They had fireworks or sparklers going off which was very unique and unusual during dramatic moments. Waitstaff were well versed in their jobs and were great. Food was delicious, drinks were strong. Dance floor was spacious. Parking was plenty. I would definitely consider having a celebration here. Maybe my son's birthday or something like that. We visited the Chateau Del Mar while shopping for a wedding venue for my daughter's upcoming wedding. When walking out, we saw a white male in the golf grounds PURPOSELY throwing a golf ball at my daughter's SUV windshield. The ball broke the windshield, and the man loudly laughed and yelled, "Ooopps, sorry." As we were perplexed, looking at the windshield, we saw a white pickup truck leaving the parking lot with three white males on board. The driver, a white male in his late 30s, pulled down the window and yelled again, "Ooopps, that is bad, sorry," and laughed loudly again. I went inside the venue and looked for the General Manager, who identified himself as "Mike," but he refused to provide a last name. I explained the situation to him as we walked out, and in the most hostile manner, he asked, "What do you want me to do? I can't control what people do here." I asked him to please review his security cameras to track the license plate for the aggressors. His response was, "Do you see any cameras here?" and claimed there were no cameras, kept walking, and his last statement to me was, "Sorry, that is all I can say." I called the Hickory Hills Police to file a report, and while they arrived, I spotted two cameras facing the parking lot. When the police came, they spoke to "Mike" inside the venue. I was not present in their conversation, and when they came out, they said that "none of the cameras work." They asked if we knew which direction the white pickup left (an utterly nonsense question); we didn't since we were inside the parking lot. The police offered to check the traffic cameras but did not give any solid possibilities to follow up on anything. In conclusion, I find the management of Chateau del Mar to be RACIST, FRAUDULENT, UNETHICAL BUSINESS. We were the victims of an attack inside their premises, and they were unwilling to show any compassion or ethical behavior. They claimed that their security cameras don't work, and I find this to be a hazard to their customers and visitors. The result for us after visiting their premises turned out to be a traumatic experience and the unexpected cost of a new windshield. The place was decorated in a very elegant way. Even the bathroom looked regal with a sitting room. However, the bathrooms were located on the lower level. There is an elevator but it will easily be crowded during events. The food was great. The problem we had was the banquet halls were a thin wall apart so the music/ sounds of the two events happening simultaneously kept clashing and it was hard to appreciate the music. As a guest: The venue was beautiful. The actual reception hall was "magical". The track lighting, wrapped in chiffon, suspended from the ceiling, arranged around the chandeliers added a particularly elegant touch. There was another reception taking place but where we were supposed to go was clearly marked. I've been to other affairs and this was not the case. Everything was clean and decorated tastefully - not too gaudy. However, the restrooms were a bit out of the way. I'm not accustom to going in pairs, and I didn't but I was happy to see my niece come. If this venue were a castle then main floor could be compared to a great room with lots of flowers and glitz, (not cold and dank); conversely, the restrooms would be the dungeons, although, they were clean with multiple stalls - just a bit dim and therefore scary. Perhaps having better lighting and staffing it with a person to offer assistance/safety, may be an idea - if others have stated this issue. The servers were pleasant, but some seemed unenthused about being at work that evening. These were some of the younger crew who although did a fine job of serving the appetizers they just weren't smiling and had that hesitation in approaching tables - begrudgingly. The food was tasty and seasoned well, with ample portions to go around. However, I felt the awareness of the schedule for some of the servers because no sooner, in some cases had we been serve our soup - they were serving the salad and there was no place to put the salad except where the soup was sitting. So some of us were holding our soup in hand with our salad in front of us. I understand that some guest would talk away the night while servers, on the clock have lives other than serving meals.... I get it, they are working and we are "partying". Still, it was a tad rushed. We were served family style and while I appreciated the centerpiece being raised so we could see one another, the table was too small to accommodate the number of dishes. Timing was everything. We immediately started serving ourselves, so that we could eliminate a dish or two on the table. There was a self-serve fondue table, but the caquelon did not work properly. The chocolate was barely warm, however the pound cake was very good - dense and moist. The wedding cake was served with ice cream and I did find this presentation poor. Given the cake, (it was beautiful), which I know wasn't from the venue, serving it on a small dessert plate WITH a metal bowl with ice cream just brought the moment down. The metal bowl made it feel cafeteria style/industrial. I don't see that it would have been problematic to simply serve the ice cream directly on the cake or as they serve the cake ask if ice cream was desired - then serve the metal bowl - placing the two together was for form. The actual place/venue was really done well and presented exquisitely, however there were inconsistencies in the service that brought my rating down - although, I would give 3.5 stars rather than a set three. read more

