Previously, for banking, I always went to Chase Bank in Woodbury Town Center, which is close to my house. At the end of last year, I went to Mitsuwa Market for grocery shopping and there was a Chase Bank in the mall, so I visited to this branch for the first time. A bank teller named Esther helped me with my banking, and she was very kind and handled it professionally. I was happy! So, from then on, I come to this branch to do banking, even though it is a bit far from my house. Besides Esther, the other tellers are all friendly. Highly recommended! read more

I have been going to this Chase branch throughout the years. They have a drive through and an atm that is accessible after hours, behind the doors if you swipe your Chase Debit/Credit card. I really appreciate this feature if I ever need to be at the atm late. It definitely feels safer than standing out in the open to get cash. Their hours have changed due to Covid-19, so I have been stopping by during my lunch hour if I need to deposit cash. On my last few visits, I have been running into Phillip N. Before I remembered his name, I remember his name tag saying he was saving up money for a Tesla. I made a joke about how he wouldn't be able to drive his Tesla anywhere these days... Terrible joke, because he had recently gotten that Tesla prior to the Covids... oops! Such a memorable conversation, how can I ever forget him now?? Anyways, I am so old school I always fill out the deposit slips when I deposit money. I remember my account # so it's quick to fill out. Phillip said I no longer need to fill out one of those slips if I have my debit card + pin to save me time in the future. Good tip!! On my subsequent visit to deposit more money, I actually stumbled upon him again. He is super professional, helpful and efficient!! This 5-start review reflects the service and dedication of one employee, Phillip Nguyen, at the Culver and Walnut branch. Phil is a banker and teller who helped me with an account that had been peremptorily closed due to the ineptitude or carelessness of his coworker Ms Lee. It doesn't matter which negative trait from Ms Lee it was because the end result is the same. I would give her first name but you wouldn't find her by it because she gives you a fake Americanized name when you meet her and she unprofessionally walks around wearing a face mask when no one else in the bank does. But you don't want to meet her because she will only begrudgingly do just enough of the work she must in order to open your account and leave you flapping in the wind until you have to come back a few weeks later because she half-assed her job. She will fail to tell you anything you don't specifically ask so you don't want to have any dealings with her. Ask for Phil, he will very helpfully and cheerfully do everything he can to help you and give you any/all additional information about everything you didn't know you needed to know. If I had written this review before meeting Phil, it would be 1-star rating due to my very unsatisfying dealings with Ms Lee. I notice this branch has a multitude of 1-star and 5-star reviews, leading to a very mediocre 3-star overall rating. This result is the failure of the manager to weed out awful employees like Ms Lee. I visted chase bank to explore my options for a credit card because my friend sent me a referral link to open a new credit card in case I was interested. I was assigned to this banker named Angela Yu who told me that I can't use the referral code at the bank. So I told her I'll open it on my own at home but she insisted to show me the benefits of the credit card. She then took my ID, went over the benefits, after which I told her I'd think about it and open it using the referral code once I make a decision later at home. A couple hours later, however, I found out on my chase account that there was a new credit card opened WITHOUT my permission. I clearly told her I would go home and open it on my own if I decided to go ahead but she straight out ignored it and opened it against my will. I did not sign any form of consent/form, nor did I give her any verbal consent. I called her back right away to clarify and she completely changed her demeanor , asserting that I wanted to open the credit card. But if that was the case, how can she not even provide me ANY information regarding when and how I will get the credit card? Her manager closed the account for me but this will likely affect my credit which I am very upset about. This is clearly a fraud and I hope no other people will be affected by such scam. read more

