Came in to cash a $25 check. Stood in line for the customer service. They have a policy for not cashing out checks that are not Navy Federal checks. It will take them 3 days to get me the money. My best recommendation is if you're gonna cash in checks, just do it at the ATM machine in front of the branch. They are not about the mission. I'm very disappointed in Navy Federal. It seems like they are very lazy these days to get you physical cash, they just want to do everything electronically. One of the main reasons I moved away from USAA was because Navy Federal used to give one-on-one customer service and delivered in getting you your money. Daniela was my representative, and Daniela set the tone -- rude, dismissive, and not interested in helping. I came in with a Navy Federal check and Daniela told me I had to open an account. That took about an hour. By the time Daniela finished the process, my phone had died and I was locked out of my vehicle. Out of about a dozen employees, including Daniela, nobody would help me charge my iPhone. Daniela claimed she "asked everyone" in seconds, came back with a flat no, and wouldn't even let me make a quick call for a tow. Daniela and the rest of the staff need serious customer service training. Basic courtesy shouldn't be too much to ask. read more

I was in the Navy many years ago, and had an NFCU account for probably 10-15 years until I closed my checking account. Fast forward to now, when I'm over 50 yrs old and am looking to buy a used car. I know credit unions offer the better rates on car loans, and with inflation and post-pandemic interest rates that are sky-high, I went back to NFCU. Turns out I still had my account there, just needed to reactivate it. I got a car loan at a decent rate, and even got a Platinum VISA there at a great rate. So far I have zero complaints. I am a loyal member of this Navy Federal Credit Union Branch for several years now. This location is very safe because their are several security cameras outside as well as inside the Credit Union. I always feel safe when I frequently visit this Navy Federal Credit Union. All of the bank tellers at the Navy Federal Credit Union are very nice, knowledgeable, and very personable. I have always received exceptional customer service there. On the positive side - I never have to write out a deposit or withdrawal form for my Checking or Savings Accounts the bank tellers do all the calculations for me and all of their customers. It has saved me a lot of time. Their CD - (Certificate Deposit) Term Percentage Rates are usually reasonable. Also their Checking and Savings Accounts gives me some earned interest every month and it helps me to save more money. This location has remodeled their inside front bank teller area. When I walk in the front door the bank tellers area is directly in the front just a few feet away from their Reception Area. It looks really good, convenient, and is very organized. Navy Federal Credit Union is not a very good bank. I withdrew my own funds from another credit union and deposited it into my Navy Federal Credit Union account in Hawthorn CA. The teller mentioned it would be a one business day hold. When the one day passed I called and was told funds would be released, Friday 10/25/24. When the funds weren't released I called again, I was told they would be released overnight and available Saturday, 10/26/24 morning, a whole seven days since deposit. We are talking about a cashier check, the most secure check a customer can present to a banking institution! This has caused me to not be able to payoff my bills so now I've had to incur more interest on these bills which cost me more money than I should have to pay. My displeasure with NF is, it's a cashier check. Most banking institutions would not take this long to release funds, and if they did have to hold the cashier check, most institutions release a portion of said funds, not NF. Given Navy Federal's history of dealing with people of color as it pertains to lending, I am left to believe they still have some biases. The excuse given to me is they are protecting me, me from what? I don't know! I don't understand how a banking institution would reject a cashier check drawn against that institution, and why does it take so long to verify a cashier's check? If Navy Federal can give me a reasonable explanation as to why, I might not pull my money out. I will also advise my family members serving in the Navy to consider banking with an institution that values them and not treat them differently than someone who presents a cashier's check in another neighborhood. I look forward to hearing from NF but if not, that's fine too. POC, they've shown me who they are so I'm going to govern my banking self accordingly. read more

