What the first things I do when I move to a new location is look for a barber/hair salon. The things I usually look for are convenience/location, ability to do walk in appointments, and decent cost. I of course want a quality hair cut but I can only know that after actually trying it out. Usually, I will only be able to check off maybe two of these criteria on my first try but it seems I got lucky. This place is great and has a low-key vibe. This location has three salon chairs and when I arrived around Saturday noon, they were two hairstylist available. Where are seven seats inside for the waiting area along with a bench outside. I waited about 20 to 30 minutes before I was seated and got my haircut started. Also, I prefer a place that takes walk-ins just because I am so used to having to schedule every little detail in my life that sometimes I just wanna be able to walk into a place without having an appointment. This gives me the convenience of just deciding on a whim when I want to get my hair cut. Yes, I know that there will be a little bit more of a wait if I do this but it makes things easier. They have a decent amount of street parking available. Luckily, I live a short walk away so I will never really need to use this which makes it all the more convenient for me. Just be aware that they do not take any credit or debit card. They take cash or Venmo as their payment options. I find the Venmo option the most convenient but I brought cash just in case since it was my first time there. Overall I definitely plan on coming back for future hair cuts! read more

While visiting Napa last week for some R and R, I decided I needed to tidy up my appearance. I found Chateau Barber Shop on Apple Maps and walked over; no appointment was needed. I was very happy with the resulting cut and beard trim, better even than my usual barber back home. The woman who cut my hair turned out to own the place. It's a real, old-fashioned community barbershop with two chairs. Highly recommended! What to know before going: There are only two chairs, and the two barbers stay busy, so you might have a short wait, but that's okay because of the friendly atmosphere. prices are very reasonable. I've been here a few times and I am impressed with the quality of the cut, and how fast my cut takes, once you're sitting in the chair. That being said, if you're looking for the cheapest place to get a cut, this isn't it. But you do get what you pay for here and that's why I keep going back. Because they're so good, you will likely experience a bit of a wait. There are no apps to let you know when it's your turn or take a number, so you need to prepare yourself to wait and bring something to keep yourself entertained. There's a nice sized parking lot adjacent to the building; for downtown Napa that's a huge plus! There is a liquor store on one side and a restaurant on the other. Today I finally decided to get a haircut after waiting a month. I usually get a cut every two weeks, but moving from San Diego, CA to the Bay Area there are some differences. San Diego is definitely much cheaper than most places here, but that's not the case with Chateau. They have a great price! $25 for a full cut. I've tried two other places in Vallejo and they charge $30 for clippers and $5 more for shears. Not only that, but the other two places in Vallejo that I tried didn't do a great job. The first place missed a spot on the back of my head and he cut my fade too high when I specifically said to keep it low. The second place was just awful. The guy pushed back my hair line (the reason why it took me a month to get a cut). I was hesitant at first to go with Chateau, but they have 5 stars with over 100 reviews. And so, I walk in and the staff was very friendly. When I saw that they take walk-ins only and no appointments it made me happy! They even offered me a drink as I was waiting. It didn't take long to get seated and cut. San (I believe that's her name) was the one to cut me. I told her that I wanted a comb over fade with a hard line and line up, but keep skin fade low. She followed my exact instructions and my haircut turned out GREAT! It didn't take her long to cut my hair unlike the other places I tried. She was easy to talk to and even offered to trim my eyebrows since they were kinda long. I WILL DEFINITELY BE COMING BACK TO CHATEAU. It's hard to find a barber, but I found THE PLACE! read more
