While I lived in North County San Diego, I had nothing but good things to say about California Coast. But things have taken a 180 since I moved out of state and what happened today is the prime reason why. I called to find out whether a check had cleared. After a shortish wait, I spoke to an attendant who could not verify my number because it wasn't accepted by some Experian system they recently starting using to verify numbers. This despite the fact that I've had the same cell number for more than 20 years and have used the same phone to check my balance several times. So then I had to talk to a manager. Of course I want to get this number thing fixed so I don't have to go through a manager every time I want information about my account. The manager tells me there is no way to fix this issue. None. And that every time I call in the future I'll have to go through someone in management to retrieve the information I want. He said that there was no way it could be any other way. Period. I have the feeling that this is more about forcing people to use California Coast's online banking, which is much more susceptible to hacking, than any new telephone tracing system they have. What a pain in the butt.

After I found my vehicle a week later, the bank suddenly claimed their "internal percentages" had changed my rate would now be 4.5%. I felt cornered and went ahead with the loan. Nearly four years later, with my loan almost paid off, I moved and filed a change of address with USPS. My June payment was made, but I missed July's payment. By August 5th, SDCCU had frozen my checking account where my direct deposit funds were still coming in, but I couldn't access or transfer any money, even to pay the car note linked to the same account. I tried calling multiple times but was kept on hold endlessly. I assumed it was a system glitch. A few days later, I walked outside and my car was gone. After calling 911, I was told it had been repossessed with no notice, no calls, no warning. After four years of on-time payments, SDCCU repossessed my car over one missed month. When I went to the branch in shock, my account was still frozen. The branch manager only unfroze it after I paid over $600 in repossession fees, plus the missed payment. The bank has refused to provide a copy of default notices sent or itemized statement of fees. They cannot provide this because I was only one month behind. To make matters worse, the tow company damaged my vehicle so badly that it became undrivable. I had the dealership repair it and sent the invoice to SDCCU only to discover that SDCCU owns the same recovery company responsible for the damage. When I contacted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, SDCCU denied all responsibility. SDCCU is not a trustworthy institution. Their lack of transparency, unethical lending changes, and predatory repossession tactics show how little they value their customers even long-term members in good standing.

Before coming here, I went to five different banks and every single one of them gave me the same frustrating experience: vague answers, runaround, and zero honesty about what I actually needed to do. It felt like they were dismissing me without even giving me a chance to fix my situation. I had a debt issue that I had already resolved, but other institutions acted like it was the end of the road and offered no real solutions. Then I walked into North Island Credit Union and met Dulce and Elizabeth, and everything changed. They didn't just "help" me. They were direct, respectful, professional, and REAL with me. They explained exactly what the issue was, what paperwork or steps were needed, and how I could actually move forward. No judgment, no dodging questions, no corporate nonsense -- just two people who clearly care and actually know what they're doing. Because of them, I was able to correct the problem holding me back and successfully open my account. I'm genuinely grateful, and I can honestly say this experience has completely changed how I view financial institutions. If you're tired of being treated like a number, go to North Island and ask for Dulce Dominguez or Elizabeth Gutierrez. These two are the definition of what customer service and professionalism should be. Thank you both again, you made a bigger difference than you probably realize.

The teller at Bank of America told me that there would be no hold since its considered cash. Now I'm told that there's a 12 day hold on my "cash" cashiers check. I've called B of A several times, but the Customer Service is no help at all and one of them hung up on me. I've also been with Bank Of America for over 20 years. Now I have low threshold in my bank accounts and no help at all. I can't even remove my cashiers check from them because they're putting a hold on it. It's supposed to be CASH-cashiers check for the benefit of cash, Yet they're putting a hold on it 12 days on a "cashiers check." And it's straight from Mission Fed. Right next door. Bank Of America is "horrible". They're stealing my money. They know it's cash but for some reason they want to act like it's not. Also a cashier's check is for the benefit of not caring a wad of money, which is not safe. That's why I got a cashiers check. So that it would go through the exact same day. They really screwed me over big-time. Why? Why???

I have never had an issue at a BofA branch except when I have to stop at this branch. If you can get a tellers attention (they are usually busy chatting to each other) they can't problem solve. I came in to pay my mother's credit card, which I do every month and they always give me a hard time even when I share a joint account with my mother. Every other branch I've ever used makes it seamless and easy to pay. Trust me I don't want to be paying her credit card, so please don't also make it super difficult for me to give the bank money!!! If you can avoid this location you're better off!
