The backstory is that we originally were working with a different mortgage officer for a different company, but she warned that we weren't going to be able to make the closing date. That freaked us out, and our realtor recommended we switch to Dave. I'm so glad she did, because Dave really stepped in and got things done, as soon as possible. It's like he had a fire lit under his butt and needed to move move move. We really appreciated that. He pushed us to get things turned around quickly, and he pushed everyone else involved in our transaction (especially the escrow company, which was having issues). On his own initiative he contacted the relevant parties (e.g., the escrow company, our financial advisor, our insurance agent) when things were unclear or when they needed to be pushed. And we were able to make our closing date with days to spare, with a solid mortgage at a very competitive interest rate. Dave took the time to explain the complexities and walk us through things, while also pushing things along and sending us reminders when we were forgetful. One thing I especially appreciated is that he acted as our advocate and gave us advice, rather than being tight-lipped and trying to cover his own butt. He also helped us explore our options to save money, such as presenting ways to qualify for an interest rate cut and the ability to lock our interest rate (as well as good timing for the lock). Come time to shop for home insurance, we knew the monthly cost to shoot for to keep our monthly payment where we wanted it. Around our closing disclosures, he let us know what to expect, so there weren't scary, deal-breaking surprises numbers-wise, and he explained changes we spotted. At every turn, I felt like I knew what was going on and like I wasn't alone. His team kept us on track through all the major milestones and got us to our closing date on time. There was even a moment when the listing agent mistakenly requested a later closing date. Extending our interest rate lock would've incurred a daily fee, but that was our best financial option. To help us through the change, Max offered to absorb the fee. Max made the lending process warm and approachable. He instilled confidence, both in him and in our own decision-making abilities.
