I have now taken 3 classes at Chateau Sew, two with Laura, and one with Joelle. I was a complete novice at the start but they were patient and kind - helping me achieve my goals of making a quilt and a cat bed (aka a "Floor Poof). The fabric selection is out of this world cute. I love checking out their fat quarter bundles and imagining what my next project holds. I have been slowly but surely built up my stash. They still have a great selection of classes, lots of fun notions and patterns, and lots of lovely fabric for whatever you are sewing. Made the trip to Magazine street for this shop specifically, and both my sister and I had yardage to cut. The woman working there waited on others before us, rightly so.....but then would not acknowledge us at cutting table for 15 minutes....she started putting fabric away, doing anything but waiting on us. We spent 30 minutes in the store and we're poised to spend $90-100 between us, but left without anything 5 minutes before closing. Nice store with nice fabrics and patterns, poor poor customer service. read more

I went to a Yelp Event at Chateau Sew & Sew. The owner, Karen, taught us how to make cool ties for local chefs. So, I learned that a cool tie is a tie that contains a substances that cools when you wet it. Chefs use the ties to stay cool while working in hot kitchens. Anyway, the event was called Cool Ties for Cool Chefs. The ties were being given to the chefs for Chef Appreciation Week. Karen, who is the bomb by the way, did an awesome job teaching this old boy to sew. I had no experience whatsoever. I made a few cool ties. They turned out pretty nice, if I must say so myself. Chateau Sew & Sew is a unique business on Magazine Street. They sale fabric for those who are crafty at home. For those of us who are not so crafty (like me), they sale things like hooded towels for kids. They do embroidery. They also offer sewing classes. You may be wondering why a guy went to a sewing class....well, I'm vertically challenged. Don't laugh people. Short people need clothes too. I hoped to learn the basics for sewing so I could start altering my own pants. Karen did a wonderful job acclimating me to that scary sewing machine. I didn't even injure myself. Now, remember, this was a Yelp event to make some cool ties for our awesome chefs in NOLA. So, I can't say that I'm ready to alter my own pants. But, at least I can use the machine now. I plan to take Karen's basic alteration class in September. It only costs $55. That's super cheap. Have you had a pair of pants altered recently? It can cost $15-$30 and it usually takes 1-2 weeks to get your pants back. Ain't no body got time for that. read more

This store is cute as a button. While I could probably operate a forklift better than a sewing machine, I've found Chateau Sew & Sew to be the perfect spot to help me out in a stitch, I mean sitch. I've had a handful of items monogrammed there including my bridesmaids' shirts and a personal poem on a handkerchief for my father for my wedding (side note: he loved it and wants to frame it). They help you pick from a variety of colored threads and font, and the turnaround was quick though you can pay extra for rush items. I also loved all their kids' items. They have these cute animal hooded towels that I'm just waiting for one of my friends' babies to be big enough to enjoy. Hell...if I were a kid...I've also found great accessories for friends as well, some of which were made in-house! I might not be picking up a pattern anytime soon (though they also have classes), but I will definitely pop in here every now and then for my monogrammed needs or something creative and custom for a friend! read more

This is such a fabulous addition to this little area right off of Magazine St.! I'll admit that I'm not huge in the crafts or sewing departments, but this store has a friendly staff that will show you around and help you with whatever you need. If you are the sewing type they do sell a lot of different fabrics for your to turn into something amazing. I was most blown away by their embroidery. I got a beach bag embroidered with my name on it and it was lovely. It's the perfect thing to get me ready for the beach. They do embroidery on anything you like, so don't be shy about bringing something in for the staff to work on. They also offer sewing classes for kids, if you are looking to get them into a neat and useful hobby. read more

This place is awesome! I am totally a rookie when it comes to sewing but a coworker told me she'd teach me the basics. She recommended that I come to Chateau Sew & Sew to pick out some Halloween fabrics because I wanted to make some spooky bowties as my first project. From the moment I walked in, the woman who was working was so incredibly helpful! There are well over 100 fabrics in the store (including many holiday, Saints, LSU, and New Orleans themed ones). I had trouble picking only 2 because I wanted to buy at least a dozen! If you are in New Orleans and need some reasonably priced and unique fabrics, this is your spot. The person working also mentioned they have an online store on their website and an Etsy! I look forward to being a regular here. read more

We did a southern road trip and stopped in several local fabric stores along the way, Chateau Sew & Sew was by far the best and our favorite. Susan was friendly and beyond helpful (gave me great sewing tips!), I told her what I was looking for and she pulled several beautiful fabrics that looked wonderful together. Beautiful store with delightful fabrics. I was just taken aback by the customer service and the stinginess of the cut. I bought 2 half yard cuts and two entire yards; both of the half yard cuts were exactly 18"(or less) one of that yard cuts had a corner missing and so, I lost half an inch in that place. When the sales person was about to cut my other yard, I pointed out to her that the side was not even and if she were to cut it like that she would again shortchange me a quarter inch. After that she reluctantly adjusted it, but was clearly not pleased. I am not used to such stingy cuts. Every single time I have gone to a fabric store, there was at least a quarter inch more to allow for uneven earlier cuts. This is horrible customer service, especially for a new business that is trying to develop a growing customer base. Will order my fabric online from trusted stores from now on. read more