Went on a weekday, not too busy here even for only having 3 tellers up. This NFCU was the one closest to me, had bad reviews but I didn't wanna make a longer drive. My experience was fine, so I thought I'd share. Everyone was really friendly, the facility was clean and spacious, well-taken care of, easy to get to and park, ATMs out front so you dont necessarily have to go in, and free wifi while you wait. Still skeptical bc of the bad reviews, but I realize they are mostly pretty old. I think the lady that helped me was Emily. I heard the end of the transaction ahead of me with her thanking and welcoming the customer to the neighborhood politely :) I saw the offices in the back were empty at the moment, no AM/GM walking the premises, but the tellers seemed capable by themselves anyway. I've had Navy Federal for 15 years and I can honestly say they have not ever helped me. If you've ever been a victim of credit fraud, or identity theft, and had student loans placed on your credit report you know how difficult it is to get them removed. You'd think they'd have to prove that they're yours, but its the exact opposite. You have to prove they're not yours. How do you prove something that you don't have? For this reason, since 2015, I can't get a loan for anything. If I can't get approved for anything, how am I supposed to build my credit? My record of 100% on time payments for my secured credit cards, cell phone, rent and everything else doesn't mean anything. They claim to help veterans. No, they help SOME veterans. 3.5 for overall visits throughout the years... This branch is always super busy - probably the busiest branch in North County. I avoid going into the establishment at all costs, and frequently utilize the online banking system or ATMs if at all possible. It's usually all aunties that work inside, which I think is pretty funny. I visited this branch on a Saturday to use the ATM. I was happy to see the upgrade to 3 ATMs, of which 2 where for Cash/Deposits and 1 for Cash Only. For a Sat, I was surprised that it wasn't as busy, but then again, it wasn't a payday weekend. Note: Avoid holidays and paydays. LONG lines. Parking and traffic entering and leaving the lot is horrendous. read more

I called to get my $35 back and was informed that my $35 has been reduced to zero due to account not being used. Why did they not contact me? My address and phone number has not changed. Navy Federal's cashier's check ordering program is redundant and misses it's advertised mark of getting you in and out of the bank quickly. Every month I get a cashier's check, I order it online hours ahead and I get a confirmation saying that it's ready to pick up.... except, when you arrive at the bank nothing is done. It really all depends on when you visit, but even if you do have to wait in-line for awhile, the staff here is always helpful & friendly. The outdoor ATM location is convenient & easy to use. The loan staff is very informative & ready to work with you, no matter your situation. As a company overall, my husband & I are immensely happy. We joined 3 years ago when he joined the Marine Corps & haven't once been disappointed. We have checking & savings accounts with them, as well as a credit card, & used motorcycle loan. I've only used the ATMs, but I think it's fair to share that they're always well maintained. There's never been an instance where I'm not able to deposit a check/cash or withdraw funds. The surrounding area, regardless of the time of day, doesn't feel threatening even if there's no protective cover. It's in a relatively residential part of town, so there is a bit of a drive (I wouldn't try to walk to this location, since it's rather hilly). I won't tell you when I'll return for obvious reasons, but definitely feel free to check this place out on your own time. I'm a huge fan of NFCU since signing up with them and I don't think I'd have any reason to switch to another credit union in the future. read more