My sister had her wedding here and it was so beautiful! I love every detail this venue has. The service during the reception was good. The outside was great for pictures. Food was good and very hot! 4 stars because they messed up the chairs. My sister asked for gold chairs and they gave her silver. Still looked very lovely but she was upset about that. I had my wedding here and was basically pleased with everything here. We held our reception in the Columbia room, which is the middle room with partially frosted windows that look into the Barcelona room- this was actually fine because you can really only see the draped lights from the ceiling. Here are my pros and cons of this place: PROS: - Very affordable - Food is pretty good overall (the baked chicken, spanokopita and meatball appetizers were favorites at my wedding!) - You can bring in some of your own liquor at no additional cost to add to the bar - Dance floor is nice and large - Room is nice with draped lighting on the ceiling - The staff is friendly and easy to work with overall - There is an over abundance of couches to sit and relax on - You have access to the golf course for photos if you'd like - spacious bathroom stalls that fit a big-ass wedding dress - even though there was another way larger wedding going on in the Barcelona room, the bathroom and hallways did not seem crowded CONS: - there is only one bridal room that you can rent for the night. I wasn't the lucky bride to get it. - I requested vegetarian meals for a few people and indicated it with a "V" on their card, but these people did not get their food. When I said something to the house manager they didn't seem to believe me and wanted to check my reservation rather than fix the issue - The children also didn't get their kids meals in a timely fashion - When we went for the food tasting, it seemed like we basically just got to try whatever food they were serving at the present wedding going on. We had to make some blind choices on other food items since we didn't taste much!! This was our biggest disappointment with the place. - There can be a bit of a language barrier some times - Due to the lower price, there is less frills So take it for what you will... for the price it was definitely still worth it. I've been here for 2 weddings and the venue is beautiful. The parking lot is huge and the venue itself is nice in all aspects. The high ceilings and marble walls give a really glamorous effect. Chateau is a beautiful venue. I had my reception here and was in the Columbia Room. The ceilings and chandeliers are grand. Spiral staircase to restrooms are really nice, there's elevator to accomadate those in wheelchair. Joyce, Osha, Venetia, all the banquet coordinaters, have been very helpful from the very beginning. Staff was friendly and dinner was served promptly. Received many compliments from my guests on how beautiful the venue is....and a few were not aware Chateau Del Mar even existed so thats why I'm writing review. So in searching for a wedding venue we decided to stop here because it was on the way to some place else. WHY did we do that. The lady who was there was rude. She claims she was the only one there so she couldn't leave the front desk. she then just told us to walk around and see what we want. Then when walking around I was not at all impressed. The best part of our self guided tour was when we went downstairs to take my daughter to the bathroom. On the way out I noticed they have a fountain with all sorts of dead things floating in it. This place will not make the list.... They are on the bottom of the no pile. read more

With the added stress of COVID-19, the owners of Chatue Del Mar have decided to add more to it. My original wedding date got canceled due to the coronovirus. I postponed the date. My second date got canceled. I postponed again. I was told my July wedding was going to happen for sure normally. I called all my vendors and guests and got everything set. After I was all set to go, I got called and was told I have extremely strict restrictions. Hoping the owners would understand, they completely disregarded the "act of god", and told me they will NOT refund me my money, e Please choose wisely before doing business here. I will be filing civil small claims lawsuit and a class action lawsuit... I wish I could give this place negative stars. I had my wedding here 10 years ago. But I still remember it and cringe. The staff was terrible, the planning people are a joke (hope they bought a computer by now). We had all kinds of wedding crashers from the other party. It was overall a very bad experience. Chateau Del Mar's Barcelona room is beautiful. We had our wedding there in August of this year, and our pictures look beautiful with all the windows in the background. Working with the staff at Chateau Del Mar was also a pleasure. They were accommodating, honest and easy to discuss any issues with. The owner was fair, too. Anytime we wanted to negotiate, he came back with a fair compromise. They really worked with us to help customize our wedding. The food was typical of a banquet hall. Do not get married here. They just go through the motions with your wedding. They were great years ago when my cousin had her wedding here. The only positive is that the hall is nice, that's it. Your room will hear the loud music from the other rooms, you'll have party crashers from other weddings on your dance floor, the waitress' will take forever to clean up all the dinner tables. The planning staff does the least amount of work to help you during the planning stages. The tasting was a joke along with the family style food served at dinner. Also, do not sign the contract that requires a minimum. read more

