We tried walking in first, but they were closing after lunch and shut down between lunch and dinner, so we booked a reservation for a couple days later. We visited in late February, and it felt a little less busy than usual, according to our waiter. We're from Los Angeles, and honestly, this ended up being one of our favorite meals in Rome. Everything we ate was delicious. We ordered the gnocchi with pork belly (the gnocchi was amazing). The pork belly was a bit too fatty for my personal taste, but my fiancé loved it. We also had a vegetable plate with a balsamic infusion that was so flavorful and beautifully done -- tomatoes, peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, eggplant, onions -- everything tasted fresh and intentional. And the bread was excellent too. Ambiance is super cute and cozy! Overall, the food, quality, and experience totally lived up to the hype. I would absolutely recommend Roscioli and would 100% come back.

Kept seeing this restaurant pop up with local Italian chefs' recommendations. Feeling a bit tourist trappy but their food was oh-so-delightful. We started with the bread basket and a bottle of Chianti. Appetizers - Maialino del Chianti - slow cooked pulled pork with olives and pickled vegetables. It's a cold dish but the meat was tender and flavorful. Trippa della Tradizione Romana - Roman tripe stew. This was so tender and succulent, definitely a little tripe scenty for those who don't eat innards. Pastas - Tagliatella - tagliatelle tossed with hare ragu, dried porcini mushrooms and saffron. My first bunny dish ever. Amatriciana - traditional Roman dish but with gnocchi. We booked dining in the basement which worked out as the restroom was also in the basement/wine cellar. Highly recommend to give them a try. Great service as well!

Amazingggggg!!!! Truffle heaven!!…read more No doubt that Italy is the place to be for food lovers, and to top it off if you are into truffles .. this is the place to be! The food was exceptionally delicious and service was superb. We got seated right away and the place is a cozy little place that we absolutely loved. We got Prosecco on the house as we got seated. The host told us the specials (truffle of course) and the menu was very simple and easy to understand. We got the cheese platter with truffle honey. We ordered some delicious wine to be paired with our truffle pasta and we ended up enjoying every last bit of our pasta when it arrived. Our hosts checked us upon us quite often if the food was ok and we needed to order anything more. I highly recommend this place to everyone who loves truffle and authentic Italian food!

He walked with me to pick out a wine to pair with my meal and really listens to understand what you like. The food was extremely affordable (maybe I'm just used to expensive Boston prices? ha!) and our total came out to about 80 euros for my boyfriend and I, which included: 2 glasses of wine each 2 appetizers (3 plates of food - a salumi sampler, buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes, and a mixed vegetable plate) 2 entrees (boyfriend got the truffle filet mignon and I got truffle taglione) - OMG order something with truffles. They have an entire basket full of them in the restaurant and will come and shave each by hand onto your meal. I've never had a meal that smelled SO good - tops the list for sure. We also got some complimentary limoncello shots and dessert, which was a fantastic touch. The place fills up if you arrive a bit later but well worth any wait and they even deserve a second visit on your vacation.

I had the rigatoni alla carbonara, and it was amazing. Unfortunately sitting inside was so uncomfortable due to the heat and lack of air conditioning (which they have , but don't have on) it made the meal very unenjoyable, so much so we couldn't even finish and both wanted to leave. The service was also the most unfriendly we experienced in all the places we went to both inside and outside of Rome. The food is really wonderful which is why I'm rating it good, but we left with mixed feelings.

The melanzana fritti carried a mint flavor that complimented the melanzana and its breadcrumb and pistachio coating and tomato sauce. The calamari were delicate and lightly battered, served in a paper cone with a squeeze of lemon. Our main dishes were rigatoni alla Matriciana, gnocchi alla coda vaccinara and tonnarelli a la gricia. These were delicious with qualifications that the guanciale pieces with the tonnarelli were judged too large (!), the gnocchi were assessed under-salted while the coda vaccinara sauce seemed a little thin, and my serving of rigatoni was enormous (no complaint there). Had a nice house wine of Cesanese grape that went well with the pasta dishes. A good friend convinced me to try Le Carré Français in Rome, and I'm so grateful they did. It felt like a two-for-one trip: all the charm of France without the hassle of travel. From the second I stepped inside, the authenticity was undeniable, with genuine French bread baked fresh in their in-house bakery and decor that whisked me away to a cozy bistro along the Seine. The scents of pastries, cheeses, and wines just screamed "vive la France!" The food was nothing short of sublime, every bite a true delight, from flaky croissants that practically melted on your tongue to entrees that felt like they were made with pure passion. I'm not even a big bread fan usually (pasta all the way for me), but those pastries? Irresistible, like butter on a hot crepe, with highlights like homemade macarons, crème brûlée, and fruit tarts that could hold their own against Paris's finest. The service matched the quality perfectly: attentive yet unobtrusive, turning the whole evening into something effortless and memorable. A big thanks to the staff for their genuine warmth--you made us feel right at home. The standout moment, though, was chatting with the owner himself. What a welcoming guy! Our talk flowed easily, covering French-Italian blends and life in Rome. If you're seeing this, kudos to you for building a spot that's about more than just meals; it's about real connections. If you're in Rome and need a break from gelato and gladiators, head to Le Carré Français on Via Vittoria Colonna, 30. It's an experience that'll leave you saying "ooh la la" for days. Five stars? This place earns a whole sky full!

Found it pretty hard to find any cuisine that might qualify in my book but this place seemed promising. Indeed it was the right spot! The personnel I encountered all spoke French and the menu had decidedly French dishes, including one of the best tests of good French cooking, boeuf bourguignon! The bread basket brought to the table was the first sign of real French style and proper goodness. The entree was delicious and the creamy mashed potatoes, while perhaps not considered traditional by many, were well made and I say bravo! The music astounded me because it was live and very good! Two older gentleman playing saxophone or trumpet and keyboard doing covers of Sinatra and the like. Made for great atmosphere. Was it the best French I've ever had? No, but it was a fine alternative to Italian if the desire comes your way, too.
