 or 3 stars and in the end decided it could be rated higher for the atmosphere and potential. I think I ordered a poor dish and should have gotten the fish and chips instead, so I'll be trying that out next time along with one of there many desserts (too bad there wasn't the time to eat a dessert!)

It's a rather big bar, too, so more often than not you won't have to wait long to get serviced on drinks and food. Really nothing much more to say about this establishment: The food is pub grub, but being served in a bit more stylish manner. I only had drinks at this place in months/years previously, this time I had dinner: just fish and chips, but the fish was well-prepared and stylishly presented in original fishwrap (i.e. a newspaper, covered yet again in regular gray paper). The portion was all right, the deep-fried fish was crunchy and tasty, as were the chips. There were also mushed peas, rather irritatingly presented in an individual jar that makes one think they were guacamole. The service here is friendly and - out of necessity - very efficient. Can't complain, really.

It is a large venue which could cause problems for getting served, but as you order at the bar and provide your table number this did not cause me any problems! Once I had ordered I didn't have to wait very long for my food, it helps when you are looking to catch a flight!! I had a standard breakfast which did the job at an early hour when i just needed something to fuel me. This venue does what it says on the tin and does it in a very functional manner.
