My son and I both loved our dishes. I had the spicy eggplant with shrimp added (suggested) and my son had one of their curry dishes with tofu. My dish had a generous amount of shrimp! Charm Thai has a warm, welcoming vibe the moment you walk in, and the space feels inviting. As for the food, it was kind of a mixed bag. The ginger salad really didn't have much flavor in the dressing, and the Chicken Panang Curry threw me off a little--the chicken felt inconsistent, almost like two different styles mixed together. The sauce had heat but was watery and bland. Now, the sushi? Totally different story--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. Don't understand why this place only has 39 reviews. Perhaps it's why I consider them a "hole in the wall" gem. I always tell myself I should try something else but I keep ordering my favorite, the Deep Fried Catfish with house sweet chili sauce on a bed of steam mixed vegetables. Oh my goodness... Yom Yom Yom Yom! Matthew got the fried rice which is pretty standard, but with their thai twist and it was also delicious. This is just an update to my original review a couple of years ago and they are still one of my top Thai places in Birmingham. They are a hidden gem. My husband, son and I visited Charm Thai last night. We got a table quickly which was great, however, it took a little while to get our food. I did understand because there was a big table who had just ordered ahead of us plus we were told some of the servers had called in sick. The food was great. I enjoyed the Pad King with shrimp. I really enjoy Thai food, especially the spicier side of things. I can't recall the number of times I've ordered a dish thai hot and the dish came out mild with a single pepper flake on top. Charm Thai gets it right with exceptional bold flavors. The woman who runs it is often the only one there so be patient. She's sweet and the food is worth the wait. read more

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all . I got Chicken pad Thai . Was originally Chicken and shrimp I omitted the shrimp . Well thought I'd get extra chicken but nope hardly any chicken was in this dish . Like 5 small pieces for a whole plate of pad Thai . Definitely not like Hoover Food Mart ( the best Thai in Hoover ) we got an appetizer of miso and chicken wings . Wings were not good or fresh just frozen chicken. The soup wasn't good either ( they didn't charge for the soup) . And the wait for our food was ridiculous. At least 30 min for our food . My husband had the Hibachi chicken and steak and he said it was really good . But we won't be back because I was not impressed. read more

The drunken noodle was very good. It had plenty of meat and vegetables. Most places don't put broccoli in their drunken noodle, but Charm Thai has it along with all the other typical ingredients. Big portion too. Highly recommend. read more

Stopped here while in town for the night. Saturday night and they weren't doing sushi which is half the menu. Ordered drunken noodles and it took them 45 minutes to bring it out. Everything was undercooked or burnt. The duck was ok but definitely overcooked and a little dry. read more

I loved this new Thai and Japanese restaurant in Hoover. Wife and I had lunch on Saturday. The small restaurants is elegantly quaint. It has been opened for only a couple of month, and was not crowded for lunch on Saturday. Our waiter told us Friday night was very busy. I ordered from the lunch menu. Lunch includes a bowl of soup, and today the soup was popular Thai coconut soup. The soup was good, but it was only luke warm. I ordered the Phad Kra Pow Ground Chicken with Fried Egg and I was quite impressed. It was very tasty, and my request of "medium" spice level was just right for me. The portion was huge and I brought home leftovers for later. Besides Thai dishes, the menu included a wide variety of Japanese hibachi entrees and sushi. The worker told us that they have not yet hired a sushi chef so it not yet available. Also, I believe they are still working on getting license to serve alcohol. I recommend this place and look forward to returning to try other Thai dishes. read more

I do feel like Birmingham could use another good Thai restaurant and this place honestly has a LOT of potential. We went for lunch and there are a good number of lunch specials with prices about on par with what you expect these days. The restaurant is cute and I really like their canvases on the walls and their pretty menu cover lol. Lunch specials come with a soup (different ones depending on the day of the week). While it could stand to be hotter (temperature-wise), it was tasty and had a good amount of stuff (tofu, mushroom, and tomatoes) in it instead of just broth like most Thai complimentary soups We ordered their masaman chicken and another dish that I can't think of the name. It took about 10 minutes or so for the food to come out, but the entrees were fresh. We were impressed with the portion size! Much better than the Taste of Thailand. Much. Again, they were not stingy on the ingredients. In fact, there were some stuff in my Masaman chicken that I wasn't really used to because there was so much variety in it! Chicken, potato, sweet potato, carrots, avocado, peanuts, etc. It was good overall though I would suggest cashew instead of peanuts for texture purposes. Also, more importantly, the sauce was just too thin. I would love the dish instead of just like the dish if the sauce was thicker. Should be an easy fix, I am hoping they read this and fix it lol. read more

Had to wait another 23 mins before they brought out the food. The Crunchy Roll was not prepared bc the sushi bar wasnt even set up. Tip was not deserved, and the "convenience fee" was not warranted. Clearly understaffed. That said, the food was excellent, portions large enough for 2-3 people. Nam Sod was much better than any other thai place I've tried. The seafood roll was very rich and filling, and the stir fry had a nice charcoal flavor. Pad Thai was very good, although the customary single shrimp did not come with it. My husband and I wanted some Thai food for lunch so since neither of us had tried it here, we gave it a shot! We started off with the dumplings and the Tom Kha soup. The dumplings were filled to the brim with their filling, and while a bit onion heavy for my taste, my husband really enjoyed them. The soup was warm and delicious-a slightly sweeter version of other popular chains coconut soup. I had orange chicken for my entree, which was hot and fresh! Lots of good carrots and broccoli too. The entire meal was delicious, the steak was tender and flavorable, the scallops were large and plentiful. The server was attentive, friendly, efficient and kind. Getting 3* because some of the food was great, but most me was NOT! It was edible but completely tasteless. No hibachi sauce flavor, salmon was good as far as cooking but again, lacking that amazing hibachi flavor. Fried rice was equal - tasteless, like they forgot the soy sauce and they definitely left out the yum yum sauce that comes with it, which could have saved the whole meal. If it had just been my meal, this would be 1 * but since we spent almost $90, some of the food was apparently good. Wish I had a better experience because I won't order from them again. read more

Came here for lunch. They have lots of lunch specials. I still got the dinner portion because leftovers. I orders the massaman curry with chicken. It came with coconut soup and rice. The coconut soup was very good. I really enjoyed the curry. Good sized pieces of chicken with chunks of veggies and avocado on top. It was delicious and even better leftover. This is a decent sized restaurant with a good amount of parking for lunchtime. I assume dinner time is OK too for parking. Prices are a little high in my opinion but everything is high right now. Our coconut milk soup and my green curry chicken was absolutely delicious. My husband got one of their main lunch dishes of ground chicken with green beans with rice. This is a newer Thai place on Lorna Road. The spicy fried rice is really good and the drunken noodles are good. The drunken noodles have a lot of big vegetables in it and that was different from what I'm used to. This place is a little pricey but you do get a good amount of food. read more

Came in for lunch on a Monday. Charming place. I ordered Chicken Mussamun Curry lunch special. It came with Tofu Coconut soup that was delicious. The entree came out in about 10 minutes later. It had great flavors, was hot and fresh. I wish the veggies had been sliced a bit smaller along with the chicken tenderloin. Spice level wasn't too much for this dish. Service was good. Went here for lunch again today and it was just as amazing. We tried and ground chicken dish from the lunch special and it was so flavorful and spicy but then again I asked for Thai hot. It was perfect for me. We also tied green curry and it did not disappoint. All the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Rest balance of flavors and spices. Last but not the least drunken noddles. This dish is a must we tried it with shrimp. We also had the shrimp Tom yum soup. I tell you this soup can cure anything from flu to a hangover.
