Ms. King, the branch manager, was very courteous and friendly. She also explained acoount features and fees to me patiently. Most importantly, Bankwell doesn't nickel-and-dimed customers to death. So far, I'm also impressed with the quality of the online and mobile banking tools and they're easy to navigate around. Furthermore, the phone bank customer supports were very help and nice. I have been traveling abroad, and made sure to notify People's where I would be going and when, so that I would be able to withdraw money easily. My inability to access funds has created several dangerous situations. As a young woman traveling abroad I cannot emphasize enough how unsafe it is to not be able to pay for basic things, like taxis, despite having more than sufficient funds in your account. Words cannot express how disappointed I am with this bank, and People's complete inability to function competently as a "bank" has ruined my travels. After several decades of business banking - and at several banks - the First Bank of Greenwich has, again and again, gone out of their way to help in all ways big and small, that I've not seen elsewhere. In an era where decent customer service is constantly diminishing, this bank brings a refreshing and helpful level of focus and attention that's unfortunately hard to find elsewhere. The loan officer there, who was leaving to work at The First Bank of Greenwich, convinced me to apply with them instead. He promised to personally introduce me to the bank manager and a VP, which he did. At The First Bank of Greenwich, the VP required me to deposit $100K into an account in order to receive a $100K "secured" loan. Both the VP and the manager assured me that, within two weeks, this would be converted into a standard loan. That turned out to be a complete lie. Instead, they held onto my $100K for two months, during which I had no access to it, and ultimately informed me that they would not be approving any loan. When I decided to walk away and asked for my money back (I returned their $100K check, which I had never deposited elsewhere), they had the audacity to charge me $500 just to withdraw my own funds. In other words: they took $100K of my money, used it for two months, refused me the loan they promised, and then charged me $500 on the way out. I do not trust this bank and will never do business with them again.
