Today I called to inquire to see if a graphic novel was in stock. The guy on the phone told me he didn't have "old stuff like that" ...when I'd purchased something like it from his store mere weeks ago. He told me to "come in and look for it" and we hung up. He'd been very brusque, and I hadn't felt good about the interaction, so I tried calling a few minutes later to say that I didn't feel valued as a customer, but I didn't get to complete my sentence. He told me he didn't have time for me and that "they were a busy comic shop on a Wednesday." Cool. I called Radar Toys and Nostalgia Collectibles and asked them for the same graphic novel. The first politely asked me to hold while they looked through their computer inventory, then apologized that they didn't have it. The second recognized the book and also apologized that he didn't have it. Y'know. Basic customer service stuff. A customer calls because they're hoping to make a purchase. If that's frustrated or met with indigence and condescension, why would they patronize your store? I don't like posting negative reviews, but I still feel gross about the interaction. I don't plan on returning to the store again anytime soon because of it. the other stores I mentioned have better prices, are closer to me, and have much better service.

They've got craft items, old books, VHS tapes, clothes, and much more. I recently bought an Oregon Duck print pillow, that's handmade by the seller. I always enjoy it. The employees are always nice. Nothing special, and a little slow because they have to write down the seller ID so they can credit the right person because of so many vendor booths. But they've all worked there forever, so you see familiar faces. Prices aren't bad, if you know what you're buying. It's mostly handmade items, so you may pay a higher price because of that. I try to compare it to booths at the Scandinavian festival to see which is the better deal for certain things. It's a store I've gone to many times and will keep returning to, because I can buy craft items made by someone local. I love that aspect of it.

My husband was looking for a small local toy store to go buy a birthday gift for our baby nephew. So this is the store we picked. We'd planned to go to Target as a backup plan. I'd also fully expected we would go in here and find something and have to buy it on Amazon because it would be significantly cheaper. But that wasn't the case, and that made me so happy. Their prices are absolutely reasonable, even for things that are normally insane and overpriced. I was really impressed. The staff that are working clearly love their job and are incredibly helpful. They greeted us when we walked in, let us explore, and answered all of our questions, taking us to certain aisles and showed us things. We were definitely welcomed in the store. We ended up buying two toys for our nephew's first birthday, and I'm definitely coming back when Christmas comes closer. This is such an amazing small local business to support and everyone should take the time to stop by.

I wonder how many other businesses have remained in Eugene for that long--especially that have remained in a single family for so long (maybe Dot Dotson's?). On my recent visit home I dragged my mom here with the kiddo. The shelves were a bit bare, which was a little sad and I think probably a result of online shopping. But they had some games, modern board games, lots of train stuff, remote control toys, and so on. I bought a cute little stuffed bat for the little one because it was the one she showed interest in out of those I showed her, and it made her laugh when I moved it around and its wings flapped. Haha. I know that Eugene Elites did a volunteer event here which is so awesome. It's great that the shop partnered with them on it. Support local businesses!

A very lovely lady on the phone helped with my order. I chose 2 purple orchids for my sister in the hospital as she will be there awhile. The cost was very reasonable and delivery fee the usual amount. My sister sent me a picture of the orchids. They are spectacular!! My sister says the most lovely she has ever seen. They have a great gift wrap set up where you can get something in a box with ribbon or you can buy a very attractive gift bag and they will take care of packaging for you. I met with several florists a few months before our wedding to discuss what we needed. Since it was…read morea backyard wedding with no wedding party, we had a rather modest order. Shannon came highly recommended by one of my sisters-in-law, who used her for her wedding in 2009. I later learned from other relatives that the flowers at that wedding had wilted very early. Everyone chalked that up to the fact that more delicate flowers had been used, so I specifically discussed the hardiness of the flowers we were using, and was assured that my selections would be just fine. One month before my wedding, I had not heard from Shannon to schedule the follow-up appointment to finalize the order. I sent her an email asking when she would like to meet, and advised her I had some changes to make. Despite an email and a phone call (that went straight to voicemail), she did not get back to me for a week. We ended up exchanging emails to discuss the changes I wanted, and I thought everything was fine. She said only that she would deliver my flowers by 4 on the wedding day (pictures at 5, ceremony at 7), and that she would get back to me with that information. I wasn't terribly concerned when she didn't tell me an ETA for the wedding day, but I'd assumed that I would be present when the flowers were delivered. Imagine my surprise when I got to the ceremony site at noon and was told that the flowers had been delivered nearly three hours earlier. According to my mother-in-law, Shannon dropped them off and left very quickly with only oral instructions to refrigerate everything. My mother-in-law stored the flowers in an otherwise empty refrigerator. By the time I arrived, many of the flowers were beginning to wilt and turn brown. The centerpieces had white hydrangeas, white lisianthus, and freesia with pink lisianthus accent. The hydrangeas were turning brown and looked pretty wilted. The pink lisianthus was far more lavender than the pale pink I had wanted; a minor quibble but a quibble nonetheless. The roses in my bouquet were starting to turn brown at the tips of the petals - with seven hours to go until the ceremony. But the cake topper was the absolute worst part. In my initial e-mails I'd requested a floral cake topper and I had provided inspiration photos with what I liked. Shannon's quote was for cake flowers. Apparently there is a difference. Rather than constructing an actual cake topper that could simply be placed on the cake at the time of delivery, Shannon put eight wilting roses that were already starting to turn brown and lose their petals into a vase, stems and all, along with some freesia that was also losing its petals. Apparently someone else was supposed to put these flowers onto the cake. Fortunately, a friend's mother is a former florist and she came over to help me out and transform the roses into the cake flowers that I'd requested. She took one look at the cake flowers and declared them to be ugly and unsuitable. She graciously took over the project, and went out to Michaels and the grocery store to find suitable flowers and made an absolutely gorgeous cake topper that looked lovely on our cake. It cost her $30 - a mere $10 more than what Shannon charged me for a sparse and unsuitable arrangement. My mother and MIL did the best they could to cut off petals on the centerpieces to make them look presentable, but everyone who was there during the set up agreed that they looked unimpressive, including my husband. My bouquet was rough looking during the wedding, despite having been in water for most of the 10 hours it was at the house before the wedding. I turned it so that the worst of the flowers were facing me, but it was still disappointing. A mere three days after the wedding I was pulling out totally rotten and brown rosebuds that had never opened. A $125 bouquet of roses should not be in such poor shape after just three days. I've had bouquets from the supermarket last longer than that. To sum up this long review: I found the flowers disappointing in nearly every aspect. In the end, Shannon was gracious and professional enough to write off the unpaid balance of my charges, which I appreciated. However, in the end I was left feeling that my small wedding with a small budget was far less important than the five or six other weddings Shannon had orders for that day, and that lack of importance was reflected in the quality of the product delivered.

Shannon has an incredibly deep knowledge of flowers and a true gift for styling and putting them together. I found her very pleasant to work with, extremely helpful and had no problems at all getting in contact with her. I would highly recommend her to anyone getting married near Eugene.