This review is for RICHARD HONG, as he is the very reason i still have my business today. To be completely honest with you, I'm not sure why I walked into this branch a year ago. As a small business owner in their first year of business, I wasn't sure of anything I did, until i met Richard. During our first meeting, he listened. He didn't try to sign me up for a program or a credit card, he wasn't selling to me. It immediately became apparent to me that this person was put into my life for a reason. He understood the struggles i was going through, the things that kept me from sleeping at night, and he provided me with tools and resources i needed to be successful. He told me the pros and cons to each route i could take, not only in terms of banking, but so much more. He didn't give up on me or loose interest during the bumpy times when i had a zero balance, instead he called me and followed up with me on a consistent basis. Im not sure how many people walk in a bank or call a bank and get to interact with one person who knows their entire journey. I for one was used to being passed from one department to another. Richard broke through the stereotypical notion of "you sit down with someone to open an account, and off you go". He is professional, genuine, kind, strategic, and extremely intelligent. I have an enormous level of respect and admiration for this man, and truly consider him a mentor. The reason I'm writing this review is so he will see it. I came on here because I just had the best and worst experience of my life at a bank right now. The best part was meeting this banks employee Lan. Lan was the most sincerely kind and helpful person I've ever encountered at a bank. They greeted us the moment we stepped in, asked how we were , helped us get our cashiers check, and made small talk to get to know us. When I got to my car I made the silly mistake of writing on the back of the check before realizing that it said you can't write there. So that's when the worst experience came into play. I walked back into the bank and went to my new friend Lan for help. I apologized and said I made this mistake to see if they could just make me a new check. Lan warmly said sure they would help me! They went to their manager and we're immediately berated right in front of us. The manager seemed to tell Lan to calm down or something like that and then literally went off on them right in front of us about how you shouldn't write on the back of the check! We were so shocked because poor Lan took all the heat when it was US who wrote there not them!! Then the manager went on to rudely dismiss Lan and come to lecture us on how there should be no writing there. I'm like okay great thanks for making me feel worse about my mistake can I just get a new one?? Then the manager just walked away and we were sent to another person to be helped to get our new check. I normally don't write much on Yelp unless I have a really amazing or really terrible experience. If the manager reads this I just want to say that you have a wonderful and talented young employee in Lan and that the problem isn't anyone there but you. I believe teaching should be a loving process not a discipline, especially in the work place. Lan followed all the expectations you had of them in terms of customer service and did not deserve to be treated that way at all, especially in front of customers. Please revisit the way you handle your employees when a mistake is made and realize you have amazing people working for you that also deserve your respect. Thank you for your time. Not a fan of personal bankers grabbing me on my way to the teller in order to handle a quick deposit and turning it into a 10 or 15 or even 20 minute ordeal. I tell them upfront, I don't want any other products and services and they say "I can handle that," and I'm left wondering why the teller who has everything at their disposal can't just do it. The last personal banker (Mikey) told me my savings that I signed up for online (which I actually signed up for in person) now held a $15k minimum and that If I didn't transfer some money around from my two checking accounts, or allow him to "convert it," I might have to pay a monthly fee... and that "he'd fix it for me." Seemed fishy. This AGAIN is after I told him I didn't want any other products or services. Of course, then we played "pass along" with a teller (whom I could have walked up to because the bank was empty), and waited while they deposited and ran the money, my ID, and my card back and forth. Not a fan. Find a new way to engage customers instead of having your pseudo-personal bankers in Alfani suits try and scam me on my short lunch breaks when I just want to make a simple deposit. See previous beef, where I left the last Chase 3 stars (they started at 5). Makes me want to take my money and mortgage elsewhere. If your manager is behind this idea, he or she is an clown and should be fired -- not the way you treat your patrons who invest their lives with you... especially after they ask you to spare them. read more

The people here at this branch are actually very friendly and helpful. Too bad the rest of the company sucks. My biggest beef with this joke of a bank is that although my mortgage payment is due on the 1st and is past due on the 15th, they insist on calling me 3 or 4 times a day starting around the 5th asking me why my payment is late. Huh? Don't I have until the 15th, but somehow they must think I'm stupid and they lie to me telling me that I'm past due and the guy is arguing with me like I'm on the run. Ordinarliy I pay around the 10th, but since you guys insist on calling me 10 days before I'm past due, I'll pay on the 15th, thank you very much and I've blocked the 3 or 4 phone numbers you use to harass me. This review is solely for the rude employee that deliberately pulled the door closed as I was walking in right behind her. It's 8:30 in the morning, and I stop in on my way to work to use the ATM. There are two other cars parked there in the first regular two spaces closest to the front door. She is parked in the second space, and I pull into the third. We exited our vehicles at the same time and I was three steps right behind her. She hurriedly opens the door, jumps in, and while I am standing there, deliberately pulls the door closed on me. All she had to do was say, "I'm sorry, it's company policy, I cannot let you in; you will have to use your own card." Fine, not a problem, I understand. So I use my own card to unlock the door she so eagerly closed on me, and as she was walking in to the interior lobby door that she had just opened and quickly locked behind her, she looked at me like I was bothering her. Really???? I hope the managers at this branch is very proud to have such a wonderful representation of your business! Everyone else is nice, but I think I like the branch on Walnut and Jeffrey much better. Someone with this type of attitude definitely would not be working there! And as for the vehicles already parked there.... I was the only patron in their lobby. That likely means that another employee was already in the bank. Hmmm.... I always thought employees were supposed to park further away and reserve those spaces for their customers. Oh well, I guess I should know better.... After all, the manager with the beloved fancy white sports car (see convenient picture of vehicle above) parked in the first space all the time. I think that picture was taken when they used to have two handicapped stalls -- they're down to one handicapped stall now. I suppose it's so they can park closer to the door. It's not unusual to arrive way before they open to find that branch employees' cars are already parked there, . I guess that means that they don't want customers! You know, it would be really funny if the gym employees parked their vehicles in the closest spaces! Heaven forbid their customers have to walk to the gym to work out!! read more