No gripes whatsoever when I visited yesterday. I had them reset my debit pin because I forgot it like a jack@$$. I also withdrew some greenery and tested my new pin at the handy-dandy ATMs right outside of this fine establishment. My mother was looking to refinance her house and I suggested she go to this credit union since I am a member. We called Navy Federal on the phone and we could either do the application in person or on the phone. My mom felt more comfortable going down in person since she had all the documents on her loan with Chase Bank. We both now wish we called them through the telephone. OMG! First, we waited over 45 minutes waiting for a customer service representative to sign up the documents. The Financial Service Rep, Anita, who spoke w/ a horrible thick accent, kept calling the 1-800 # to ask how to fill out the application as we sat there. Warning bells were going off in my head and I asked her how long she's been working at the credit union. She said 15 years and was ready to retire in 2 years!!! Lady, you need to retire NOW. She could not answer ANY of the questions we had and she finally admitted she's not a loan officer and that everything is done from the NFCU in Florida. We were thankful to leave after another hour of her incompetence. Little did we know what waited for us around the corner...... NFCU was to call us in 48-72 hours... Crickets. We have been waiting for 4 days and on Sunday morning at 5am, I received an email about how "I" have not submitted documents for the loan process. WHAT?! I am not the borrower. I don't own a home. I called the 1-800 number and it turns out, Anita, had submitted "ME" as the person wanting a loan! WTH?!! How incompetent can this credit union be? They ran MY CREDIT REPORT. DID THEY NOT SEE I DON'T HAVE A HOME LOAN ON MY CREDIT REPORT??!! WHY AM I REFINANCING A MORTGAGE IF IT DOESN'T EXIST??!!! Also, why didn't the loan officer in Florida want more information, including my home owners insurance policy, if I don't own a house?!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! At that point, I went "Jackie Brown" ballistic on them. The customer service representative I spoke to said they sent me an email asking for more information on the loan I was requesting. I told her that I did not receive an email about the the "phantom mortgage" a few days ago and I checked my inbox, spam box, and NFCU online message center. I only received an email this morning at 5 am from the loan officer in Florida sending me an email that stated this was her "second request" for information. I also said that the loan officer should CALL the members and not send an email if they cannot get a hold of them or have questions, especially if they are refinancing a substantial amount of money. If a person is wanting to refinance their home from a different lender, would not a competing fiancial institution want that money?? That's pure laziness on their part. Folks, how many times are we solicited on the phone for people who WANT our business everyday? Exactly. I told NFCU that there are OTHER credit unions who'd want my mother's business and that if they want this loan to "chop chop" get going. I also put in a complaints against Anita and the current loan officer they assigned this application to because it's been a fiasco. To open up a second bank account took over an hour to the point I think they forgot about us and I had to talk to someone about how much longer our wait was! To deposit a check takes almost the same! There are not enough tellers or staff working during busy hours and the line goes out the door! I have already contacted corporate in regards to fixing this horrid issue. Growing up this and the old Well Fargo on College/Plaza were the only banks I knew of and the Wells had way more places to hide and have fun that NFCU. Ok lets fast forward 20 years. It got way busier, a little unsavory around the ATM late at night (2 good friends of mine were mugged there), but it's recently gotten better. I have a deposit only saving account with a manual withdrawal set on it. Not that service is slow, but it can get busy. I prefer NFCU's rates in general, but PMCU and other CU's overall. I kind of like having accounts at a variety of different banks (Chase, NFCU, PMCU, SDCU, and Wells). It helps me really get to know which has the best service since I have other to compare it to. A lot of people switch banks and so their new one is like a savior, but if your only reference is a bad experience at an old bank most anything could be better. Parking sucks and it's a little dated. Don't even think about coming near here around government pay day. Also they tend to be about half a day to a full day late on posting my direct deposits when I used this account for 1 of my jobs. read more

I'm going to review NFCU as a business, not solely this brick and mortar store right here. Very good rates, and very helpful people in customer service. The app for phones is a little lacking, USAA offers better interfaces on both the app and for internet banking. This place gets very busy at times, the wait can be a little longer than most banks,at no fault of the tellers though... people just usually go up to the window unprepared. It's a pretty convenient location right off of College Blvd. My main gripe with NFCU is that I couldn't stop getting an old roommates mail after he moved out and didn't update his address with NFCU. We were receiving letters for him daily. I wrote on a few letters, "Return to sender, Addressee no longer lives here" but apparently that means nothing. Then I called NFCU and told them that my old roommate, the addressee of all their damn mail, no longer lived here and the letters to him every day were getting annoying. The customer service rep said they would take care of it but it might take about a month to take effect, 2 months later, still getting the letters... Called again, got transferred to a different department where I explained the same thing. Again, sorry about the inconvenience we'll take care of this, you should no longer get letters after a month. Here I am a year after the roommate moved out, still receiving mail for him... Outstanding. I've given up on trying to stop it at this point. read more

(Massive Pipe Leak) I finally received my check from HOA that I've been waiting for almost 3 months. I went to the bank and they told me that the could only give me 2k, yes I was upset because I needed 15k and I need them to call the other bank to get that check cleared so that I can pay the contractors and get my home started. Well normally when I visit the branch it is either for a loan or to deposit a check or to get a cashiers check. During the week and early on Saturday the line is manageable and you can get service quick But if you wait too long it's pure chaos. My advice to navy fed is hire more tellers when you know it's going to be busy. And my other piece of advice is older and younger people this is the 21st century, please get online banking. read more
