Don't understand why this place only has 39 reviews. Perhaps it's why I consider them a "hole in the wall" gem. I always tell myself I should try something else but I keep ordering my favorite, the Deep Fried Catfish with house sweet chili sauce on a bed of steam mixed vegetables. Oh my goodness... Yom Yom Yom Yom! Matthew got the fried rice which is pretty standard, but with their thai twist and it was also delicious. This is just an update to my original review a couple of years ago and they are still one of my top Thai places in Birmingham. They are a hidden gem. Service can be a little slow when they are slammed, but food-wise, they will not disappoint.

My husband, son and I visited Charm Thai last night. We got a table quickly which was great, however, it took a little while to get our food. I did understand because there was a big table who had just ordered ahead of us plus we were told some of the servers had called in sick. The food was great. I enjoyed the Pad King with shrimp. It came with a salad and rice, and the ginger sauce was so good. The ambiance with soft music and low light made it nice and relaxing.

I was not impressed with this restaurant at all . I got Chicken pad Thai . Was originally Chicken and shrimp I omitted the shrimp . Well thought I'd get extra chicken but nope hardly any chicken was in this dish . Like 5 small pieces for a whole plate of pad Thai . Definitely not like Hoover Food Mart ( the best Thai in Hoover ) we got an appetizer of miso and chicken wings . Wings were not good or fresh just frozen chicken. The soup wasn't good either ( they didn't charge for the soup) . And the wait for our food was ridiculous. At least 30 min for our food . My husband had the Hibachi chicken and steak and he said it was really good . But we won't be back because I was not impressed.

    Drunken Noodle

The drunken noodle was very good. It had plenty of meat and vegetables. Most places don't put broccoli in their drunken noodle, but Charm Thai has it along with all the other typical ingredients. Big portion too. Highly recommend.

Good service. Delicious Thai food. Presented in an appetizing way. Easy to get to. What else can you ask for?

I loved this new Thai and Japanese restaurant in Hoover. Wife and I had lunch on Saturday. The small restaurants is elegantly quaint. It has been opened for only a couple of month, and was not crowded for lunch on Saturday. Our waiter told us Friday night was very busy. I ordered from the lunch menu. Lunch includes a bowl of soup, and today the soup was popular Thai coconut soup. The soup was good, but it was only luke warm. I ordered the Phad Kra Pow Ground Chicken with Fried Egg and I was quite impressed. It was very tasty, and my request of "medium" spice level was just right for me. The portion was huge and I brought home leftovers for later. Besides Thai dishes, the menu included a wide variety of Japanese hibachi entrees and sushi. The worker told us that they have not yet hired a sushi chef so it not yet available. Also, I believe they are still working on getting license to serve alcohol. I recommend this place and look forward to returning to try other Thai dishes.

I do feel like Birmingham could use another good Thai restaurant and this place honestly has a LOT of potential. We went for lunch and there are a good number of lunch specials with prices about on par with what you expect these days. The restaurant is cute and I really like their canvases on the walls and their pretty menu cover lol. Lunch specials come with a soup (different ones depending on the day of the week). While it could stand to be hotter (temperature-wise), it was tasty and had a good amount of stuff (tofu, mushroom, and tomatoes) in it instead of just broth like most Thai complimentary soups We ordered their masaman chicken and another dish that I can't think of the name. It took about 10 minutes or so for the food to come out, but the entrees were fresh. We were impressed with the portion size! Much better than the Taste of Thailand. Much. Again, they were not stingy on the ingredients. In fact, there were some stuff in my Masaman chicken that I wasn't really used to because there was so much variety in it! Chicken, potato, sweet potato, carrots, avocado, peanuts, etc. It was good overall though I would suggest cashew instead of peanuts for texture purposes. Also, more importantly, the sauce was just too thin. I would love the dish instead of just like the dish if the sauce was thicker. Should be an easy fix, I am hoping they read this and fix it lol.

Another excellent addition your list of Thai restaurants in Birmingham!…read more They've only been there for 6 years and I finally made it. Even though I didn't dine in, I appreciated the beautiful decor and the attention to detail. Gone from their early days during the pandemic when they were take out only to their newly renovated and larger dining area. There's nice bar with stools nearly centered in the restaurant. Employees are more friendly than you can imagine. Located on 280 near the Greystone entrance, YYST is on the right in a small quaint strip shopping area that's raised "above" 280. So if you're driving by you can see YYST by looking up. There's no outdoor seating, but plenty of tables and chairs inside with seating at the bar. They are quite proud of their Yelpies 2025 award for "Beloved Birmingham Business" which sits at the front entrance. Their menu is comprehensive with the right amount of dishes to satisfy. Every "Thai" place seems to have their own take on most dishes and YYST is no different. Their "recommended" entrees include Mango fish, Pad Thai Chakangrao, Massamun Short Rib, Pad Thai Wings and Panang New York Strip. Then they also have "Signature Plates" whose menu descriptions had my mouth watering. There's also stir fry, curries, salads, and even a lunch menu. Since I wasn't dining, I was going to do my litmus test and try their version they call Beef Drunken Uncle noodle. I also ordered their Fresh Basil Shrimp Rolls, and Bangkok market fried rice. I waited at the bar for about 10 minutes when my packaged meals arrived. I was offered a glass of cool water as I waited at the bar. The rolls were wrapped in saran wrap and I would guess were probably made a couple of days ago. Nothing wrong with that except I got unlucky and rice paper wrapper was almost crunchy. They were a little heavy on the use of lettuce, but each had 4 large fresh shrimp. The taste wasn't anything spectacular BUT their version of the dipping peanut sauce saved it. Yom Yom Yom! The fried rice was delicious. Tossed in a wok with eggs, onions, chinese broccoli and their house sauce, I had beef added as the protein and it was delicious. My Drunken noodle was very good! This traditional street food inspired dish is a classic. Wide noodles tossed with snap beans, garlic, onions, bell peppers with thai chili and basil, their version is quite good! It had great flavor and an excellent representation of the drunken noodle. Next time I might have to pay extra for a fried egg on top. Yom Yom Yom Yom! I'm glad I finally visited YYST. I am looking forward to returning and this time dining in. The Panang New York Strip and Mango Fish have my name on them!

Great service, lovely decor, impressive playlist, delicious wings and refreshing drink. I like that they offer mocktails and serve in generous portion compared to many places. The Zaap wings are a must if you're a wing person. I am not a huge wing person. We got both dry and sauced to start--both yummy. I'm a big fan of Thai food so I've had really good Thai food and sub par. The crispy spring rolls were good but pretty standard like most restaurants or what you can buy in the frozen section. I ordered Drunken Uncle noodle with chicken but it wasn't even "tipsy" lol - not a ton of flavor nor moist enough to be drunken. Edible but Kinda pasty and lacking so the 3-3.5 rating factored in to my overall is mostly due to my noodles but the rest of the experience I am pleased. Maybe I just didn't order one of their best entrees. When my friend had her basil fried rice dish redone with no egg she loved it, and it looked good too. She got it with tofu. Before that something was off but the staff was very accommodating and kind. They wanted to make it right so she'd be pleased and she was. We took our moms out on Mother's Day weekend as a treat, and they seemed to enjoy their whole fried snapper which comes on a bed of lettuce with rice & sauces on the side. The three flavor fish comes with 3 sauces and there's also a mango fish. The location is convenient and I'd return to try another dish or one of their curries. They were running a unique set of menu items especially for Mother's Day weekend but it included food items none of us eat.