This Chase location took the place of the Hollywood Video store next to the Elephant Bar, so its strange to see it as a bank now. I've only been here once but had a great experience. Went to cash some checks and find out what happened with one of my old WaMu accounts when they switched over. The teller Moe was super nice and helpful. When he couldn't help me further, I was referred to a banker, Troy, who was also very friendly and helpful and found out exactly what happened with my account. Even while Troy and I were investigating the problem, Moe came by to make sure that I was being helped. I even received a welcome/thank you letter 2 days later from Troy. Great service is not that hard to provide, but too few places do it, so I am very, very glad I was treated so well here. I would have given 5 stars, but this is only after one trip, so I will update after a few more visits. I normally don't rate a bank service a one star, because the ways they can annoy customers are very limited. But today I had a one star service. I went to the branch to deposit some cash around 1:30p. The bank was almost empty so not much wait. The girl greeted me and I explained to her what I needed. She started to count my cash using the counter machine in front me. When she finished one batch, she put the cash in the draw. I was like, hello, how do I keep track on how much cash you have just counted. She ran through all the cash quickly and keep putting cash in the draw which is out of my sight. At the end, she told me a number. I said "I am not sure the number is correct, can you run it again." She said no problem, and take all the cash out of the draw and counting again. Now at this moment, I was wondering if she left some cash in the drawer, or take out too much cash out of the drawer. No way to find out. After the second count, the difference was over $100 from the first count. I looked at her and expecting that she will automatically suggest a third count. But no, she looked at me and said this was the amount. I expressed my concern and ask her if she can verify again, but my request got rejected. Ok, instead of making a scene while people are waiting, I got the receipt and left. But I will never come to this branch again, because they don't follow the standard Chase procedures. I wonder if they check their balances daily; a good question to ask if I am the branch manager. read more

Just happened to be in the area and needed to go inside to handle some boring bank business as usual -___- . For some reason in Irvine, a Chase bank is EVERYWHERE!!! The teller we had was super cool, she was friendly and expressed her love for tattoos as did I :D. The supervisor was called into my situation, and no lie at first he looks like a real douchebag! Waited for 15 min to be greeted by an Asian teller who's name I believe is Frank. He was very unhelpful when I told him I needed help because someone was attempting to steal my identity, he simply asked "what do you want me to do?..." And I said "well maybe close my accounts." And he said "oh yeah I can close your accounts I guess. You should probably file a police report too." When I went to the police they told me my teller should have given me a printout of information as is policy during identity fraud. Very unprofessional. read more

Made an ATM deposit at this local Chase branch on Nov. 15, 2010 of my largest monthly commission check from Aetna and 2 smaller checks. ATM ate my deposit, citing a technical failure. The branch insisted I leave and file (phone in) a claim with their claim/dispute dept. Seven days later when I called to see why the claim was still open, the rep DISCONNECTED my call after communicating that the claims/dispute department would no longer accept future calls from me! Very scary. Be forewarned. When I called this Irvine branch for help, the manager refused to do anything, citing branches have "no control over their claims/dispute department's decisions or actions." I have been a CHASE customer for over 10 years. Will be looking for another bank after the way they treated me (when this was their equipment malfunction that caused the problem). read more