This was my first visit to the Chateau Del Mar. It was a company Christmas party for His job. We don't usually go but I'm very glad we did this year. The atmosphere was festive and welcoming. The decor was fitting for Christmas, many lights, poinsettias, and garland. The staff was pleasant and helpful, a few non-English speaking waitresses managed to get help interpreting requests and service was good. The food was family style and was decent. Not much for the non-meat-eater, I had bread, salad, mashed potatoes and vegetables. I didn't need to add salt so I consider that a pass but still not enough of a real meal to judge the food quality for myself. He said it was average, not spectacular but good enough to go back if we were having a function...average banquet hall food. Basically, the Chateau Del Mar earns 4 stars because it's clean with an attentive wait staff, decent food and appealing decor (hard not to be appealing at Christmas) and great acoustics for a proper DJ, which we had. What an awful experience. We went in to see about pricing for our wedding and the lady with blonde hair was so rude. No matter how beautiful the place is, I knew I would have gotten bad service here. She discriminated me by saying us people like long parties.? When she said to think about it, I said no thanks. She said rudely said oh is it over your budget, and I responded no the service is awful from you. And she snatched the packet from me. I recommend not even waiting your time in this place. read more

Don't go here! Everything was great until the day of the wedding. Some of our guests didn't have place settings and when they asked the woman in charge, she told them that they need to get paid first. We had paid for the reception and we ended up with and extra table of people that we would have settled up for when we got there but, we weren't there yet. It was rude to tell the guests our business. They handled it all wrong. The entire table of guests got up and left cause they didn't want to burden us on the day. When I got back from the honeymoon, I called to speak with the owner and he was a rude bastard. He had no respect for women and was completely derogatory. The place is amazingly beautiful, it's a shame the service and the dimeanor of the owners was so bad. read more

This place is gorgeous and elegant. I've been to two wedding here and I like the setup. The staff is friendly, helpful and ready to assist. The prices are very reasonable for what comes with the place. They do have a minimum attendance requirement so if you have less than 100 people, you will pay for 100. The packages are standard but provide the necessary elements. I would book this place for my wedding/reception. Ample parking, open later and easy to access. Right off the expressway so that works for guests driving in. Perfect location. read more

We had my brother's wedding over the Aug 9 weekend. We had the henna party and the wedding in the same banquet. We were mostly via communication with Joyce who was beyond professional and only wanted to make us happy. This banquet does charge for everything and i mean everything (ie security guard, bridal room, bathroom surcharge) This would have gotten 5 stars if the banquet was cooler, it was quite warm and warmer in the lower level where the bride was. I do appreciate everything Joyce did for us, she was outside monitoring the staff and waitstaff making sure everything was in order. I could not agree more with the previous review. Every time I think of my wedding reception I have a sinking feeling in my stomach. It was a disaster because of the way this place is managed. These people were so unprofessional and rude from the time you sign the contract to the day of your wedding. I ended up cutting my cake with a butter knife while the staff stood around and watched. I was told by one of my guests a staff member was also meticulously cleaning my envelope box. By the end of the night, my camera also mysteriously disappeared. I had my wedding in the Barcelona room at Chateau del Mar. It is, by far, the biggest room I've ever been to for a wedding. I had 270 guests and it neither felt crowded nor sparse. The chandeliers are beautiful, the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, and the food, although we had the basic wedding fare, was delicious the day of the event. The office ladies were wonderful to work with, always had a smile for my husband and I, and never seemed agitated at my many questions and requests. Always remember to ask for options or price adjustments, as they are very accommodating and want your event to be the way you've always dreamed of. The grounds outside of our reception room is the Hickory Hills golf course, and my pictures out there turned out gorgeous. We did have some party crashers, but in a venue with multiple party rooms, that may be unavoidable. I'd recommend this place to anyone, specifically the Barcelona room. read more

The location is beautiful. The manager is flexible and easy to work with. UNFORTUNATELY, their staff isn't as nice. We had my sister's wedding there and the staff was in the back most of the night. The venue coordinators couldn't have been nicer, the food was delicious, and the place looked beautiful. They even let us bring in our own craft beer (Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin') Honestly, the only thing that went wrong at all was that a few vegetarian/gluten free meals didn't get delivered to tables, but frankly, the whole day went so smoothly that that was negligible.
